This is actually a decent engine character customization. The video speaks for itself. This is what we expected for guild wars 2, there are added three haircuts and also paying gems? Players or just business?

Sorry but tinkering all that stuff doesn’t interest me at all. GW1 did everything I needed in terms of character customization.

Star Trek Online had a better character creator though, design your own race…

I like how you neglect the fact that APB had to be relaunched because the previous company was in financial distress, let alone APB has pretty poor reviews.

But hey, if you want a game strictly for character customization, knock yourself out.

Actually, GW2 can learn a lot from APB regarding PvP and open world, identical maps created when the players number is reached, etc
But hey, APB has pretty poor reviews

the question is not to compare one game to another, the meaning of the post is that for a level playing guild wars 2, the character customization system is pretty poor, and this has been talked about since the beta version.

I do love having an awesome character creation. However, GW2’s isn’t that bad. It could be better for sure. It’s loads better than Wildstar’s. My god that character creation is so bad I can only pray that will will update it and add more things.

Ah, APB. I loved that game so much, too bad hackers, poor performance and cash shop and rental weapon stuff craps all over the fun. I loved the character customization. :P Totally different art style than GW though.

…and those dumptrucks… The griefing in that game were some of the most hilarious experiences I ever had. :x

Maybe that one is even a little exaggerated, but I’ve been repeating for so long how this game needs a full update to its customization that I got sick.
The customization isn’t good, as long as wherever I walk, I find 200000 clones of my character and I notice that some NPCs have more unique features than my character.

I would love to see how the same APB character creation engine would work with the other 4 races, maintaining nearly the same amount of customization to all races.

Charter Vanguard [CV] – HoD
Bardy Belzebuson – Ranger Sir Belzebu – Herald
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)

OP isn’t discussing another developer’s financial health. OP isn’t discussing another game’s reviews. OP is discussing character creation as it related to Guild Wars 2. Do try to stay on topic.

Wow, never played that game but that vid of the character looks decently robust compared to here. I did play Aion though and that one was probably one of the better ones that I have toyed around with.

More options is always better in my book. Lends to more individuality and personality being put into each character I think.

Same could be said about the emote situation. Even GW1 had many more. Wouldn’t mind some more being put in. Something like the air instruments from GW1, Audible emotes like in other games. If they really wanted to get crazy with it, put in dance routine that can be shared between all races….something that works better than the book consumable they have now, eg;
racial: /dance =racial dances we have now
racial1: /dance1= each race gets part of a dance routine that looks best when performing together with each of the other races.

Back to topic: I know since launch they have added hairstyles and face options so I think that Anet would like us to have more options within their particular system which actually isn’t all that different from the first game cept now you have body types.

Wouldn’t mind some more tattoo options between the races. That scar and hair feature in the vid would do wonders for me here.

I think the blocks this game was built on was not an entirely new game but a continuation of the first. The combat, traits/skill system and even the art is a bit different from the first game, but I can definitely see where the games are similar.

Oh wow this is funny. I played APB: Reloaded. The character customization is actually way more limited than it seems and dated if you ask me. It is superficial. Also it is blocked by a paywall: no thank you I do not want this in Guild Wars 2. Not to say that it is a bad one, far from that. But it is not the best and I think it’s unfair to compare it to Guild Wars 2, the two are way too different. One thing that should be noted is that the symbol creator of APB:R is amazing and absolutely unique but hard to master, props.

A better example (only in terms of complexity which is what you are bringing up in the first place) would have been EVE online’s character creator, now that is some beast but it has it’s weakness too: you cannot see your character ingame (I think there is the exception of on a certain ship station, I do not know exactly) and you cannot see other’s characters either because EVE online is about other things yes but also because of performance limitations.

I do think that we should have had a bit more sliders to tweak more precisely some aspects of the faces and more option choices in hair/faces/tattoos/hears/etc. But also it is not problematic. Let’s talk about it in 3+ years.

as I said this is not a game to compare with another but suggest greater versatility in customizing. And in this video are aspects that could be included.

The sliders for body, hair and the freedom to put a tattoo or scar on a particular site would be the key to the character customization that much better.

APB – fantastic character generator with a GODAWFUL game that you have to suffer through.

Months of grind for full unlocking of content. Pay to win. Plus it is currently being harassed constantly by DDOS attacks.

Avoid.

I have not proposed that this is so … they only take the positive part adding sliders to various aspects of guild wars system which are very improved.

A little bit more in the character creation would be better for sure. But too much is like not enough. If you get lost in the character selection, have too much information or too much choice, most people won’t feel comfortable with the game. Its a important first impression especially for RPG (MMO like Single Player) and personally i felt that GW2 character creation did the job just well.

Since most of my character face and body are covered by an armor and i see them from the back, i would rather prefer more Armor and gear customization over character customization. The only thing that i truly think miss for the character customization, its for tattoo. There have really limited possibility. Other than i prefer that they add account wide dyes, more good looking armor piece or weapons and a dye system for the weapons.

I agree OP. I don’t like the presets in GW2, it seems like there’s many body types that look almost identical to the next, and you can’t even see properly how they’re going to look in game.

“meta” this, “meta” that. Please stop saying the word “meta”.

The same armor in different bodies is not just obviously also not everyone’s face is obscured by armor and it is important to customize many people as it is the character that you play long.

I agree that dyes have weapons and they broaden the range of armor.
