Not so much FFA in my eyes, but world PvP.
I would love to see a server with the option of hostile factions. The Charr don’t like the Humans, let them fight! I think fighting over lands would be fantastic; the ganking and fighting with your allies would make the game so much more satisfying.
It’s the one thing I really miss from Zorld of Zorcraft. I was on a PvP server, and fighting others while questing, traveling, and advancing your character was one of the most FUN parts of the game.
And no, WvW doesn’t really do it for me.

Ah now this is something I could get behind, sadly I doubt GW2 would implement something like this due to various obvious reasons.
I was in a dungeon group with a guy about 1 week ago. Lets call him John. During the run, the group had no idea what to do on a certain part close to the end of the dungeon. Instead of stopping and explaining to ensure success, John chose to cuss our groups with words I will not repeat on the forums, call us n00bs, scrubs, and then did the worse thing one can do. He disbanded the group. Now we had 2 hours of time wasted (Yes it was a crappy group of new people, but we were all new at some point), would have to repeat the run to get the same reward.
These kind of people make more PVErs quit than the lonely griefer outside of newb town in a PVP game. At least in a PVP game, I could write John’s name on a scrap of paper and find him. And grief him. He would behave much better next time I am sure.
Very sorry to hear that. But really, that is exactly the kind of player you’ll most likely meet on FFA servers. True pve players would understand communication and teamwork is the key to success and to put people before themselves. What you had to deal with is the residual remains of a griefer being only able to grief players any more effectively than this.
We’re only as strong as our weakest link and that is how it affects all the servers if a ffa server was put in place.
I.e leave FFA for a game which is designed for it.
Personally, I would prefer if this guy killed my toon 3 times on the way to the dungeon than did what he did. 1 week later i am STILL bitter at his action, in a PvP game I would repair my armour and forget about it. In worse case I would hunt him down myself and revenge.
In my personal experience, I’ve witnessed the complete opposite actually. I guess it would also depend on the maturity of the game’s community but it is difficult to compare directly, as every game have their share of kids and people who cannot communicate.
On FFA game: Those kind of Johns knew that this behaver will get them on someone’s “naughty list”, and they learned very fast that if they step on the wrong set of toes they will suffer severe consequences (all in game of course). They also knew that they may proc a WAR with a strong guild vs their peaceful guild. They knew that if they get known for this behaver no good guild will want them in, as it ruins their own image and will drag them into wars.
On the other hand, players learned that team work and communication was more essential than anything. That you would learn after the 1st time you get ganked. You suddenly become more aware of other players, of their actions. Without those skills you can’t survive. The game was a major grind fest and every death was very costly. That skill of observation develops through the entire game experience into team-work habits GW2 players can only dream of. People made guild parties to grind in open world, because they knew together they stand a chance to fight off war-tags. They knew that if they acquire a bad reputation, they would be denied of good guilds and good quality friends.

That is what Aion did. Sadly Ncsoft messed it up by not staying on top of faction balance. The game had tremendous potential, but when Ncsoft realised that they need to balance the 2 factions it was sadly too late
Again, no one if forcing you to join a FFA server, don’t like the rule set, done play, as for looting, I said non bound items, that being unequipped BoA items, karma, small coin or crafting items.
So wait, you’re saying 99% of people shouldn’t play FFA…and then wondering why ArenaNet doesn’t make a FFA server. LOL.
It always amazes me how oblivious “hardcore” PvP-gankers are.

Where did this 99% statistic come from? have you asked 100% of the player population, calculated the numbers and came up with this? I am sure you did.
In a game with a loot system like in this one, such a thing is more or less not possible. Did you actually play or investigate about the Darkfall game for example?
Let me explain quickly: the gear in that game (as opposed to this one) does not matter that much at all, the majority of stuff you get there is from your character, the gear just fills gaps AND the gear there can be mass produced for a relatively low effort. In such an environment (where you basically will craft up 10 sets of your preferred gear so you can just equip the next set upon death) its ok for the game to be based on a “you keep what you kill” mechanic because even a new player will know what to expect and go craft up a few sets of gear in the event he/she is dead.
In gw2 that is neither possible nor easy to achieve, not without major redesigns to allow such gameplay (which would make the game pvp/siege driven, and not pve progression driven). Right now if you want a full dungeon set, inluding weapons (so 6x armor parts + 2-3 weapons) you need to spend 2900 dungeon tokens, and if you do each path once per day you will get ~200 tokens (3×60 + a few from the bags) or ~260 tokens for Arah since it has 4 paths. Even in a good group, that usually plays together and has a pre-set equip and knows how to run efficiently that, 3 paths will still take 45-60 minutes for AC, more for harder dungeons. So that is ~15 days of farming for 1 dungeon set, and then you die, and loose it all….it would be a QQ heaven what you propose….
@Hantu:
Can u tell or show me where Arenanet said their game ist a pure or mainly pvp game? Don’t blame Arenanet or others form u Tod believe some people who said this will be a pvp-game. It never has been sold as one.
@ threatstarter:
There is just a small problem with your wish: i highly doubt that there is a group of people big enough even for just one FFA Server. There are games out there with FFA rules: Moral online, age of conan, tera online….. well Most of them don’t have playerloot. And all of them have a rather small playerbase. Do i really have to tell u what ist a big reason why them are not so well populated?
And One thing i would linke to know: why do u need to take away stuff from other players? Why isn’t it enough to get loot from players in WwW (generated not taken from them)?
You want a fullloot MMO where u can take stuff from others? I highly recommend u to play “The WarZ”.
Again: i am not against One Server with FFA rules. I personally won’t play on those and i see no real chance that this will happen ever.

Experience playing other games where FFA gankers got their way and had a server created for them so it could be shut down a few months later. Heck, most people don’t even regularly participate in normal PvP…it’s not a leap to conclude that the vast majority of people don’t want to have completely 1-sided PvP forced upon them while they are trying to enjoy the other parts of the game.
This has come up before. And last time it was the same, a lot of PvE players that were incredibly against the idea of a “PK server”
It makes no sense to me. It would be a new server, no one would force you to join, why are you so against a PvP server?
Waste of resources, duh.

The 1st example is the very front page of their web site:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/
Guild Wars 2 defines the future of online roleplaying games with action-oriented combat, customized personal storylines, epic dynamic events, world-class PvP, and no subscription fees!
Competitive Play for Everyone
Competitive play in Guild Wars 2 is easy to learn, but offers challenges for new players and hardcore PvPers alike. In Player vs. Player matches, small teams of players battle over maps packed with objectives, while in World vs. World, armies of hundreds of players from competing servers wage war across four sprawling maps.
On a different note, the taking stuff away from players is not necessary at all. I would be happy if they at least let me hit someone. There could no reward in killing a player at all for all I care
Griefing isn’t PvP nor is it competitive.
I feel your pain brother. I played Ultima Online for many years and still would if the player base was bigger and the graphs a bit better. Anyways, i miss the good old days, where you always had to watch yourself for player killers (PKs) and a chance of being looted.
Thy gold or thy life, knave.
And people wonder why DayZ is so popular.

They didn’t lie. You enter the WvW area, and it’s permanent, full faction vs faction PvP as long as you stay there, and you can level a character from 1 to 80 in there. And the matches are in too.
It’s not because you can’t satisfy your need to gank defenseless newbies that ANet lied on the product – GW2 is exactly what they said it would be.
We don’t even have dueling and you want A.net to spend resources on a whole FFAPvP server? Seriously? with this game’s mechanics?
You are aware that development costs time and money? You are aware that they can’t just change the rules on one server?
It’s fine to wish for unrealistic things, but seriously, you need to realize it isn’t as simple as plugging in a $1200 blade and calling it a day. Even if it were (and it’s not) it would be a crappy experience, and A.net would still be right to laugh at this idea. And if you tell me you don’t care if it’s a crappy experience, then why aren’t you playing an existing game that has FFA pvp?
This is a laughable idea.
Getting ganked, then having your house robbed in UO was a cathartic experience.
I wish more of that happened now.
This G rated fluff belongs on consoles.
Griefing isn’t PvP nor is it competitive.
I dislike grievers just as much as the next person, and is the reason I want a FFA server, to hunt down and own them, to me it’s just added fun, let look at it like this, we get grieved by NPC’s , but because it’s a human this bothers you lol?
Player vs Players is just that, there are many forms of PvP and like I stated I dislike those grievers but IMO this gives the world a gaming survival of the fittest feel and creates server politics, WvW is fun but lacks the survival feel & politics because you can’t even see your enemies names, I like to know my enemies by name, who to watch out for, who’s a griever, who’s a good person ect. to me those things bring PvP alive and creates a gaming community full of adventure and fun for years to come.
Now if you want balanced team PvP we have SPvP for that, all I am asking for is a server where we can have a true role playing PvP experience, PK, Anti-PK, grievers, and the politics that come with it.

Lol Omg that’s nuts, I never playerd UO I played Asheron’s call, even thought we had full looting and a full world there was one safe zone, that was the player & guild housing.
Man I heard so many things over the years about UO’s PvP , never playing it one of my gaming regrets, I started MMO gaming back in 1999 although I could of jumped right in to UO I prejudged UO because it wasn’t full 3d, so I decided to try out AC and got sucked in so bad I never wanted to play another MMO other then EQ1.

Yes we need dueling BAD, such a simple concept I don’t know why in the world A-net thought this wasn’t a must have game feature in a game such as GW2.
1 word : Dueling.
Implement it Arena net!

I’m the same way with AC . Never played. Wanted to give it a try.
But no one I knew at the time played or was willing to give it a shot.
So we stuck our noses into Britannia, and got exactly what we asked for.
