Thinking about returning
Why come here? Go and play and make up your mind after that..
Why come here? Go and play and make up your mind after that..
Like I said, I have 2gigs of updates to dl. Was just wondering if anyone had any opinions while I waited.
There are significant differences since the game launched. I don’t know when you left, so I don’t know what you have and haven’t seen.
For example, did you leave before Fractals came out? Did you leave before the daily laural was introduced? Did you leave before the new PvP map was introduced (I’m pretty sure that last one is a yes).
They’ve made improvements to WvW, at least, by removing cullling. There is still a lot of work on progress…and there’s a relatively big patch coming out on April 30th.
But yeah, log in and play. It’s the only real way to find out.
For PvE there is the Living Story content going on, the conclusion will start on the 30th. There is still time to do the earlier content.
Ascalon Catacombs were revamped a while ago. Maybe after you left.
meta and skill build balance shifted alot…
for pve…. i say, nothing much other than more objectives given.
like dailies, monthlies, rewards, guild events..
for the content itself, not much change..
carrot on a stick..
Still 4 maps, thieves are still dominant, but not as dominant due to culling being removed(Although personally I’ve had more issues since culling was removed.)
There are still a fair few cheaters and yes, servers are still unbalanced, but not as bad.
Fractals was nice, on the 30th there will be a new dungeon, but ultimately the living story is a let down and cursed shore got nerfed grinding wise.
As far as WvW is concerned, they removed culling and added a light vertical progression system through the acquisition of World XP, gained from kills or objectives, to acquire attribute points for WvW related things. Ex: Do more damage to Guards.
However, these two changes did nothing to help the prevalence of “zerg mentality” in the game. In fact, it’s seemed to enhance it. In the two highest matches(Tier 1-6), at least, small group fights are not as common as they used to be, meanwhile groups of 60+ people are far more common than they used to be.
There also a BIG spvp focused patch coming out the 30tthe and than the addition of boon hate.
I also took a long break from the game, and returned only very recently. I stopped playing just when Fractals was introduced.
I still see a few people playing low level areas, but it’s a heck of a lot quieter in map chat, and most are just asking for ‘timers’. There’s still a lot of people in LA, but I’ve never been moved into overflow anymore, and there’s no queue in WvW, which is nice. It’s also terribly quiet in LA, compared to before, where there’s constant calls for groups for all sorts of dungeons. Now, it’s just lfg fotm every hour or so. I went to the gates to each dungeon, as well, and, except for CoF, they were empty, compared to before, where there’s always a few people standing outside each dungeon.
I tried LFG HoTW one time, because I kinda miss the dungeon, and after spamming that a few times, someone whispered me a link to an LFG site (I guess, to me, they should just add an LFG tool if that’s gonna be the case, anyway). I’m assuming most of the folks are on guild or voice chat.
The dailies and monthlies was changed, so there’s a lot more variety in completing them. They’re still designed as a checklist gameplay, and I can’t see myself engaging in that type of activity. The week I spent playing net me 3 laurels, and that’s without really bothering finishing dailies at all (I mostly did WvW and the Living Story content). WvW feels much more playable now, due to the culling issue being removed. Orr feels ridiculously safe now, as well, but there’s also much less people than I remember.
If you’re returning into the game without a guild, it’s going to be a much lonelier game than before, so you really should join a guild as soon as possible.

downloading the game now, again. I have stopped about 4-5 months ago. Sad to hear they have not yet implemented an in-game LFG…

lol so now as I near the end of this massive update chain I find out the game is a ghost town. Hope it is more lively than you describe.

it’s not a ghost town at all, but maybe everyone’s just chatting in their own guild chats or something. It’s much quieter in public chat, but there are still lots of players.
The game is dying.
Ok, that is obviously a troll post. And it is as far from the truth as stating white is black
Come on, your download should be finished by now. Jump in and have fun.
On Desolation Queensdale is very populated. If the boss event draws near an overflow is nearly a certainty.
TBH, Dungeons are badly designed because ANET didn’t bother testing them.. so no they haven’t improved. All of them are still a mess, boring and anet really haven’t fulfilled on that level still. Hopefully in the future. Fractals is really good and should be the line where dungeons have to meet in terms of quality.
I’m not saying guild wars 2 is bad. I’m just saying the dungeons look rushed and need improving massively. Bad mechanics, don’t deny it.
At level 35 you should go and try AC the lowest dungeon of the game then give us feedback :p
