Q:

For awhile now I’ve been running my thief, trying out all the different weapons, stats and meta builds I can get my hands on. Remembering back in the day how I use to see thieves dominate 2 v 1 fights in WVW, sometimes even more. Which inspired me to try it for myself! Coming from warriors and guardians and necros, I knew it was going to be a challenge being as squishy as they are, but to be honest it was probably the hardest transition I’ve ever personally done. Messing around with all the possibilities running regular thief and daredevil in all its glory, I’ve noticed some obvious flaws that hopefully will get address and fixed or elaborated on.

1st. The staff as a melee weapon, let me start off by saying it’s lots of fun and awesome to see all the animations. The damage is good not great but here comes to my first flaw. In choosing staff you have to sacrifice any if all stealth or shadow steps or close the game moves. Why?? It’s a in your face weapon, why not just change out the crappy 3 or 4 skill for shadow step or a stealth move instead! And while I’m at it, why are there no passive stealth moves in the game unless you get below a certain health? Kind of really takes the specialness of the thief if he can only go stealth through utilities which just takes up space in the just in case category of moves.

2ndly, why not add passive stealthy for the thief? I mean every character has something special and unique about that character correct? Like the ranger has pets, the Mesmer has clones, the engineer has mines and traps, and the dragon hunter has op traps. Why would you take away the one thing besides the high dps that makes the thief special! Why not add if you complete a dodge roll on combat you gain stealth for 4 seconds or connecting all of a chain of attacks grants stealth for however many seconds. And while we are on the subject of stealth your idea of length of stealth is a laugh. Sure you can expand your stealth via a trait, by one second? Are you kidding me? That’s a joke right?! Blinding powder should be 6 to 10 second stealth considering the cool down and the shadow refugee shouldn’t be seen by enemy players either considering I’m already stealth on the first place! That doesn’t even make any sense lol!

3rd you should add movement speed options in the trait lines for if you daggers or pistols you gain plus 25 movement speed or something smilie to that. Considering all the recent updates to all the other classes I feel like other than the added Dodges you really went soft on the thief. The class it’s self has so much potential for more than a sneak one on one fighter, why the developers insist on limiting the theirs potential to basically being forced to use certain moves and skills and traits is beyond me, probably because the rest are all crap and need to be revamped into a more complex and intelligent flow. I mean it’s not really fair that other classes can go stealth considering that’s really the only thing that makes us special you know? So what do we get to combat all the extras you gave us?? An extra dodge?? Really? Come on gw2 you can do better than that, and I hope to see what you can really do!

A) You should come over to the thief forums for this
B) You should probably not make rework suggestions on the class just…just now.
If you think the staff has ‘not great’ damage, dust strike is ‘crappy’ and ‘passive’ or ‘longer’ stealth is a good idea, you have a lot to learn.

All of what you suggested is obsolete and would make the thief even more powerful than it already is!

Before you suggest anything take a step back and try to see everything from the bigger picture and employ a little bit of thinking.

The staff was never meant (nor is it in real life) to be a weapon for fast kill. In most cases knocking out your opponent involves a series of moves. It is not a sharp weapon, and usually it’s larger than a knife, thus not so agile (sacrificing manoeuvrability) as with a knife which is small, light and very sharp – this is all common sense! You don’t get to do things with a staff the same way you do with a knife. That is why you have different martial arts that involve handling of different weapon types, because you don’t handle a knife the same way you handle a staff, blunt, or sword.

Passive stealth? Are you completely out of your mind? Don’t you have enough stealth already? You seem to me like another one of those who just 1) don’t know when to have enough, 2) don’t know how to play the class.

Lastly, Thief is definitely NOT one of those classes that need manoeuvrability improved. They are very agile, move the fastest of all, move in the shadows, they are perfect in this regard. If you fail it’s your own doing, not the character’s. Learn to play it and you won’t be seen complaining on the forums.

A reasonable player would actually suggest nerfing to the thief because they would see it’s already far too strong. A strong player wants challenge, not more power than they already have. It’s achieving more with less.

What is up with all the “buff thieves” theats in General Discussion? Are you guys afraid of posting in the thieves forum because you know they will pulmonary strikte you for the suggestions?
Really 5 mins ago the vitallity threat got moved to the sub forum…. If your concern is with the class: thieves den.
If your concern is with the thief’s Rolle in wvw or pvp: wvw or pvp forum. If you want shiny wings, cry for a refund or randomly shout out why you quit: General Discussion.

Now, with regards to your suggestions.
I suggest the following. Play zerker gear p\p Staff or Staff d\p join a pvp match look out for light armour, enjoy. I main they Bad Bad low skill trash warrior. And even a scrub like me got the champion shaddow achievement in under 2 months. Mate once you get used to this class it is amazing how much possible options you have. I enjoy playing thief. It is not direct and head in but please play staff and only after you got used to it decide if Staffel is trash. I for one use staff right now to cheese unranked matches. Staff 5 in point 2 times and you most likely killed something. Condi thief is hard to pull of, the dmg is lower, but lets be honest there are few things more infuriating to fight than a good condi thief. That how ever is just my experience.

Before I start, let me just say that I didn’t even read your last paragraph, since I was basically facepalming and rolling in laughter by the 3rd.

As I was reading this, my jaw actually started to drop. What the hell are you saying? Literally everything you said made me ask, “Is this guy stupid?”

1. “The damage (on staff) is good not great”
– 5-13k damage on vault crits, half that on #3. Do you even play thief?
2. “why not add passive stealthy for the thief?”
You obviously don’t play thief. You want thieves to get randomly revealed while their in combat? Great. Cause that won’t kitten off 90% of the PvP/WvWers.
3. “Why not add if you complete a dodge roll on combat you gain stealth for 4 seconds”
- O.M.F.G. Do you know how ridiculous it would be to fight a daredevil. 3 dodges later, they have 12 seconds of stealth. That’s practically a 15 second cd shadow refuge.
4. “Sure you can expand your stealth via a trait, by one second? Are you kidding me? That’s a joke right?!”
- Do you realize how annoying this trait is to fight against? Do the words “perma stealth troll thief” ring any bells?
5. “Blinding powder should be 6 to 10 second stealth considering the cool down and the shadow refugee shouldn’t be seen by enemy players either considering I’m already stealth on the first place! That doesn’t even make any sense lol!”
- I can’t even comment on this, its THAT stupid.

If you take a minute to even think about what he’s saying, you’d realize its coming from someone who has no idea how the game works.

Me, on the other hand, I multiclass, and although I do main Druid, I can use a variety of builds on multiple classes and still probably roll over you in game 1v1. Also, coming from someone who’s been maining zerker ranger (hardly called unkillable) since launch, my opinion means a lot according to your logic.

I was a power ranger before it was cool.
