First of all let me say I love GW2 and think it was beautifully done, however I do have a few issues.

1: I hate how a zone will say 55-65, first few quest hubs are 55- 57ish then all of a sudden mob levels jump to 62+. I understand that exploration is a big part of the game and you can simply go to another zone of the same level and do some of the earlier quest hubs, but lets be honest…. it is beyond annoying to have to jump all around and 2 silver to use a waypoint to get to another zone seems a bit much. Yes I want to explore all the map but I also want to do it on my terms.

2: I understand that being a F2P game you need to make money some where but I fail to see why buying bank slots is account wide and yet bags are not. Since release I have dropped 50 dollars into game on top of the game cost itself and all I got were like 4 or 5 extra bank slots and unlocked the bag slots for one toon only, still leaving me the extra char slots and all the bag slots for 7 more toons, plus the 1 or 2 bank slots I have left to buy. I would much rather pay a monthly fee and have access to all this then spending another 150 or more dollars on these items.

3: The hall of monuments, why is this only usable for GW1 players? So what if it is only skins or mini pets, it hardly seems fair. I never played GW1 because of the everthing be instanced crap I found it insanely annoying and it felt more like a single person rpg than a MMO. I feel everyone should have the right to use the hall of monuments not just the old GW players considering GW1 is how old now? Makes me feel kind of cheated truth be told.

Anyways those are my beefs, I’m sure like every other MMO forum this post will be flammed and trolled for expressing a opinion, but whatever flame on.

You do reliaze that you can turn in game currency to this “gem” currency and you dont have to waste RL money. And making money at level 80 is SOOOOOOO, and since yo umention the 55-65 zone I would say you are in that level range and in no way need THAT much bag / account space.

You can get more gems for your gold now than when I bought my bank slots, and even back then I thought I paid a pittance for them. And I don’t know why anybody would need to buy bag slots. I’ve been using 8-slotters from around level 10 to level 80 and despite having 400 leatherworking I haven’t felt the need to upgrade them, let alone buy bag slots. Karma vendors/merchants are absolutely everywhere and you can instantly send all crafting materials to the bank from any location. Inventory management is absurdly easy.

If you want the Hall of Monuments stuff, it isn’t cut off to you just because GW2 has been released. You can still play GW1 to get that stuff. Maybe you don’t like GW1, refuse to play it, and won’t get those rewards, but I’m not sure I see the issue there. Seems about the same as me hating the dredge dungeon and refusing to do it, and not having access to the dredge armor because of that.

Yes you can get gems for gold and vice versa 400 gems is worth about 48 silver…..
And why shouldn’t new players have access to all the same skins as old players? Who cares what you may have achieved in the original version of game that is almost as old as time itself now, where is the appeal for the new player base, why bother completing acheivments if there is no reward in it for us? I see no reason to play a dated game for skins…anyways just my opinion.

In a few other f2p games I played the bags and banks were never even permanent for the cash shop currency. You could unlock 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, etc and it was really expensive.

Just imagine how it’d be for someone who’s spent years and years playing GW1 only for their community to probably drop in active players by like 75% overnight and then how abandoned they’d feel. HoM is for those long-term GW vets that deserve rewards for the hard work of keeping their community going strong.

The Hall of Monuments was something in GW1 for players to track achievements they earned. Why do people who haven’t earned the rewards think they’re entitled to have them?

Why not let everyone have a HoM?

The GW1 guys would have their GW1 stuff in it and the rest of us would only have stuff we get in GW2?

If people played both games they get to show off their GW1 stuff AND their GW2 stuff.

I don’t see the problem here.

I disagree strongly with your bank-slot versus bag-slot argument. Bags are craftable by players, so if you make them account-wide then eventually, that removes that ability from the economy for those that can make bags.

Greed? Did I not pay for this game like everyone else? The black widow pet is only available to the best of my knowledge through the HoM, how is that fair to every other ranger in game?

So by your logic the only way to support the game is to have played the first one….even tho the first one could hardly be considered a MMO in any sense of the word.

Why do people feel entitled? Because they paid for the game that’s why. If the HoM was explained properly to begin with that would be one thing, yes they said people who played first game would be able to get blah blah blah, also said that it would be available to all players. Being able to go to some musty ruin is not what new players would have expected.

The point is this….. the second I spent money on the game I showed my loyalty in both actual game purchase plus gem store purchases. Maybe if the first game had been more playable I would have played it. I’ve been playing MMO’s since EQ1 and thus have made a lot of friends through playing MMO’s 90%, of whom couldn’t stand the first GW and how the game play was set up.

So what if you played the first one, it does not make you special, the past is the past and if this game is going to succeed all players new or old should be treated as equal. You can argue your points with me all day, not going to change my opinion lol.

The HoM was explained years ago.

And GW2 would not exist if GW1 didn’t have such a long-running, long-standing community and group of people who bought and played the game. If they want to give a small reward, in the form of cosmetic items, to those who supported them for the better part of the past decade, then it’s well within their rights to do so.

Also, GW1 was never marketed as an MMO. Looking at the sales numbers for the game, there are a great many people who enjoyed that fact.

The zone thing is trivial imo. I’ve often wandered into areas a few levels above mine and while I couldn’t play as carelessly I could still play although I’d avoid more fights that I didn’t need to get into.

Bank/bag slots. Banks are account wide so any expansions to them should be account wide. Inventory bags are character specific so expansions to those are to the character. It makes sense to me. They even make it a bit cheaper to add more bag slots. And as others have said you don’t have to spend a dime of real money. You can just spend some in game gold and get gems. I honestly only plan on paying for expansions/new content and I won’t spend real money on stuff in the gemshop.

HoM is all 100% skins. Even the Black Widow spider pet is only a skin, it shares it’s skill set with another in game spider. Same with the Black Moa and the Rainbow Jellyfish. The mini’s are the only thing that’s not a skin but those are meaningless to actual gameplay.

HoM was explained in clear plain English from the moment Eye of the North was announced up to the release of GW2. Whether or not you actively looked for this information can only be explained by you. Your dedication for guildwars 2 is commendable and all rewards earned in guildwars 2 should be equal to all. I have to agree with previous posters about the veteran rewards from guild wars1. this is a thank you by Anet for our dedication and hard work to their dev team throughout our gw1 campaign.

Now, I don’t think you understand what you are saying. All players, new and old, are treated as equal. Just because you bought the game, you do not assume you’d be level 80 right away. Right? I hope not. Neither do you assume that you would get items you did not earn by playing… O wait, that’s what you’re assuming.

Sure, there are some perks that only come to those who are sort of hardcore fans of GW and have been playing longer. If ANet was your average greedy company that didn’t think about anything else than profit, I suppose you would be able to get the HoM rewards through the Black Lion Trading Company. Apparently, you cannot. And I’m glad about that.

To be honest, your rage has the same tone as the Americans complaining how “the stresstest is in the middle of a week day!?! Who do you think is going to play?!?! I’m at work!?!” which was just self-centered Kittenthing. (How did the censor go again?) Funny how they too always mentioned “having paid” for it. No they did not. You paid for what was promised and that was delivered. If you did any research before buying, you would’ve known that GW1 players do get some small perks based on how hard they plaid GW1.

People who can argue often offer a good and meaningful conversation about the subject.
People who can’t tend to call the opponent troll, scream something utterly incomprehensible
and finally result to personal insults.

I can kind of agree a bit on number 1. I remember going into a zone at the low end of the level range and ending up with mobs 5 levels higher than me. I remember having to run for my life to get to the part of the map that fit my level range. I would have liked to see the entrance of the map match my level. I’ve played the game since headstart and have logged in 116 hours. I rarely used my bank. I either sold my items on TP (I have to admit I was lucky a few times when they were letting a small % test it out) or salvaged the items for mats. Maybe if I was more of a crafter I’d agree with the second point.

So i should get all the dungeon raid gear upon subbing for WoW just because it’s an old game? I for one loved GW1 and played it for 6 years. I see a lot of people complain about the instanced PvE, but to be honest, it’s a lot less like a single player experience than GW2. In GW2 you can solo everything, explore everything, and never need to physically group or play strategically beyond stunbreaker, heal, and dodge while spamming your rotation. In GW1, you had to build characters and form teams that synergized well together off the basis of deep skill pools and customization. Most that have qualms with GW1 usually didn’t give it much of a chance to engross them in the deeper, more satisfying aspects. i think that if you want what i worked for for 6 years, you should have to work for it as well. I played the game because i loved it, not because i wanted silly armor skins. I don’t think you should get a free pass just because you jumped onto the franchise bandwagon. If i’ve seen one illegitimate opinion on this forum, it’s that particular one. Good day.

I don’t mean it to be directed in an offensive way, but you seem to want a whole lot for nothing in return.

1) I can agree with you here. I was surprised to have completed exploring an entire map and getting the reward, while still being a few levels behind the max level for that area. I don’t think it is horrible, however. I’ve just adapted, and if i do all of the quests in the area, and my personal story, I am usually only behind by one level. It isn’t something that necessarily “irks” me, but I can understand why it might frustrate some people, and I would support adding one or two more hearts to each area, or maybe spawning Dynamic Events more often.

2) As people have already stated, you can play this game without spending a single penny (aside from the initial game purchase) on any additional content. What other MMO out there allows you to do this? Every MMO I know of is either pay monthly, or has a cash shop that offers no alternatives other than paying with real money. I just don’t think your argument is going to fly. You don’t want to pay real money for some of the unnecessary/extra content? Then don’t. You think it is too expensive? Then don’t use real money. Subscription-based games are no longer an effective marketing system. Not to mention, A-Net would be turning away a very large population of their playerbase if they became pay-to-play. Sacrifices are being made on all sides (player-side and marketing) to maintain a free-to-play system. If you don’t want to spend real money on things because you think it is too pricey, you aren’t excluded from these items because you can spend in-game-currency to buy gems. And what is nice is that you aren’t paying for your time to play Guild Wars2, so you wont be wasting any real-life money just to play the game while you earn gold.

3) The Hall of Monuments was implemented to keep loyal guild wars fans occupied while they waited for Guild Wars 2, while in the process rewarding them for having supported them over the years. Lots of games create exclusive items to show the loyalty and dedication of their playerbase. Beta-testers are often rewarded with exclusive items in other MMOs. Many games give exclusive hand-outs when players physically attend game-events like Blizcon and Pax. This isn’t anything new, and whats more, its NOT even exclusive. Anyone can still pick up the first game, and get these items. Demanding that these items be made available to everyone just because you don’t want to invest the time it took for everyone else to EARN these items, is just flat out lazy. I wasn’t super in love with Guild Wars, but when I heard about the Hall of Monuments, I re-installed and I went through to earn points and actually finished the story-line for the first time ever, even though it sat on my desk for 4+years. I only have 13 points at the moment (and all I did was run through one of the campaigns without any extra work), but I will eventually go back to earn the rest, just like you or anyone else can do. Sorry, but if you want these items, you’ll have to get them the same way everyone else gets them.

I agree with some of your points, but this one I simply can’t agree with.

Know why these skins are for GW1 players only? It’s a thank you for long time players who put so much time into the game. You know. Kind of being the reason you’re here, on the sequel now. They were kind enough, to you, the player who passed up the chance to play based on personal preference, to not make these items game-breaking in any way, and be purely cosmetic in form. They thought of you when they gave out these gifts, and yet you want more.

Well…So does Anet. Want Hall of monuments stuff? Go and earn it. GW1’s still open and the Hall is ready for another monument.

On point 3… I solo’d the experience remembering little about GW1 and it took me 421 hours according to Steam to go from 0 to 30 points. I did this waiting for GW2 because there was nothing else worth playing on the market. I also followed a guide and used the wiki like crazy. And I got distracted staffing my menagerie with all the pets for my ritualist/ranger =P You have the full capability of buying GW1 right now and some or all of its expansions… linking it to your GW2 account and unlocking the rewards even now. A guildee was powered through his progression to 30 and made it in ~100 hours.

Would you want to? Probably not, but that gives those of us who have been supporting Anet a little gift bag for trying out their new game based on the game we’re familiar with. It’s all vanity and has no stats. They are skin items we put on items we had to craft ourselves or acquire in other fashions.

GW2 is by and large a much more engaging game experience for me personally. I don’t think I have the want/need/desire/patience to title grind in GW1 to get to the next few reward tiers in HoM… more power to those people who did/do =)

One thing I do wish I could carry over from GW1 would be the Chaos Gloves. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Chaos_Gloves I was hoping the 30 point HoM fire gloves would have as impressive of a glow as those, but alas =(

Perhaps new content for GW2 players to chase in the future <3

To be honest, as many have already said, the rewards aren’t something to be upset about because they are only skins and mini pets and the others are simply titles. I was a bit disappointed though when entering to get the rewards because they are a bit underwhelming. I thought they’d implement a way to display your accomplishments again as well as the ones from GW so I’ll be hoping for something similar in the future but it’s not likely.

But you can always go back and add onto HoM points if you really do want the rewards (many people are still doing this so don’t worry). But don’t try and take away from people who have followed the game for years and spent the time earning stuff because we all enjoyed it then and now everyone can enjoy it’s sequel now. c :

1) I agree
2) You should have traded in-game gold for gems instead of wasting money, it’s insanely good ratio right now. I have 2000 gems and put maybe 2 gold or so in…
3) Are you serious? Lol.. it’s a reward for Guild Wars vets, if you really think you deserve those rewards then earn them yourself. WE would be the ones cheated if you could access these rewards for nothing.

I played GW1 from the start, but only have 11 points in my HoM. Because I have been taking longer breaks, playing every now and then and not felt like farming titles and such (except for that Defender of Ascalon).
Do I think it is unfair that I have less points than someone who bough the game a year ago and played to get all the points? No. If I had wanted all the points, I would have played more and tried to get those points. I find the HoM to be completely fair. If you played the first game and worked for those points, you deserve the reward for them.
As it has been said everywhere; it is just skins. Special looking skins that makes you no more powerful than anyone else.

Hall of Monuments was a REWARD for Guild Wars 1 players. If you did not play Guild Wars 1 you should not have access to the rewards.
