Hello. The first two weeks or so after I bought and downloaded this game everything was fine and worked ok. Besides being very laggy in champ situations because of the inability to filter or turn off any spell effects at all.

Recently it has become completely unplayable with constant disconnects about every 5 minutes or so. I see others are having problems as well from the tech support forums and I went through any and all suggested fixes.

I do not live in a remote area, (US East Coast) and do not have bad internet, I have premium internet and pay extra each month for higher bandwidth. My hardware configurations are all standard and 45+ other MMOS work absolutely fine.

Only GW2 is completely unplayable in its current state. I hope this gets resolved one day so I may come back to this game. (I am only level 16.) So long, and thanks for all the fish.

That is pretty odd. I’ve been on WvW all the day, zerg vs zerg, and I’m on a notebook using my cellphone’s internet.
(Also, I’m not in the USA but I’m playing on a NA server)

Have you tried sending a ticket?

Try some speedtest sites. Check your speeds that are going to your computer and check the ping your computer is getting.
speedtest.net
pingtest.net

If those are solid and all other web applications on your machine aren’t experiencing similar issues you should file a support ticket.

GW2 makes annoyingly inefficient use of hardware. From your descriptions I’m highly doubting it’s your internet at all. Is your internet staying connected (websites, email, etc.) when you get disconnected from Guild Wars 2?

Do you hav a video card? Most popular games I’ve found can be handled by graphics controllers in your CPU, so the absence of a video card won’t be obvious unless you’re fully familiar with your computer’s hardware specifications.

Seems completely unrelated to connecting… but error codes could shmerror codes.

It doesn’t matter if you you have premium internet, it matters what the actual dl and upload speeds are. Go to speedtest.net and choose an appropriate server, it will tell you the download and upload speed that you are actually getting.

To expand further on this, it can also be slower if you (or other family members) are using a lot of bandwidth. If someone is using hulu/netflix/amazon prime or just doing some heavy downloading it can affect your internet speed.

A final note on internet, if you have cable, the internet speed you pay for isn’t what you normally get. There will be 1 big cable that everyone in the area will be using/sharing. So if its “prime time” and everyone in the area is on the internet your speed can also suffer a bit from that.

Other problems, if you open up your task manager while gw2 is running (you can just right click the tool bar and choose “start task manager” if you’re on a win7 machine). Check your cpu and memory usage, if either is too high gw2 (and other things) will run slowly. You can lower it by closing any other programs besides gw2, and also closing other programs that aren’t necessary to play, but start up on boot (like skype, spotify, steam, etc.). Your cpu at boot will most likely be ~20-33% and about the same with memory (less if you have a newer comp). After boot both should be less than 50% give or take. If you are hitting 70 ish% it will most likely start hitting performance issues, which means you either need to upgrade your comp, lower the game settings, or close any/other programs while playing gw2. Oh, and if you don’t restart your computer often, it can help to restart to fully refresh the memory (when you close some programs you don’t always get all of the mem back thanks to memory leaks, so the longer your comp is on the worse your performance slowly gets).

I used to have a problem with getting disconnected every so often for no reason (in another MMO) and playing other online games worked fine. I could fix it by obtaining a new dynamic IP address, but it would always start to happen within 2 days. The reason was the ISP was flagging the game’s traffic as torrent traffic and throttling the connection, something which an ISP will never admit to. About a month later, they stopped and it never happened again.

If you ever drop to 0 FPS or the game freezes for a few seconds, it could be caused by you computer not being able to keep up with the processing. If you notice pauses while watching streams or you’ve seen downloads get interrupted, you could have an unstable connection. Somewhere between you and the GW2 servers, there could also be an unstable route, though this usually gets fixed within a day.

If you know someone close to you, you can use them to determine if it’s your ISP, your region, the connection to your computer or your computer itself that’s the problem.
