Q:

Hey guys. I know this is probably a stupid question, but how do I use the thermal propulsion?

A:

On the map (mini or World), they look just like the burrows (arrows) in HoT maps. In-game, they look like….little rock triangles with lava inside?

When close to one, the Interact option will be ‘Hop Inside’, I believe.

You have to unlock the mastery for it. Then you just go a thermal tube on the map in Ember Bay and interact with it. It will launch you to wherever it is that it goes.

See pic. They come in pairs – the foreground is the entrance one, the background one is the landing point coming in from another area. Or possibly what Cedo says below. Regardless, this at least shows what they look like.

I believe when one enters the ‘entrance one’, one burrows underground to the other, and is shot from said other (exit) one. Check map to easily determine which direction the ‘tube’ will shoot your character.

A side question re the thermal tubes, once you have been launched out of the tube how do you enable your glider if you want to glide somewhere and not go to the end point of the tube.
Seems its possible to do this , but I cant find any info anywhere.

Whilst rising, if you hold spacebar it will open at the apex. Or just hit glide once you have ascended as high as it can launch you.

(I just tested to make sure and it works)

I just tap the space-bar until my Glider deploys. I never noticed it was at the apex, but it makes sense, as there is a short delay before the Glider will deploy.

Thanks all.
I tried the tapping spacebar idea, and it works sometimes, but more often nothing happens.
Ill try the holding spacebar idea.
Does anyone know what the sink rate of the glider is?

I can think of one tube where you just can’t – because you get stopped on a wall before the theoretical apex is achieved (the last tube on the circus waypoint tube chain).

Actions, not words.

You have to repeatedly tap the bar. I’m sure most find just holding the space-bar is sufficient. I just happen to be a ‘tapper’, lol.

And yes, that last stop on the Circus route will just land you in a pitch-black cave. But, a great place to glide from. =)

I started as a tapper, but I’m definitely more of a holder these days. Life has taught me holding gets you further than tapping…
