The event in my eyes is a waste of time, no rewards, and for those who are getting rewards, nothing worth while at exchange vendor, the event feels like a fill in to keep players occupied while the expansion comes out, lol.

Got back while being away for a little bit. Tried this event and can tell its pretty bad. Have to be really quick to tag mobs or waste silvers using way points only to find by the time you reach the mobs, they are dead.

That,s because you are bad. Don’t get me wrong but if you can’t tag mobs and always running too late at events, that’s on you. We did some testing my friends and I and on our try first maps we always got between 20 and 30 stacks. Hell even while I do the even as intented I also get 10+

Honestly, thinking about it, I am tempted to agree. And there’s a lot of good about it, but the way a single comparatively small but core mistake (the way loot is handled, both in those seeds and the lack of anything else) drags everything about it so far down makes it win out versus even the first living story patch.

At least that patch had two things going for it:

  • We were hyped for what came after.
  • It was shortly after game release, ANet could viably do the “We had no idea”-thing.
The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

The majority of people in the zergs I was in last night only got 10-12 stacks. Most mobs were dead after the first or second hit, if you managed to hit them at all. Meh. I went back to leveling alts.

Why do you follow the zerg then? Small group of around 10 do the event faster and it’s easier to get it done. You can even get 20 stacks using this method if the group is good.

Ok based on one encounter, didn’t find this fun at all.

Gameplay consisted of running around, getting to the battle point, then trying to do damage to mobs that died before you could even move towards them, or doing damage to something you had no idea you where attacking. Overall I despite trying very kittenly ended up merely tagging mobs before moving on to the next splash of colour.

Did highlight that Anet need to fix their target system, in the mass of ‘colour’ it is almost impossible to know what you are hitting (or that you are within range of something to do any damage) – for example instead of a red arrow above a red name tag, how about a blue arrow and maybe a bit larger, at least give customers the choice. This is a common game problem that turns up elsewhere, and really what is the harm in fixing it.

The previous LA Invasions etc I found to be a lot better and more enjoyable, because you could SEE what you were doing. This was close to pointless – despite doing very little damage I ended up with 25 blooms, some maybe some folks are smarter than others.

That said I suspect the events were bugged, as I am sure some of the mobs basically depop with little damage done to them.

The lack of battle rewards seemed fair to me, as this is always a baggage pain and never feels right during the fighting or as you run to the next colour splash.

Might also add that as I have pre-ordered I started a Azure character with my ‘free slot’ and the contrast between ‘this’ and the delightful Azure low levels is shocking.

I didn’t find the event fun. I don’t usually worry about rewards, I just play the game because I enjoy it. But I had been looking forward to the event and I was very disappointed. Even teaming up with guildies didn’t make it better — no fun and no drops.

Once I finished with the event, which I think I mentioned I didn’t enjoy, I went to the vendor to see the offerings only to find there was nothing new — old living story rewards that cost not only event tokens but also gold. Pfffft…

Not fun, not profitable, more a gold sink than rewarding.

The best thing about the event was the way the vine crawlers spit the mordrem out. That was cool. That was funny

I didn’t follow the zergs, I followed the icons on the map. There was either a zerg already there or they would show up shortly afterwards. There are only so many events happening at any given time. Either way, the events grew stale pretty quickly.

Worse yet, since you don’t get experience and gold, many of the new players coming from mostly the f2p switch of GW2 will:

- be wondering why they should bother with this event
- submit massive amounts of “I’m buged and not getting exprience” tickets
- will not be able to purchase any of the interesting skins anyway since those are locked behind 10 gold even if you grinded the tokens
- get a very wrong impression (or maybe a correct one, which is even more scary) of how events usually work which leads to them leaving the game or making wrong (or correct, brrrrr) assumptions about HoT

Classic right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing situation from Anet.

Surprised people are even motivated to partake in this event to be honest. How they still feel its fine to regurgitate this brain dead content I don’t know. Yeah they are ‘focused on HoT’ but come on man this is just beyond basic they could at least apply some new mechanics.

Personally I’d rather they didn’t release ‘new’ content at all before HoT if it’s going to be recycled event tagging like this… back to dungeons and fractals

?? They mostly worked on HoT, not released much that could failed. The specialisation update was good. Some issue but overall an improvement. The golem rush was nice, but a very small event. The end of LS2 was good IMO, some people like and other don’t , but that’s a matter of opinion. It wasn’t a fail. The LA events with karka and the JP was SOOO nice. We went through it in a couple of hours but we did it in a group of 20 and it was a blast. Same with the JP in Silverwaste.

A quiet year of low quantity of content while they work on the expansion. There was some failed like the current event or the karma booster, but overall it wasn’t a year with string of failure.

Justifiably too. If they set out to create an event where the most selfish behavior is rewarded then they succeeded admirably. However this MMO was suppose to be different and as such is still was advertised as a group friendly game. This event in essence has set us back to the tagging mob days of WoW.

Adding to this is the “new player experience” of no loot and no experience and you are telling new players that unless you are willing to grind 24/7 then you will not even get any good rewards. Unless they change the drops/rewards drastically I cannot see many players, old or new, bothering with this event for the weekend; I know I won’t.

But that’s worst because it was a desert of content and all we have is this event. I don’t mind the fact that the events themselves ain’t that great. They ain’t that bad either. I don’t even mind the reward bugs at the beginning, it can happen and they fixed it rather quickly. But what I do mind is some obvious fail like.

- Incentivize the leeching because otherwise it’s almost impossible to get the max reward.
- All the reward is at the end so you need to finish the 30min or you get nothing. For a casual event, you need more exit point. It’s just game design 101. The more hardcore the less exit point you need, the more casual the content, the more exit point you need.
- DC will wipe all your advancement. Again to the point of more exit point.
- The amount of loot isn’t worth the effort. No xp, no karma, no drops and only the daily map are worth the blooms and crates.
- The duration of the event is way too low to allow people to get what they want. Will there be more of these event in the future? We don’t know.

Those are OBVIOUS design/communication flaws. Serious designers shouldn’t make those mistake.

First things is, not everyone complaining about how unrewarding this event is, has been raging for months because of no new stuff. I’m sure there are plenty of people who dislike the way this event has been handled and didnt rage about the content drought.

Second thing is, people are allowed to voice their discontent when something isn’t to their liking for a product they spent money on, i’m not saying anet has to bend to their will or anything like that, but people are allowed to voice their opinions on the product. this is nothing new. And just because this is the first event in a rather long time does not mean people aren’t allowed to share their discontent about the nature of the event that was added. This coming after a drought of content doesn’t make it immune to critiscism.

Though i do wish people would stop making new threads already and just post in the exisiting ones lol. (not necessarily reffering to this thread, but just a general notice :p)

It was more specifically about the point that they should have added new mechanics. New mechanics takes time and resources. Something that they most like can’t (and shouldn’t) spare this close to the release of an expansion.

Yes, although I’d prefer something closer in structure to the original invasions, it was meant to be a light hearted 4 day event. New mechanics should never have been expected.

I’m not saying they should add completely fresh brand new mechanics specifically just for this event because yeah, that would be a major waste of time. However, I think so close to HoT they could use this opportunity to test some of the new mechanics they’ve already developed for mobs outside of the BWE e.g. mobs being able to stealth and shadow step away etc. just adaptive mechanics that they already have at their disposal.

There is no point in me complaining nor arguing anyway, it’s happened now, just gotta hope the new content is worth the wait and will finally give me (and probably so many others) something else to do other than Fractals.

I am disappointed as well.

The rewards are very small.

The 30+ target for extra rewards is impossible to hit in that timegap…maybe you have a chance if you go completely against ethics and just go..tag a few mobs..and leave the other noobs to finish the event for you. Actually they encourage just “personal goals” not team work. That’s EXTREMELY disappointing of you ANet.

Most events finish before you get there…dafq so most of the time you are teleporting as a kitten allover at a chance to get there in time.

Some of the events don’t even give u the credit-buff. It happened to me several times (staying at the event from start to finish).

This whole event i can’t even consider being a beta event. It’s an early alpha event shoved down our throats.

If this is this the kind of stuff we will see in HoT……………….let’s just say i am even more skeptical now. Quality is dirt-low for this event. The “idea” of the event is good tho….but the world is filled with “great ideas” but only a handful can actually apply them correctly.

Here’s gonna be a shocker to your MMO-reward-driven mindset.

Sometimes… I mean, just sometimes… people can have fun without a tangible “reward” at the end. Sometimes it really IS the journey that’s more important than the destination.

Yes, I know… that runs completely contrary to the conditioning MMOs have driven into your skull over the last fifteen years. But it’s true. It really is.

Without leeching much? Dafq are u talking about? I just did an event with 21 (in the very last 5 seconds). You know what it took to do that? I LITERALLY leeched EVERY event possible. I went in…killed 3-4 mobs..went to the next…and so on. That’s it, and i BARELY made it.

ONLY if the end justifies the means.

The hero still wants the maiden at the end of the story
The hero still wants to be known as the man that killed the dragon
The hero still wants some form of recognition for his great deeds
The hero still needs to feel his effort was worth it even if only for the admiration of his peers

You get none of that here. What you will get is an empty feeling in both your wallet and your soul for spending 30 minutes uselessly.

If anything that is the opposite of what we should expect. They’ve had 10 months to polish and test this minuscule content, yet they deliver this frankly pile of crap to us. We went out on faith and put down $50 for an expansion that isn’t released, waited 10 months with no content at all, and looked forward to an event that Anet hyped up.

It is perfectly reasonable to be upset that this is what they delivered.

It actually would have been better for them to release no content instead of this. At least with no content they weren’t actively driving players away from the game.

Your argument would make sense if these events were any fun to play. For example, the Silverwastes events are pretty fun, and I also enjoyed the Verdant Brink previews even though I wasn’t being rewarded (temporary beta characters).

These events, however, are not fun to play, and also not rewarding, and are therefore doubly bad.

a event where you must spend gold to get rewards. is not worth doing at all. not only that but with no drops of loot from kills is not worth doing even more so when there is no extra special items being dropped from the said event . all together not worth the doing of this event at all . nor worth wasting time on a useless event .

Sovereign weapons available during the Queen’s Jubilee cost gold as well as a Favor of the Pavillion. Just saying. There’s a precedent.

that might be but i will be not spending gold in event items at all. nor will i take poor drops . when i get that from farming reg content . all together i revert back to my post . and the so called precedent you speak of is a very pour one at that .

There are so many events requiring gold in addition to other currency. We even have permanent versions of this in the Silverwastes. Just because only one example was offered, doesn’t mean there isn’t a precedent for it.

And no extra special items? Almost everything that is available was a very limited time offer before, some only a couple weeks. (I am of course excluding luck, sand, etc.) And they required a considerable time investment to unlock before as well.

This isn’t even new content. Just old, reskinned.

-Run a bomb to a giant plant to blow it up. Nah, that’s not toxic stalk.

- Giant plant is surrounded by generator or protectors that have to be destroyed. Nope, not toxic stalk at all.

- More zerging around the word. Yeah… that’s what we really, really want from you Anet. More content that trains people to just run in and faceroll enemies. Like we don’t get enough of that in Orr.

People would be happier if the devs would fix broken content instead of disabling it and adding in more broken content. Not to mention the rewards are garbage. If you’d add leveling tomes, you might get people interested because they have alts and their F2P friends would level with them.

I agree with ZudetGambeous. This sudden rush of be grateful for what you receive is lame. It’s the forums and if we don’t like something we can voice our opinions. Some people wasted 5 hours yesterday with a “fix” that didn’t roll out until reset. Then the “fix” was pretty terrible in itself and we’re still asked to continue stress testing just to receive some rewards that are gated completely from new players. NOPE! I’m sure there are plenty of “thank you for some content… finally” threads, this is not one of them.

Worst PVE event, yes!

If this is an example of whats to come in HoT, where individual events are unrewarding and the overall event is barely more than that then we are all in for a whole world of disappointment. I can’t even begin to understand what they were thinking. They took everything about the scarlet invasions that people liked and threw it away and made this.

Fun is a subjective thing. I personally played the new event once, and have not stepped back in it. But hey, that’s me.

Apparently there are some people enjoying this. Apparently the “bad gameplay design” is a non-issue for them. More power to them, I guess.

The 30+ target for extra rewards is impossible to hit in that timegap.

20 stacks give you the maximum rewards and you can do it without leeching much, even if you do have to leech a little if you know what you are doing.

Is this honestly the kind of mentality you want to see being promoted in your favorite mmo? Constant leeching?

No, it’s a terrible design that should never be in the game and shouldn’t be in the game in the future.

But there is a difference between needed +30 stacks and leeching everything.

Or

Needed 20 stack so I leech 15 events and then do between 5 and 7 events completely.

It’s bad, but less bad that you said. And It can be even better. If you have a group of less than 10 people that know what they are doing, you can complete near the 20 events legit, but that hard. Event overscale with a lot of people. With a small group it can be super fast. The 3 catapults almost never die, the booms go quicly and you can burst the vine with a shield in one shot. This way, events go SUPER fast.
