This is the worst PVE event ever for GW2
its really disappointing and disheartening. the events are zero fun. i had a friend join ftp and was going to run around with her for these events…too embarrassed to even try now.
they just dropped this junk on top of the existing maps. the other events are still running while the mordrem are invading?… didn’t anybody plan or play this stuff before pushing it out?
Thanks anet! more mind numbing content for the autoattackers! yay! everybody run from A to B tagging critters, and collect loot! (only if you are not bugged)
open world is laughable.

I don’t know… out of everything wrong and broken with the event, my favorite thing was watching a convoy of Bandits wandering into the middle of a horde of dragon minions, apparently without a single care in the world. It made my day.

:D..i literally couldn’t believe they didn’t change anything. mordrem are invading and the map is still running normal event chains.

The dredge, centaurs, bandits, and others are in league with the mordrem. At least that’s how I look at it.
Between this fiasco and the BWEs that were not really exciting, and probably too bugged to be called beta (broken chain events galore!), I’m seriously worried about the expansion.
What worries me is the fact that there were people in /m talking about how much fun they are having doing it and that they don’t even care about getting no rewards. Are people really so easily entertained? This is the epitome of terrible gameplay.
nah this aint the worst by a long shot clearly you where not around for the karka queens first apearance
I sadly have to agree that this event wasn’t so well thought out. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy the game, but this event was.. well, not what I expected. It doesn’t feel special or fun, and sometimes I can’t even get to the enemy because their health bars melt away like a stick of butter in the sun. Not to mention that some of the rewards seem near impossible to achieve…
This event is based heavily on the Scarlet Invasions. It has some arguable improvements (mobs not dropping loot) and some odd design cuts (no end boss?). I think it’s better than it’s predecessor overall and has some interesting rewards. It could definitely still be improved upon (cutting all avenues for players to exploit rewards), but it’s hardly the worst pve event ever, in my opinion.

I had way more fun during the scarlet invasion
i think it probably qualifies as the worst because of the content drought between this and the last event. prior events may have been arguably as bad but they were following relatively fresh content.
this stuff is the first content we have seen in roughly a year…and frankly it should have been really really good-not just for vets but for all the ftp players as well. the event stinks..its boring..broken…no thought put into it.
Can someone tell me where i can find the usual description of the event and the rewards and stuff? I couldnt find it on the update page or new releases.

Mobs not dropping loot is far from an improvement. If they don’t drop loot then that’s one less benefit and incentive players have and waste a perfectly good opportunity to salvage blue, green, and yellow gear we collect.

There was a problem with the Scarlet Invasions that was pretty obvious. When events scaled, all people did was farm champs and ignore completing the map event. The same behavior was present with several other events in the game. Anet noticed this and, most likely, designed the Silverwastes events and other meta events around the idea that you only get rewarded for playing as intended, i.e. completing everything. How do you combat that sort of player behavior while still allowing loot to drop? This solution isn’t perfect but it’s definitely a solution to one behavioral issue. Players still get rewarded at the end of the event and can work toward their goal of buying items from the vendor. If new players want blues and greens there are plenty of other events to go around, but that’s not the point of the event at the moment.
I think my expectations were too high, I was kinda hoping for something like the corrupted event (Sylvari hints) pre-release with new rewards to kick off GW2 first expansion.

As much as I hate to invade on your circle-jerk, I had to at least say that not everyone plays games for rewards alone. Obviously this is an alien concept to you, but true, whether you believe it, or not.
I probably worded it wrong. I’m not saying it’s worrying that they are playing without rewards. I’m saying that the content is not fun and it doesn’t even have rewards. Where some people will trudge through boring content just for rewards where this content doesn’t have rewards or fun.
I mostly play without rewards in mind. I don’t ever farm for gold or anything. I don’t do content just because it rewards a lot of gold or anything. I simply do the content I find fun. If this event was fun I would play it. If it was boring and it had good rewards I would still unlikely do it. I mean, I might do some of it to get the selfless potion, but I won’t enjoy it.
a event where you must spend gold to get rewards. is not worth doing at all. not only that but with no drops of loot from kills is not worth doing even more so when there is no extra special items being dropped from the said event . all together not worth the doing of this event at all . nor worth wasting time on a useless event .
This event is a snoozefest, but I wouldn’t go as far as say it’s the worst PVE content ever. It’s not even close to the buggiest.

Sovereign weapons available during the Queen’s Jubilee cost gold as well as a Favor of the Pavillion. Just saying. There’s a precedent.
the vetting process for what makes its way into the live game needs a serious looking at.

that might be but i will be not spending gold in event items at all. nor will i take poor drops . when i get that from farming reg content . all together i revert back to my post . and the so called precedent you speak of is a very pour one at that .
Well, OP clearly wasn’t around for the Karka invasion of LA back in the day…

Frankly, I’m fine with throwing in gold for rewards. But this is an event largely marketed at new players, that costs gold, grants no XP, and consists almost entirely of the cosmetic stuff that new players are least interested in.
…what.

well you might be ok with tossing gold at event items . iam not and the offering of rewards is lacking . and that is true but yet iam sure this put a bad taste in the new players mouths too as well . and i bet the new players are just like us not happy with this event. but at lest one can still farm mats and so forth . and save up there gold for some thing good like oh i dont know maybe a new over priced dye or over priced skin from the trading post would be a much better choice then spending gold on a event with no good rewards. or any good drops from said event . that is just my take on doing this event . and so forth
I like the event – it’s basically scarlet’s invasion all over – grouping up with random people, running around a bit mindless while chatting – it’s good =)

Welcome to the F2P future of GW2
All there is to it is tagging mobs, hijacking a catapult sometimes, and this really poses no challenge. Not to mention that its bugged out, and we have no idea how many blooms we are SUPPOSED to get, as well as not getting any for possibly days/weeks.
Bad job arenanet. Simply really bad job.
A pre-cursor or foreshadow of the xpac??! Or was this just a bugged event…. I am really hopeful for raids and hard pve; but I’m thinking I should give it a month or two past release…

Playing as intended == running around and simply tagging a couple mobs to get a stack then moving on?

Like I said before: I haven’t been to that event when I made the comment, but we basically play for no reward in wvw – that was my point.

Have you been reading the forums during beta weekend? Some people were complaining that they were getting floored by the mobs in the Verdant Brink. I can personally attest that the group composition and mob design is better in the Maguuma Jungle. Some mobs (lookin at you Smokescales) are pretty crazy but not impossible. I’d say the future looks bright. Right now, the mobs in the invasion are scaled down and we have a bunch of scaled down level 80 players which are still OP for the zone level. I have no clue how raids are going to play out in practice but the trailer showed more than just tagging mobs and hijacking catapaults, so you may not need to worry.

I don’t agree with that logic. Should you stand on a box where a boss can’t hit you and damage it simply because the game allows it? Clearly, if everyone did what you are suggesting is what Anet intends, no events would get completed. None. And no one would get credit. So how is what you are suggesting what Anet intends?
Edit: Maybe you weren’t saying that was what Anet intended. Honestly, Anet is probably observing this behavior and will probably limit it in future events once they come up with a better method. I’m not saying I know why they chose the personal buff system, but it looks to me like they tried to incentivize completing events and dedicating yourself to a single map instead of map hopping for rewards which was another old issue they wanted to squish. They got the map hopping issue squished but not the event tagging issue.

Welcome to the F2P future of GW2
Mediocre content, bad rewards and failed design goals (lol @ this event being targetted at new players) have been part of the GW2 experience for a long time.
What worries me is the fact that there were people in /m talking about how much fun they are having doing it and that they don’t even care about getting no rewards. Are people really so easily entertained? This is the epitome of terrible gameplay.
Worried? You were actually worried because people were having fun when a loot pinata wasn’t involved? Not everyone defines “fun” in an online game as amassing as many pixels to brag about as you can get and scorning anything that doesn’t benefit you. (An online game IS supposed to be entertainment. You can be actually good at a game and still find ways to be entertained)
What amused me was all the whining about no loot in map chat…from the same people in all three maps. 3 hours of whines broken up by those having fun & linking wayponts during invasions.
What worries me is the fact that there were people in /m talking about how much fun they are having doing it and that they don’t even care about getting no rewards. Are people really so easily entertained? This is the epitome of terrible gameplay.
I honestly heard nothing but the opposite, in fact I often saw nothing more then “this better be worth it” type of comments.
Worried? You were actually worried because people were having fun when a loot pinata wasn’t involved?
No, they are worried that people are expressing joy at incredibly menial PvE content.
I can’t even count how many people I watched completely avoid the volatile mobs because a champ spawned simply because their brain clicked and went “OMG Champ Bag!!!” despite there being no champ bag to be had.
They were so conditioned to focus a gold medal tag they couldn’t even process that the last 10 they zerged down gave no loot or comprehend that focusing on the proper mobs will allow more events to be completed and thus give actual loot.
People scoff at “holy trinity” because tank and spank is too “boring” and “formulaic” but then flock to this kind of stuff like it’s somehow not those exact things itself.
Yeah I didn’t see anybody saying this is really fun. Saw a bunch of new people saying what are we suppose to be doing? Why are we running back and forth so much? What do we get for doing this for 30 minutes?…..oh nothing, we’ll I’m going back to starting zone then. That’s what I heard.

I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating:
It’s an event marketed to new players, that costs gold, gives no XP, and mainly rewards you with cosmetic end-game items. And I have no idea why.
I wouldn’t call the events themselves the “worst ever” because the base game had some horribly designed events, but as far as post launch releases go yeah, this is easily the worst I have ever seen, this is mediocre and that’s me being generous to it…
“The Mordrem Are Coming” article way overblew what this ended up being….I was expecting something like the Marionette, something to really get me excited…dissapointed…A shameful display Arena-net a shameful display…
I gotta say, I’m not having one bit of fun tagging and running in these events.
I can’t get immersed in the combat because I know that if I stay too long, I won’t have enough stacks when the timer is done and so I won’t be getting enough blooms because of it.
It would be better to simply have the events in specific sections of the map, which players would have to break apart equally (coordinating with commanders), and each group stay at that location only. Stacks should work in that specific location only, if you move to another location, you loose all of your stacks. This way players can actually get immersed in combat and not having to worry about skipping around the map so much.
Edit: Oh and tagging is an issue also when you have a big zerg going for the same mob.
(edited by JackDaniels.1697)
Yeah, this event is BAD as its designed.
-We spend more money than we get, the mobs drop nothing to recoup our losses waypointing to get the things.
-The Rewards cost too much to get compared to how LITTLE of the currency we need to buy it all we need. One complete round for the first time in a day takes you 3 hours and gets you 60 guaranteed Blooms from daily map reward, and then likely an average of 10 blooms per map for your stacks (if you’re lucky 15 blooms). So 90 Blooms Daily on just your first run for that day. Doing it only once each day gets you a total of 270 blooms (this is devoting 3 hours of time playing GW2 to get, including the 30 minute breaks) or 360 if you got your blooms from before the patch went in. Then on average for every additional run after that you’ll get 30 blooms for every 3 hours of time devoted after that. Which means at a minimum, if you wanted to get the best reward, you need to devote at least 18 hours of time in game waiting for these events to pop. This does not include the apparently hour long break after the third round. And then on top of that you have to pay 10 gold. For only one of the big prizes, if you want the other one you have to add another minimum of 45 hours to get assuming you do other things in those large breaks between the rotations. And that’s ignoring the Armor Skins which anyone who likes armor would want.
-This event was advertised as a way to get new players involved in the game. Mission Failed. New players can’t possibly afford to participate in this event. Not only that, but because of how much this event is costing us vets and how much GRINDING we are expected to do, we aren’t having fun and certainly have little desire to recruit people while doing this unfun event.
The worst? I can’t see how it can be worst than the southsun event.
Yes, letting the existing events run during the invasion is confusing and frustrating.
I would repeatedly find myself fighting an ettin or something instead of a mordrem in all the chaos.
The original Southsun?
It was laggy because of hardware limitations, and it upscaled harshly. But it was at least an interesting fight if you had a good connection. And it actually gave decent rewards at the time for the time they asked you to invest. Plenty of people got Precursors at that event and we all got a free exotic trinket and a 20 slot box (which most didn’t have) at the time.
Boring zergfest with crappy rewards for time invested. Did it once, 32 events done, 25 rewards, not worth it for 30 minutes of work.
living story was so much better

lol just an ettin?
One of the events in the SE corner of Kessix Hills is in the middle of a spawn for a Toxic Alliance Blossom event.
Attempting that is to know true pain.
