It’s season 1 all over again.

Hated season 1 for a reason, still hate this.
Give us a proper story and instanced content, not this fluff.

If you have a desire to change the world again, one can easily do that through living world without this piecemeal garbage.

I did not care for LS Season Two very much at all. The instances were do-once-never return. Season One was much more enjoyable, especially the release cadence. Having something to look forward to every other week was great!

Do keep up the great work, ArenaNet! =)

Season two also had a two week release cadence….and it’s odd that you say the repeatable instance content was do once and never again, when you actually get rewarded for doing it again on other characters. Something that was virtually impossible to do in season one unless you had inordinate amounts of free time or just found stuffing your pockets with junk items fun.

Well, of course, that’s my personal experience. Some like instances, others prefer the Open World approach. As for being ‘virtually impossible’ to replay and Season One events, I, personally, did Tower of Nightmare, Scarlet Invasions, Battle for LA, etc. many, many times. If others were only able to do it once in the time allotted (2 – 4 weeks), I send my condolences.

See you’re cherry picking the giant open world events and saying they were awesome. Sure they were good, what im referring to is largely the boring ramp up events, akin to what we have now. The go fetch lost goods shenanigans, escort the now homeless norn/char etc. This kind of ramp up to me is just flat out boring and loses its appeal after the first time done.

Again, personal preference. I look forward to doing these as Dailies, just as many enjoy many other events daily. Not sure how doing an event repeatedly is much different than doing an instance repeatedly, but….I suppose for some, it is. It must be the amount of players involved.

To each, their own.

Hmm, I do like the town crier idea. But would people really notice, if they were put in an inn of DR?

That sort of thing also gets annoying very quickly. Like that sylvari next to the merchant in silverwastes or that consortium guy from season 1.

They don’t actually have to be shouting about it.

If I remember correctly during Season 1 there was an NPC in each of the cities with a gold star over their head who you could speak to for a short in-character summary of what was included in the latest release, or at least where to go to start it. If you didn’t speak to them they were simply another person standing there.

I have to admit I mainly used the wiki and the achievements tab (there wasn’t a story tab for Season 1) to get that info. But the town crier was a nice options for those who wanted a bit more immersion or didn’t know where else to look.

Yes, they were Heralds. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Herald_%28NPC%29

Perhaps, they will return.

They removed the heralds concept though. Wasnt it because they werent serving the intended purpose, ie not being used by players? I liked the idea, but it was clear they werent as organic to the content as they wanted them to be.

I like them. Something to look forward to every other Tuesday, just like the olden days!

I suppose an in-game mail would be ok, but I like the sense of discovery and surprise that the item drop (that points us to LA) affords us.

Still, each to their own.

but it wasn’t a sense of discovery and surprise, there was a hint dropped in the release notes, but not everyone reads those. if they want to drop a hint, it should be in game too

so instead its more like a way to create a set of players that are ‘in the know’ and a set that are not.

The hint in the release notes was only enough to pay attention for something new, but not how to find it. That sounds about right to me.

I’m having fun with them. They are nice little bits of new content to have fun with. Also I think they work well as hints of things to come.

I also like it that they are “secret”. I like discovering things like this whether it be in game or on the net.

option 1 : get a hint of a quest which tantalizes and spikes your curiosity, through mouth of word, forums and general chat we realise something is afoot, you go explore and are rewarded with a little snipped of content.

Option 2, you get an email that tells you to jump onto quest rails at plocation x.

The former is much more interesting, and it a subtle difference, but its the different something dull witted that has seeped into the modern mmorpg design from WOW and co and something more traditional where the player engages rather than being fed a quest rail.

The only reason I object to the lack of information is that I’m pretty sure this is only going to be temporary content.

Which means if you don’t happen to fight bandits and branded or icebrood during that time (which is entirely possible, I almost certainly wouldn’t have gone to the right zones if I didn’t know about this because I’m mainly playing in the HoT maps), or if you don’t manage to figure out how to follow all of the steps quickly enough then it’s gone and you’ve lost your chance forever.

It’s possible I’m wrong about this and it is a permanent part of the game, but if it is just a teaser for Season 3 then it will presumably stop when the new season starts.

Edit: or if, as seems to be happening to me, you keep getting the same bounty over and over so you’re unable to progress the achievement for fighting all the different bosses.

I know about it because I read about it on the forum and Wiki. It’s caught my interest because I assume I have to do it right now or I lose my chance forever.

I’d actually rather be carrying on with the stuff I was working on before and leave this for sometime later, or as I normally do with world bosses and regular events wait until I happen to be in the area as the event is going on. But I don’t have that option.

exactly my point, it caught your interest. If you dont want to do it , there is something more intresting in the game that appeals more. If your worry is that it may dissapear, that’s a different thread (but unlikely based on recent design with LS right)

I for one really like them, and I like that they didn’t shove them in our face saying “look what we made!” Spreading the word with subtle update clues and word of mouth is much better, because it feels a lot more like we’re making discoveries, rather than just stepping up to one more theme park ride. The actual gameplay isn’t great yet, but this is a step in a very good direction. At the very least, this is something accessible to any player while still being pretty intriguing.

Good news: You don’t need the bounty to get credit for killing them. It just makes it harder to find them.

I was out by Fort Salma (repeating some Season 2 stuff for mastery points…), and I wandered over toward a gathering of players. Sure enough, supply box was there, so I waited. Got credit for the kill, just no bounty reward.

Many alts; handle it!
