Undercover Dev definitely.
agreeing with tubular.
The changes to boon duration on mesmer has made the playstyle feel much more engaging.
I LOVE IT. Thank you Anet for giving us your best effort and giving us these patches/fixes just within a few months. This game in 6 months imo is gonna be “the game” that others will look up too. THx Anet!

Go away? you’re willing to agree with an openly stated opinion but not back it up by stating anything of analytical value, if you want your opinions to be treated with respect, then give those opinions the respect and attention they deserve to begin with, or watch them get trampled on and treated with cynicism.
Otherwise it’s like me saying, toblerone are the greatest chocolate bars in the world!
Sure I think that, but I have to actually give rationalizations as to WHY if I claim it on a “chocolate lovers” forum. Otherwise I may as well have opened up word and typed my statement into it, then hit save and ironically “saved” my fellow forum users a few moments of their all too short lives, reading an opinion, with no rhyme nor reason outside “cus I think so”
When someone posts a baseless statement, without reasoning then it always looks like a pointless plug or advertisement because the initial question that is raised when someone states something or an opinion is to simply ask as all humans inherently do
why?
Here’s how the op should have posted this thread
“This new patch has greatly improved the game, and further leads me to believe that this is one of the greatest video games I have ever played.”
Also, if this is the game to look up to. Why are other games not immediately getting on the band wagon? XD

It is a fun game. Needs some work at fine tuning. Put in more duo areas and I would be pleased. Oh and wvwvw love.
“Go away” thats not nice at all ….just kidding.Well my post has a bit f sarcasm and my response was just based on the actual situation of the forum and the amount of negative topics.I like the game, and i would have create the same thread/topic like this one but lately some changes are not so good and i start to see anet in a negative way,i still love the game but the game is not improved is just lead in a way and not the way the players want.Anyway support the “Preview” topic if you agree with me and others.
“We are now! We are forever!”
I wish the end-game bosses were not dragons.
But I like how they scaled-up the concept dragons, like:
1.) they are more of an idea than physically being there. We can see their minions and their effects on the world, but so far we’ve only ever seen one of the elder dragons (the claw of Jormag is not Jormag)
2.) They are more mystical than corporeal. They don’t eat to sustain. They devour magic, which is done through their priests and minions. It makes the concept more like a religion rather than a bestial being,
3.) A dragon’s awakening alone can sink a whole region underwater.
In comparison, I actually like Skyrim more than GW2 (wish there would be a Skyrim mmorpg soon). But the dragons in Skyrim are so pathetic.

Anet’s Chief Marketing Officer on his daily visit to the forums. I called it here!
Jokes aside, I enjoyed the game until I got bored. I advice others feeling the same to take a break and come back in few weeks.
I love this game very much. Enough that I have trouble understanding why some people are bored or frustrated and -especially- why they ascribe evil motives to ANet. Of course, I’ve had a ton of RP starting many months before launch, an awesome thriving guild on a highly populated server, and I happen to prefer cooperation over competition. Having played GW2 I cannot force myself to log in to my previous MMOs.
Yet some people aren’t going to find it to their taste. That’s fine. There are many other entertainment options out there! No need to vilify anyone either for liking it for for not liking it.
Side note re Skyrim. There -is- an Elder Scrolls Online MMORPG in the works, though it’s set long years before Skyrim and so there are no dragons. No dates have yet been announced but I think some time in 2013 is possible.
People get bored because they are the type of people that do not wish to invent new ways to have fun/play. If they can’t grind for stuff or do repetitive activities over and over or exploit something for their benefit, they complain or quit at the expense of others as I stated the true problem in the game in another thread to be:
“If one thing gets stale, do something else. Do an older dungeon with guild mates that need it (1 + gold a route with gold boosting buffs/food), help out other players (doing things you both need simultaneously clears stuff twice as fast than alone). Go form a group to clear Orr maps (like mass temple clears… use that 100s of thousands of karma you have on your new shiny exotics!) Help players in their story… (a bit if karma for doing it with them) teach people the game (more valuable than gold, because you make new friends and chances are they will help you in kind with gear/materials/etc). I can name so much more.
Has anyone considered the game is losing people over how damn unfriendly it is now to new blood?"
If people can see the light and glory of that is GW 2 it will be a much better place for all.
As I said in my own quote, if one thing is buggy or not working for you, try a new thing or help others and make them not quit over the touting of, “GW 2 is not friendly! I’m quitting!”
Its what I do to compensate for something that is wrong and not come here and spend my days complaining. “I have patience do you?” we should ask the whiners.

The game had a rough start, that’s it. I think that the worst is already behind us and that the game will get only better and better.

They are so glaringly obvious, aren’t they?
theres a reason why i have 600+ hours logged. by next spring, this game is gonna be ridiculously good with the spvp and wvw updates. hopefully open world update too.
I agree with the OP.
However, atm it’s cool for the MMO community to hate GW2.
Darkfall will be the next game that will be cool to hate…
“A release is 7 days or less away or has just happened within the last 7 days…
These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”
I am quite deep into the game now and have only found one annoyance.
And that is, some areas have to many trash mobs. Something I would have thought this game did not need with so many events going on.
But other than that, GW2 is the best mmo ever, for fun and frolications.
And that is, some areas have to many trash mobs. Something I would have thought this game did not need with so many events going on.
Agreed!
Like Lost Shore having so many risen with ticklish damage spamming all kinds of immobility skills on you. I just want to get from one place to another without being hindered by all these small fries.

Maybe it’s just me not having played GW1 to any significant degree but it’s interesting that both Rift and GW are using Dragons as main villains. For some reason, though, I find the Blood Storm Dragon Gods much more menacing.

Ive never played GW or Rift. But I’m definitely sure GW2 wouldn’t be the first game to feature a bunch of world-scale dragons as end-game antagonists. Dragons are a main allure in most fantasy themes. I just wished it was elevated to a concept that is more than just the physical construct of a dragon as we are conventionally familiar with, which Anet did to some degree in GW2.
Otherwise, it seems that the lore for this game is highly invented/not rooted in any real life mythology. So why settle for dragons? Might as well invent a new kind of beings for end bosses as well.
“This game is AWESOME!” said nobody ever.
What I wonder is why the game is awesome to the OP. I mean the rate of patches is debatable in the sense of whether they were good or not but is that the only reason why the OP likes the game.
When people complain the counter arguments are: you are not constructive, this is not the game for you and why are you still posting here.
When people are positive the counter arguments are: Is this an Anet employee or a troll?
Perhaps it would also be good if the people who are positive about the game would also be more constructive in the sense of being more specific about what they like and why. Then there may be an actual discussion.
I wonder about the psychology of people who hang around posting on forums of games they don’t like, sniping at anybody who expresses a positive opinion.
Don’t you people ever think ‘Hmm, doing literally anything else with my life right now would be more productive than this’? Don’t you have jobs? Family? Hobbies? Anything at all going on in your life?
I’m still laughing at that name. “Downstairs Eddie”. That is sheer awesome.
Puts me immediately in mind of Richie gesturing furtively to Eddie about ‘some cracking birds’ or some garbage. Bottom. Gods, how I love that show.
Sorry, back to the drama…

Pretty sure it’s just people that were kitten about spending $60 to get what they thought would be an MMORPG, and instead got whatever this game is trying to be. And the only time I come to these forums is when I’m bored at work, I just think it’s funny because Anet hasen’t actually solved a single problem with the game since it’s release they have only managed to kitten more people off.
I think the game is at best ok. It will suffice for casual players that like to donk around around here or there but if you love MMO and they are your main game this game just doesnt cut it . The leveling and world are great but the is a really big lack of game dirrection at lvl 80.
At 80 presently you have killed the main big bad dragon, you can now pvp or grind dungeons(bad in lore and design) that to most are not that fun for pretty looking items.
I love this game as well, especially the fantastic art style, lore and ‘feel’ of the world.
In fact I like almost everything about GW2, with the notable exception of those horribly corny personal storylines – that emotionless garbage is such a contrast to the rich atmosphere presented throughout the rest of the world!
Combat-wise it feels quite different to other MMORPG’s I’ve played, refreshing. My main character is at 80 now, but I’m a long looooong way from running out of things to do. I’m the type of player that likes to explore everything, reading the quest text or books to slowly find out more about the world, so I can’t see myself losing interest anytime soon.^^
It’s a staggeringly beautiful game full of stuff to do, with great PVP.
You could ask for raids, which GW2 does not have, and better lore (like TSW) – but everything else it does head and shoulders above any other MMO.
The game had a rough start, that’s it. I think that the worst is already behind us and that the game will get only better and better.
The problem is, MMORPGs only get one chance. There hasn’t been a single one that has “recovered” from a rough start. They tumble down hill and settle into a playerbase size at a fraction of what they expect, and then the devs have to change their content plans accordingly.
I’m quite confident that GW2 is not the success that Anet wanted it to be out of the gate, and are adjusting resource allocation (staff and money) to produce content in line with their actual revenue – not their original design plan.

The insane amount of content for each event they put out contradicts your weird belief.
If anything they are adding resources for GW2, we even know that they are hiring more people for Arenanet.
No other game manages to put out as much as GW2 has in just a couple of months: huge new areas, jumple puzzles, game modes, weird music-thing events, snowball fights, halloween sPVP maps, a new level 80 zone, new fractals dungeon with like 10 different bits, new sPVP map, etc etc etc
It seems their resouces are kind of limitless right now, look at all the stuff they are throwing out there.
I just wish some of it stayed in the game rather than being pulled out again. And instead of such a ridiculously large amount of new content for PVE, I wish they would spend more doing PVP stuff like spectator mode, rankings, ladders etc.

Raids would be a good step in the right direction (this game lacks any team play for an MMO).
But I’m afraid the combat systems and class synergies just would not support it as they currently stand. With no roles not to mention a weak buff/debuff system and chaotic “free for all” combat… it wouldn’t be pretty.
They would have to overhaul the entire game for raids to work… it just isn’t worth it, but its sorely missing.
I’m kind of “over” raiding.
It used to be something in the old days of 40/25man raids. But 90% of raiding guilds in WoW are now 10-man. Most games have that sort of raid size now.
No one wants to do 25+ because it’s messy and zergy. Success is more decided by roster management and guild management than by actual skill or fun gameplay.
10-man raids are only 2x a dungeon size of 5. Not a major thing really.
This is my opinion, and my opinion alone (although others may share the same opinion at will).
Best MMO ever.
No, I’m not a dev yet, but if ArenaNet ever gets themselves a mainframe and needs someone to develop on it they can feel free to give me a call. (Hey, NOTHING crunches data better than a mainframe still!)
10-man raids are only 2x a dungeon size of 5. Not a major thing really.
Not a major thing? It’s double. Thats a 100% increased inclusion of people in your guild – your team. Critical for an MMO, no?
They need large scale, organized group PvE content in this game for the long haul. But the combat system needs to be re-worked for that to happen.

the combat systome wouldn’t need a rework the encounter would just need to split you into smaller groups that still need to communicate.

Why is it that because someone post a positive post it’s has to be an undercover dev?
Does this mean any negative posts are posted by undercover Blizzard agents looking to sabotage Arena nets forum?

It’s great that folks like the game…. but it’d be nice to know what Anet did right in your opinion; it’s more informative for devs to know what people are liking/disliking rather than generalized feelings about the game as a whole.
been playing this game sins lounch almost all the freaking time….. havnt done that since EQ1
It’s great that folks like the game…. but it’d be nice to know what Anet did right in your opinion; it’s more informative for devs to know what people are liking/disliking rather than generalized feelings about the game as a whole.
Like:
- The graphics, although Far Cry 3 has much more detail, it doesn’t have the artistic merits that GW2 has, GW2 is like Dishonoured in that sense, very inspired and stylised – overall one of the prettiest games ever made
- The music – the morrowind guy is a genius and his music is just incredible, even the xmas tunes are worth listening to outside the game
- The game meta, skills, animations, the condition/boon system and the combo system, fantastic, deep and quick combat that even now most people simply do not master (gotta love how deceptively simple it is with only 1 hotbar)
- The PVP, it’s just by far the best and most balanced MMO PVP there is, getting very close to a stable and competitive MOBA type metagame
- The overall gameplay and classes: it all just works well and plays fantastically, better than any other group game out there and much more fun than the tired old trinity system that puts all complex tasks on tanks/healers and turns DPSers into sad pixel-hungry fools who think making an on-screen number bigger makes them better somehow.
Dislike:
- Too much focus on PVE stuff, not enough focus on WvW and sPVP/tPVP changes – PVEers have already had so much stuff designed for them, PVPers deserve their turn(s) with lots of improvements
- The lore: it’s ok for what it is, but compared to games like TSW which has a fantastic and quite clever lore, it’s generic dragons and undead stuff, though most of fantasy is like that in a way and it’s still better than pandaland etc xD
- The lack of raids: minor one this, but I do think they could quite easily add 10-man raids with not much additional work, and it wouldn’t hurt anyone as the rewards would just be the same dungeon tokens but for 10 people
- PVP needs more game modes: xmas event shows that capture the flag mechanics work great in GW2, we could do some of that
- Lack of ladders, rankings, spectator mode etc – we need this stuff!
- No UI/systems for large groups, just seeing health bars and frames is enough, just something to see all the other people around you and get an idea of what’s going on with them
(edited by xiv.7136)
Agreed. And what more when January and February rolls in?
(Hoping the world won’t end on 12/21/2012 because of Zhaitan)
People get bored because they are the type of people that do not wish to invent new ways to have fun/play. If they can’t grind for stuff or do repetitive activities over and over or exploit something for their benefit, they complain or quit at the expense of others as I stated the true problem in the game in another thread to be:

Help players in their story… (a bit if karma for doing it with them) teach people the game (more valuable than gold, because you make new friends and chances are they will help you in kind with gear/materials/etc). Its what I do to compensate for something that is wrong and not come here and spend my days complaining. “I have patience do you?” we should ask the whiners.
no…NO, NONONO NOOOOO!
You don’t take legitimate complaints of shortcomings with the inherent design of the game that in many eyes need to be fixed and then come at it with a response like this and think it washes.
Sure, I could dedicate my time to turning this game into a giant collection simulator or to roleplaying a drunken wino in Lion’s Arch, and whilst that might keep me amused even potentially to no end, it still won’t make the game itself suck less “chestnuts roasting on an open fire”
Also, this game isn’t friendly because the grouping offers no incentive aside from “put up with the 5 sig warrior being on his rear all the time” the combat lacks depth and then to oppose that the enemy encounters are badly tuned, meaning many don’t want to bother with that boss that cheeses you when they can just farm CoF which has better gear in terms of aesthetic appeal anyways and now FoTM for ascended gear. Add in the whole no waypoints in one dungeon or the entire load of horse manure you’ve to go through just to get into Arah when it wasn’t bugged and now what have you got? a huge mess, but I like the dev in charge of dungeons and I think he’s gonna over time make them a lot better and add great new ones he got a lot of flak and doesn’t deserve it as it probably wasn’t his fault if truth be known, but having said that your answer to that is simply “well do something else”
So let’s take that golden advice and try something else, crafting… oh that’s right that’s a waste of time aside from levelling, SPVP lacks structure outside tSPVP so it’s just random crazy sauce there with bunkers. Wpvp, well that’s a culling disaster isn’t it.
so after trickling down the options, and not going for the insanely asinine
“We’ll just don’t do it then” which is as vapid a response as it gets.
Let’s all realise that the “light and glory” we’re seeing is a dingy old train with a powerful lamp that blinds you at first til you adjust, then you see the lack of real substance, and stating “make your own fun” is like saying
“Sure, the games not fun inherently, but your imagination is” golfclap
To which I can only reply, thank you captain states the obvious, that still doesn’t negate the complaints.
Sarcasm…or an undercover dev?!
