Never claimed that I like it. Have posted the opposite in fact. If you dont like it you should say so. The company should know how their customers view their product. But, claiming to speak for thousands, or tens of thousands, of others makes your feedback seem suspect. Easily dismissed. Dont undermine yourself that way. Your feedback is too important for you to throw it away.

The heavy set I like (tho I dont play a heavy profession main), I was disappointed in the light set as I was hoping for a balance of the profession themes (or even a dark theme) rather than crystals which seems a bit elementalist bias. Medium for me personally missed the mark completely, as I was hoping for a nature balance and not a coat. But this is just my opinion, and does not reflect the views of anyone else.

Personally, I reserve my final judgement for seeing the armours with the full animations and dye variants in-game, but from the screenshots the heavy looks ok, the medium is another trench coat (oh boy), but I actually quite like the light. Im a fan of the crystal aesthetic though, so that helps.

First of all, speaking for the majority is ridiculous. You’e voicing your opinion here.
Second give them a chance in game. Don’t judge the armor too much on a single screenshot. Animations and effects are very important.
Third, i really like the heavy, like the light, medium is meh going off of first impressions.

It’s the same thing I notice on Tasty posts on Facebook. The recipe has, what, like 36k likes/loves/"wow"s, but as soon as you hit the comment section the top comment is some “super cultural person” who says the recipe isn’t authentic. “You call this spaghetti and meatballs? For those upset that the medium is another trenchcoat, let me ask you this: How much of an uproar would there have been if the Legendary Medium armor had come out looking good and NOT been a trenchcoat?

Relatively few people are going to get this armor. If they gave us a good non-TC medium and locked it behind massive raiding, non-raiders and even casual raiders would have had a meltdown.

Good-looking armor sets in Guild Wars 2 is a rarity.

I’m not sure if it is either Anet’s artists who can’t design armor (most of the sets are over-designed, with no coherent theme and filled with random spikes or blades), or if it is the graphic engine that is greatly restricting the artists.

Nonetheless, GW2 is out for, what, 4 years? That is more than enough time to set your expectations right. Ascended armor was thrashed by the community. HoT’s armors (except revenant’s) were thrashed by the community. The legendary armor is being thrashed by the community. And you know what? Future sets will get the same fate as well, for as long as Anet keeps repeating the same mistakes.

Legendary armour, just like legendary weapons, has identical stats to ascended.

You only need to make legendaries if you like the appearance, or if you’re switching stats so often it’s actually worth the extra cost to have just 1 set (which seems unlikely to me).

Otherwise you can make ascended and have exactly the same stats, or exotic and have slightly lower stats for much, much less effort.

logically the legendary armor should have the same stats as ascended. Even the ascended armor isnt much higher in stats than exotic overall. so you shouldnt have to worry about power creep (in this sense). Basing this completely on the fact that legendary weapons have the same stats as ascended weapons.

Well that is all true. Except in this case you don’t even need to get them for the stats.

Also, I made the ascended medium coat for my ranger entirely because I like how it looks. I didn’t want or need the stat boost, I just wanted the skin. I made ascended trousers for my engineer for the same reason. I don’t like how the full set looks, but those pieces combined with others I think look really good.

Personally I find that’s true of a lot of sets – I think most of the complete sets look silly or really don’t suit any of my characters. But there’s lots of individual pieces I really like and I can combine them to make looks I like.

It also depends on the character. What looks good on my human female ranger often looks absurd on my norn female engineer or my male charr thief, even though it’s the exact same armour piece, and what looks good on my engineer looks absurd on my ranger etc. Which is kind of annoying because it means if something new comes out I have to preview it on every character who can wear it to decide if I want to get it or not, but at least it means they all end up looking different.

* looks best on yourself. The game on any setting I think will always render your own armor better than anyone next to you
* whole point of this armor is that it’s dynamic. Thus making judgements based on one screenshot is outright silly. The only way to see if you like the armor or not is put it on, dye it, and enter into combat. Then look for the ‘wow’ feeling

P.S. I agree on the “trenchcoats” criticism for medium armor. No Ranger runs around like that, it hinders movement and looks silly.

First, you don’t speak for any majority. In fact, you don’t speak for anyone except yourself.

Second, your use of vitriolic, abusive terms to try and justify your subjective opinion is perhaps uglier then anything any developer has put out.

Third, you have zero clue about who likes anything, or just ‘settles’.

agreed with the OP, i’d love for them to make lots of simple armours, hell, give my norn warrior a loincloth and i’m good to go, conan style.

the fact that they spend 2 years making these sets is ridiculous,
and what do we end up with?
we end up with an over the top anime mech suit for heavy,
a trenchcoat indistinguishable from the others for medium
and light looking much like all of the other long dresses, just with huge obnoxious spikes stuck on it…

that is really 2 years of work? yep, that loincloth is looking mighty good right now.

and even then there is the fact that most of use won’t even be able to obtain these ugly monstrocities because they’re locked behind the raidwall.

tl;dr
don’t waste time making 3 over the top ugly sets that are only obtainable to raiders,
make plenty of simple armours, easily obtainable.

It doesn’t matter one bit that Legendary armors are not out yet. If only one pic shows a trench coat then it also makes the statement that Anet has shown no flexibility in styles ever since 2012. They also have been dead silent on the subject ever since, show me one thread on the subject with an Anet reply worth reading, I dare you. You can be a total and faithful fan if you like it’s your right but doing so doesn’t help.

Nothing will change the fact that generally speaking light armor = skirt pants combo
and medium armor = trench coats it’s been this way for close to 5 years and showing no signs of change.

If I were allowed to ask Anet 1 question without fans getting in the way, it would be this. Why was skimpy armor doable and ethically moral for GW 1 and suddenly not doable and unethical in GW 2?

I would be astonished if Anet replied to this question.

P.S: @ To the OP this thread title need a change to something more in line with the subject.

Ah lay off the OP, lol. Vitriol? Nah. Maybe a little salt if anything but it’s a pretty reasonable post expressing a strong opinion. Lots of people don’t even care for most of the legendary weapons, it isn’t a stretch to surmise that many are disappointed. There’s not as many of the ‘wooo! hype train!’ type posts you’d expect following this announcement. Probably due to the relative inaccessibility of this armour, if we consider what I expect will be massive costs in addition to the skill wall you need to bypass and beat a bunch of raids.

Statistically speaking, it is near impossible for ANET to create an armor style that caters to everybody. Fashion is the exact same irl. Designers can spend time developing a new style that is very high end that not everyone will like or get. Art is also similar.

Personally I like the heavy and the light and I’ll reserve final judgment of the medium based solely on the fact that an asura is wearing it. I’m not against the trench coat look and of all they have done this is near the top of my list aesthetically

Remember the bladed kitten armor and the I-smell-bad armors from HoT? The incoherent mess that was carapace armor and its obnoxious blue-tinted version? The clown set that we have gotten for ascended? Now we get Arah Shiny Edition and Spiky Overload sets for legendaries.

Outside of revenant’s set, how many years have passed since we’ve gotten a good armor set in Guild Wars 2?

Aetherblade was probably the last full set I was really, really excited about. I still use quite a few of the pieces on most of my characters.

Thing is, the distaste a lot of players have for outfits is that there’s no mixing things up. Even the best armour sets are kind of unimpressive if you use all of the pieces. But the right combination from three or four different sets can be amazing.

Instead, we’re getting trenchcoat nº233 and “Let’s add skulls and spikes everywhere” nº177. (Except they’re shiny now…)

Did you say shiny? Did the the Skitts have anything to do with these armors?
Sounds like a conspiracy to me.
