We will not get the option to craft the precursores.

You will absolutely see a way to create a precursor available in the future. As detailed in our plans for the second half of the year here:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/

As mentioned at the end of the blog, as always things are subject to change as test and prepare various systems. Most of the stuff covered in the blog you’ve already seen implemented, or steps towards being implemented, however the precursor building (and corresponding additional legendary items) is the one highest at risk to not make it this year.

It is still something we absolutely plan to do!

Colin what about:

- “New Skill and Traits”
- “New fractals”
- “Ascended Armors”
- “New legendary weapons and backpack” – “On top of this, you’ll also see new legendary weapons and new types of legendary gear in 2013”

Are these things also moved to 2014?

It takes time.

And that’s good lets hope the new fractals or ascended gear or anything in general won’t be an auto attack spam in zerker gear or a crafting to-do grind list.

You’re right — we should give them at least 1-2 maybe 3 more years.

Some of the things the promised for 2013 just aren’t going to happen and nobody should be surprised. I’m more curious to see if the releases towards the end of the year reach the level they did last year. Think Southsun release, et al.

“New Skills and Traits” – While not fully fleshed out, some classes have received new Traits and Skills. Exp – Tainted Shackles.
“New Fractals” – Probably coming in November
“Ascended Armor” – Armor has already been datamined implementation is probably coming soon.
“New Legendaries” I doubt this will be coming this year or at least anytime soon.

Fractals will more likely be in December since the living story teams are working on 4 month intervals . They didn’t know who was going to win the election until after Cutthroat Politics ended so the Queens Jubilee/Clockwork Chaos team is probably working on the FotM patch instead of the Bazaar/Cutthroat team.

The great thing about GW2 is that it is (and always has been, which is a key) without a monthly fee. If you’re bored, leave for a while. They’ll keep adding content, and when something is released that you like (New fractals, heck, they’ve got to unlock the desert and some new dragons eventually!) You can pop in and check it out for free. Its one of two reasons that I can think of that this game hasn’t seen the dropoff that most games outside of WoW have seen after the first few months of release.

That’s what I did with original GW. I came back years later, my character was still there, I bought an expansion pack, and was right back in it.

I wonder what will be in 2014 :o

-Personal Journal: Character-bound journals that has written entries about the NPCs you’ve interacted with, your relationship with them, the places you’ve been, the history you’ve learned about each location, and the events you’ve participated in.

-Newspaper and Bulletin Boards (news about the living story updates, making clear what is going on in the world right now, bulletin board lists all current activities like mini games, world events and has a link to LFG)

-Profession and Character-specific Quests: Upon logging in, your character is notified by an NPC that he has urgent matters to attend. This opens up a new line of character-specific quests based on your profession, race and the characteristics you chose when you made the character. These quest lines eventually leads to the 3 Mission Outposts (yes, like in Guild Wars 1) that either take us to Maguuma Wastelands, Far Shiverpeaks or Crystal Desert. It is then that the 3 imminent threats are revealed to us. And you know who they are in each of those locations.

-New Race: New threats have caught the attention of the Tengu and they are allowing a representative of each of the Orders into the Dominion of the Winds. This is a new quest line that you can participate once you’ve attained a new rank in your Order by completing some tasks. The Tengu wants to Order to share information about the Elder Dragons. In exchange, they will offer their help in venturing into the Maguuma Wastes, Far Shiverpeaks or Crystal Desert.

-New Weapon Types: New profession-specific quest lines open up opportunities to learn new weapon types. Seek a mentor in the Far Shiverpeaks that will teach you how to use a Lance. A tribe in the Crystal Desert will teach you their art of Scythe wielding in exchange for your lessons in Axe combat. Go on a hunt with a band of natives in Maguuma Wastelands and learn how to shoot a Crossbow.

-Guild Halls: With new threats rising, it becomes clearer than ever that people have to unite. Destiny’s Edge reforms. Guilds across Tyria build strongholds called Guild Halls to prepare for war. Guild Halls can obtain their own custom bulletin board, newspaper, menagerie, merchants, portals, and dueling arena.

-Dueling/Sparring: New threats create urgency in everyone. Tyrians are training for combat and learning new skills and new weapon types. Tyrians are also getting into the habit of sparring and dueling. A player can challenge another to a duel out in the Living World. The outcome of a match may form a rivalry as the number of times you win/lose against that player tallies up.

if it takes the wildstar devs over a year to put in a single new dungeon path and simultaneously remove an existing path I might agree with you.

The biggest worry that I have about Wildstar at the moment is that NCsoft wont see enough profits fast enough and start nerfing content to “appeal to a wider audience”

eve model $15 a month but you can use in game money to buy more time

wildstar is going after a very niche hardcore pve market as well as a hardcore pvp market. by going f2p or b2p requires appealing to a broad market to get them to spend money in your cash shop. by being a monthly fee they don’t have to dumb things down to the lowest common denominator.

The reason I asked: I have played a lot of MMOs. IMO having the $15 monthly fee gives people a reason to permanently “quit” the game instead of just getting bored with it. It creates a barrier to re-entry so unless the game is extremely epic, it usually results in lower populations after the first few months when people get bored with launch content [unless the game is another WoW of course]. There will still be people playing, but it will be more like Lineage 2 with a small hardcore following, or SWTOR where everyone leaves after a month and they are forced to put in a F2P option (thereby announcing to the world “HEY, OUR GAME IS DEAD, PLEASE COME SAVE US!”)

The GW2 option is better because people can come back after a bit without seeing the “F2P” label (I see this and think “yuck” because the F2P crowd isn’t the same type of community that a well established game is. They also tend to use the excuse “Hey, its free” around every corner) or they pay and have to take the risk to play the game, or they come back, pay, and see the world completely dead.

I got bored of wow YEARS ago, and before then (my first MMO was SWG) and since then I’ve been going from MMO to MMO trying to find one where my guild, community, etc. didn’t disappear on me — semi-forcing me to leave before I was ready. Sad really, there was a lot of good games in that group.

i agree with you up until this point. yes the b2p model does have its benefits (all the goldsellers accounts on free weekends etc) but the direction that they have taken the game with almost exclusive fluff content is because of this payment model in the first place. It has to appeal to the widest audience while coming out with constant content to give those people a reason to log in constantly. When quantity and speed are the focus over quality the game suffers and guild wars is suffering in this respect.

Yeah, its not perfect. I, frankly, prefer the $15/mo option, but I also NEED to know my MMO isn’t going to be dead in 2 months. I had faith in GW2 to last, and I’m not disappointed. Its been a year since launch and I see people while leveling. I fight a vetran mob or start an escort quest and people join me. I won’t be trying another MMO because I find that GW2 is part of a rare group of MMOs that has “succeeded” where other have “failed”.

I love everything in this. Especially the newspaper part.
I think we should have a “Tyrian Monthly” based out of Lion’s Arch and Capital specific ones as well that tell of goings on (specifically in the LS). Additionally you could have ‘archives’ at the different Newspaper HQ’s where you could read up on prior editions and thus prior LS’s. Personally think it’s a brilliant idea.

Also adding more race and profession specific personal quests (which are INDEPENDENT of an overarching super-story) would be wonderful.

If you could pick 5 things that would greatly improve gw2 what would they be?

Me personally

1. Elite Dungeons (ala fow, uw, doa)
2. Fractal rewards revamp
3. Hard mode for dungeons (or even that gambit idea i saw somewhere)
4. Instanced fights for world bosses (make them into small raids)
5. Give each dungeon/path a unique TRADABLE weapon/skin. Just how you could only get the obby sword from fow or the bds from SoS. They could even make it precursors.

Guild halls would probably be 6th.

I mean where did you think your money from gem purchases goes? Obviously to fund the creation of another game that will share a 95% likeness to Guild Wars 2.

Instead of adding new content to the game, they can just reskin the entire game and sell it to you again.

If you could pick 5 things that would greatly improve gw2 what would they be?

Speaking purely on a pve front and ignoring things in pvp that would keep me interested (where the kitten is deathmatch or arenas?) 5 things that would massively improve dungeons.

1. complete boss fight overhaul. Have you seen the 5 man dungeon shown in wildstar? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QG_82r0RzfI Timing your stuns to remove defiance and avoid party wipes, mechanics that don’t focus tanks and involve the whole party. When I saw this video it blew my mind and they still haven’t shown either of the 20 man or 40 man raids yet.

2. remove the fractal cap. seriously what the kitten were they thinking with this one? unlimited levels to test your skill JK ITS CAPPED AT 81 oh you got there in a week when we thought it would take years? LOL kitten YOU CAPPED AT 49. we have 55 ar at fractal 48 i take like 200hp per tick on maw but at 50 its an instant wipe. skill based progression my kitten .

3. Heroic mode for dungeons. better rewards for harder fights? sounds good to me. hopefully the datamined info proves right and we get some form of hardmode soon but until we get confirmation i wont hold my breath

4. A reason to show off in game. Ive said this for a while that there is not much reason to progress in fractals since you can get all the weapons at level 20. how about a hue change on the effect of the fractal weapons based on your highest personal reward level? fotm20 its white fotm 30 its blue fotm 40 its green fotm 50 its red etc. this way outside of actually playing the dungeon you can show off that you have worked kitten your character.

5. ties into #4 and #3. give better account bound rewards from specific bosses. a unique set of weapons or armor that drops from simin or lupi or laurent. give something to show off that you killed whatever boss in hardmode without it being as stupidly rare as recipes and not something that you can sell so eventually they are a gold or two on the auction house.

These wont make the game perfect but its a kitten good start

Secondly, you can also drop games like WoW and come back to it at a later time. Most WoW players including myself have quit and gone back multiple times.

Basically what I am trying to say is that the payment model can’t be used as an excuse anymore, especially when the market is flooded with F2P games.

I would say that there is a difference between free to play and purchase to play, and that games that start out with a monthly payment method, lose all their base, then convert to F2P don’t attract the same audience as one designed to be funded this way like GW2. GW2 is a year old and they’re still selling it for $50. That is a total win. SWTOR was $15 two-three months after release, then became free. Finally, WoW is different than most MMOs, and using it as a comparison is unfair.

I’ve played a lot of MMOs, but ultimately I can only give you examples that apply to me, I’m not a mind reader. I’ve seen all those F2P games on Steam, they make me want to puke. I’ve seen games like SWTOR become F2P, and I have zero desire to go back.

ArenaNet runs the Guild Wars series, and NCSoft runs other series. NCSoft was running Lineage 2 and City of Heroes while Guild Wars was running. I think your guess is a little cynical.

Guild Wars was also buy-to-play, although they used expansions instead of the gem store. NCSoft was running-wild with $15/mo subscription fees in CoH and Lineage2 at the same time.

ArenaNet is an American based company that is a subsidiary of NCSoft, a Korean company. There are definitely differences in the “style” of the game they make. Just google “Eastern Vs Western MMOs”, I know its a thing, although I haven’t read too much into it myself. I do notice the difference when I play them though.

Carbine which makes WildStar is also an American company. NCSoft owns both Carbine and Arenanet. They aren’t just publishers. But I am sure everyone knows that.

That’s news to me, I cant get the website for WildStar to load where I am at the moment. Good to know, although Carbine is new (so we have no precident), it gives the game hope. I’ve given up on pure-NCSoft games.

PS: Did some more research, and it CoH was another American company created by NCSoft, which makes a lot more sense. The only pure NCSoft games are Lineage, Lineage 2, and Aion, the 3 worst games I’ve ever played. (Exaggerating a bit)

ArenaNet is an AMERICAN based company that is a subsidiary of NCSoft, a Korean company. There are definitely differences in the “style” of the game they make. Just google “Eastern Vs Western MMOs”, I know its a thing, although I haven’t read too much into it myself.

CARBINE is an AMERICAN based company that is a subsidiary of NCSoft.

So im not sure what you point was

from the wiki

You guys are aware that NC Soft also owns Wildstar, correct?

I mean where did you think your money from gem purchases goes? Obviously to fund the creation of another game that will share a 95% likeness to Guild Wars 2.

Yeah I just posted about that. The thing that gets me going most re: MMOs is that they’re not something you can play on your own time. If you’re playing by yourself, you’re not getting the same game. They’re different than any other type of game because I could go buy some old game and still enjoy it, but if I tried to go into an old MMO I wouldn’t get the same experience at all. After years and years of dealing with this problem it has made me very wary of new MMOs that hit the market. I feel the need to carefully analyze every aspect of the game to determine if it will last past the two month mark in any significant manner.

To each their own though, doesn’t really matter.

Colin what about:

- “New Skill and Traits”
- “New fractals”
- “Ascended Armors”
- “New legendary weapons and backpack” – “On top of this, you’ll also see new legendary weapons and new types of legendary gear in 2013”

Are these things also moved to 2014?

Did I miss the last 3 months of 2013? Wow, time flies when you’re jumping to conclusions and getting worked up about stuff before it’s even happened.
Welcome to 2014!!
