No to guilds fighting guilds in Guild Wars 2?
1) Bad for you, when I didn’t knew where I could get the cool looking stuff I was always wondering “Man that guy looks awesome, where did he get this stuff?”.
2) Downscaling is an awesome mechanic. You’re still a lot stronger than players of that level, but not strong enough so content becomes trivial. It makes world completion a lot more interesting even after hitting level 80. Sadly that is the only reason to come back to most zones.
3) No. That would just lead to a ton of frustration and interferes with Anets design philosophy of seeing random people in the open world as allies, not hostiles.
4) The World is too small and not designed for mounts. There are very little areas where there’s enough space to ride around, yet the scale of the mounts would be ridiculous on races like norn and charr. Even though the world is already not really believable, mounts would break the immerson even further.
1. It’s a matter of personal taste. One man’s “awesome armor” is another mans “children Halloween costume,” especially if it’s Citadel of Flame armor.
2. I actually really love zone level scaling. No matter where I go in the game, I get to feel challenged by the foes, even though my high-level gear, skills, etc. mean I’m still noticeably more powerful than, say, my friend who isn’t downscaled. Some of my favorite areas in the game are relatively low-level, and World Completion would be a absolute nightmare if I could just rip my way through every zone without any risk or strategy.
3. Sounds kinda like WvW, but I’ve only scratched the surface there, so I can’t pretend to give any strong (or even very knowledgeable) opinions there. I’ve never been much of a PvPer in games. \o/
4. Eh, I think your perspective on mounts is definitely reflective of whatever game you’re coming from, where they sound like a major status element, which is a purpose served by some of the more difficult to obtain armor sets, or, certainly, the more difficult to obtain weapons. Do the (nonflying) mounts you’re talking about actually do anything special, like add new combat skills, or just make you travel faster?
I’m glad you’re enjoying the game, at least!
1. My negative reactions to GW2 armor boil down to: too many medium trench coats and not enough light armor pants. In the past, armor that others felt made them look like a bad kitten, I thought just made them look bad (reference: shoulder armor three times the size of the character’s head).
2. Down-leveling does not make the experiences as it would be if you were on level. So, it takes me 2-3 hits to kill a mob rather than1, and they can hurt me. I have a hard time thinking anyone finds one-hitting a mob that could not even hit them to be even remotely interesting.
3. No, thanks. I’d be happy to see a GvG PvP mode, but not open world PvP.
4. Meh. I like moving faster, it doesn’t have to be on a mount.
Honestly, I think all of these wants are a product of playing other games, usually, the first game a player really likes. That was the reason I found WoBorecraft to not be a game for me.

This post makes the most sense here. Should move it to the top and change the thread title.
Can’t forget to add the scaling issue with armor on non-humans too, which is one of the reasons all the coats annoy me.
Agree with all but 3. No open world PvP game i played was ever fun and the griefing was constant.
But yes more PvP modes need to be added and GVG needed to be included a year ago.
The only one of the things you’ve written that I’d comment on OP, is the zone level scale. I mean armor is a matter of taste, I personally like mounts, but I’m not sure they’d fit in this game, and PvP I cant’ comment on because I don’t do it.
But of all the things that Guild Wars 2 has gotten right (and there’s been a few), downscaling is by far my favorite feature.
Some of us like to go play with guildies and new players without rolling alts. Some of us like a whole world to play instead of standing around in the highest level zone (or worse standing in cities waiting for dungeon queues to pop). Some of us like that the entire world is viable, even if it is easier.
In every other MMO I’ve played, I’ve had different alts to play with different people who level at a different speed.
I’m so glad I don’t have to do that here.
In every other MMO I’ve played, I’ve had different alts to play with different people who level at a different speed.
Been there before, and it was a huge pain in the neck. I’d start a character at the same time as a friend, we’d play for a while, and then one of us would get out of sync with the other because we weren’t only playing in sessions together, and before long I’m choosing between using my main (small challenge and even smaller rewards) and my alt, who is no longer level-appropriate. Ridiculous.
Now, I’ll occasionally bring in an alt if I want to train them (and they’re not too low to match my friend,) but if I want to bring in a level 80 character, I can still earn rewards without making my friend feel like a dog fighting alongside a tank.
I agree with you on all of your points. As much as I like Guild Wars 2, I don’t get the “Epic” feeling from any armor in the game. I mean, I’m biased because I played WoW for so long, but in WoW people really were afraid to attack me. I had a big glowy sword and a massive shield that was bigger than most of my opponents. I also had golden armor that gave me an aura of pure awesomeness. I literally recall a couple of druids walking up to me, hitting me a couple of times and being like, “lol, nope!” and stealthing to get away.
Also, I would much rather have mounts in this game than waypoints. I understand it’s for casual gamers that don’t have time to run everywhere, but by waypointing you miss all of the beautiful world that Anet created. When you ride a mount you get to look at every single detail of the world as you ride past on your way to your destination.

After playing for a while there are a few things that don’t feel right to me. Or that doesn’t make 100% sense in my view.
First off let me say that I am loving this game so far, I plan on playing for a long time! For everyone one of these negatives, I could find 10 more positives to replace it.
Things that don’t seem right to me:
1) Gear. I have yet to see a level 80 who’s gear stood out to me saying, “That dude looks like he could own some crap!” Besides a few Warriors who looked cool, the gear in general doesn’t look that “epic” to me. For a level I am putting so much time/effort into getting, along with gear that I put a huge amount of time in for. I’d like the gear to look more fancy. Like the player is BA, or if you saw him in WvW you’d think twice about attacking him.
2) Zone level scaling. I get this one, you can always go back to old area’s and play them like you are still that level. Again, this takes away that “epic” feel though. Other MMO’s I remember playing, you’d beat an area and come back at max level and feel that power of being able to crush things that once gave you so much trouble. It felt like your character that you are role playing actually “advanced” and grew as a character. Things that once were hard, are no longer. Showing how far you have come. You never get to feel like you have a powerful character, things are always a struggle.
3) No Open World Pvp. I get that you don’t want spawn camping or there is no point. However, I loved that feeling while you were leveling and wondering who was going to be around a corner you turned. You truly felt like your life was in danger. Or after you have been killed, a higher level came to your aid. I get there are no fractions but maybe have guild vs guild? Example: If you are in a feud with another guild, you can kill them in your world. Guilds battling guilds, in open world. This game is called Guild Wars?
4) Mounts. Again, I get that they can take away from the world. I DO NOT support flying mounts. I want the world to still feel big, flying mounts take from that. I also get that you have Way Points. Mounts though, added to an epic feel and gave you something to progress for. That feeling when you finally reached a high enough level and enough money to get your mount. Another “epic” feel factor.
These are the main things I feel are lacking. The biggest one is probably gear. It has no epic look or BA feel to it.
Again, I love this game so far! For these small annoyances I could make a list 10x bigger about things that I love! Just wanted to see if anyone found these things similar. Thanks for your input ahead of time! :-)
1- You think armor is horrible now, wait for the EPICALLY horrid ascended crap
that has been shown to be released soon.
2- The zone level scaling is just fine, I absolutely STOMP mobs in lower levels
because ONLY your level is lowered not your armor and weapons which
significantly counters this slight disadvantage.
3- In all that is holy, no, all we need are people running around in open PvE wanting
to duel, disrupting peoples gaming with duel requests only to be harassed for not
wanting to duel.
4- Again no effing way, sorry, there is nothing epic about riding around on a horsey
or whatever else, you want that, get the broom that is already in the game.

1 – Sure. I can get behind that but ONLY if you agree women should have epic Not-Bikini Armor gear too. You have no idea how it kittens me off to want to dress my Guardian in a style that suggests purity, strength, resolve, and determination and only find “LOL CLEAVAGE AND THIGHS” in the majority of examples when the men get impressive full plate armor that makes them look like knights and heroes.
2 – No. Nope. Nein. Level scaling provides a challenge so you can’t just faceroll a lower level area and makes it so players often have to work together instead of one 80th level dude taking down an entire event by himself. You want that “epic” feel, a lot of other MMO’s don’t downscale.
3 – Absolutely NOT. I don’t want the stress of worrying about some jerk ganking me to prove the size of his e-ego – if I want that, I will go into WvW. I’m not against a PvP server being formed but make it an option, not a forced choice on all servers.
4 – No. You seem to be in search of an “epic” feel – have you crafted a Legendary or Ascended?
Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.

I agree with him.
No for GvG in PvE as well. Yes for GvG in an area designed for it though.

In fairness, I think this is a little disingenuous. There’s a long tradition of heroes with special mounts, from Gandalf and Shadowfax to Bellerophon and Pegasus. One man’s “stupid horsey” might be another man’s something awesome, as with Odin’s horse, Sleipnir, which had eight totally absurd and impractical legs. You might not like horses in video games or feel they make a character cooler, but I really have to object to anyone saying Sigurd riding around on Grani isn’t “epic.”
Might as well just say “cool” if we’re going to discount magic horses, which are roughly as common in the epic genre as magic swords.
3- In all that is holy, no, all we need are people running around in open PvE wanting to duel, disrupting peoples gaming with duel requests only to be harassed for not wanting to duel.
The Op did not ask for dueling, but for open season gankfest PvP.

But… we have waypoints everywhere… there is no need for such things. I guess… if like… you just wanted a pretty pony to sit on, then whatever… they could sell it in the gem shop and make some bucks (but that’s not what people usually mean when they say they want mounts). I don’t think it’s at all necessary to have speed increases with the WPs and all the character mobility options available to us though.

Ok, here is a VALID REASON to not have mounts, that being many would only use them to annoy people by parking said horsey right on top of an NPC making it a chore to target said NPC in order to interact with it, much like many do with the summoned merchants in LA by placing one directly on top of the banker or other interact-able NPC there, you see where this is going.

OP I think you are suffering from MMO conditioning
I get that you liked those things in other games but they do not really make sense in GW2
just one thing, down leveling is one of my favorite features in the game- if anything it should be more because it doesn’t take into account traits
But mostly I feel pretty epic actually
I would love open world pvp but thing is that this whole game has not been designed in a way that would work so it is impossible.
With the other statements i disagree, especially armor. I have seen some really nice sets and am happy with mine aswell.
I think you want WoW type of armor which is the ugliest type of armor i have seen in any MMO to date (shoulders bigger than your head, glowing kitten swords and kids think those are cool)
My problem with this game is that it’s not like the first one.. at all.
Abberrant — To be clear, I don’t actually care about having a mount. If it’s just a speedboost, I don’t see a point in it, so it would have to offer a distinctly new feel to the game to be worthwhile. Shadow of the Colossus, for instance, provides a very good horseback mechanic, which is a lot faster than running, but also a lot harder to control. Since the open world isn’t designed for wide-turns, however, I’m specifically against the idea of mounts that you can summon anywhere, like in houses or at the end of jumping puzzles.
I just didn’t like Mudbone’s tone. Whether you feel something is cool or not, don’t forget that someone else might feel differently on the subject.

That is a more valid reason. Of course, people can already do that by parking a large charr or norn character on an NPC (which affects mouse clicking, if not [f] key interaction,) or, as you said, using a summoned NPC. Honestly, though, I’ve never seen anyone actually do that, so I wasn’t even aware if this was a problem before.
OP, let me guess… Wow right?
