It’s pretty saddening too that pretty much the entire population is here and everything dies so fast that you get no loot and only a bronze… as an elementalist:

At least a couple of people had flaming greatsword. Why would that be? What use does flaming greatsword have when trash easily dies? Elementalist skills require charging, and by the time fireball charges groups of mobs are usually dead whereas flamesword’s ranged attack is instant. I also have a picture of people meteor showing corners before anything appears too.

Again, it’s sad when strategy and skill layout are geared towards tapping mobs instead of helping the group. Out of the many elementalists I’ve seen I have yet to see one who’s water and uses healing shower and ice ground. Why would that be? Because healing and utility just aren’t rewarded in these events.

Agreed. It’s not just Elementalists that have it rough in those events. Any profession that isn’t capable of quick and consistent mass mob tagging, won’t be getting drops at a decent enough rate to justify staying in that group. Also, if you’ve got a condition-based spec, it’s disheartening to know that the majority of your damage is getting ignored before it even lands. And for support, forget about it. There’s no incentive to support unless you’re actually in danger of failing, which is rare. Secondary and collateral skill effects tend to be all the support that’s ever needed.

They need to toughen up those trash mobs and have them scale more effectively with the amount of participation. Right now, they are getting smeared faster from AoEs, than I can acquire them as targets. At least bosses still tend to put up a long fight.

Dude, if you want rewards, you’re playing the wrong game apparently. Go to WoW, duh!

I’ll attempt to actually be helpful

From my limited experience as an elementalist doing DE’s, I have found that Septer MH Dagger OH is the best combo.

Use Air and Earth attunement…start in Air use #4 to jump into combat then quickly switch to Earth and use #4 followed by #5 from there just use #2 to protect yourself and then swap to Air when it is off CD and hit #5 to jump out of combat. From there I usually just use Air auto-attack and #2 to deal quick damage from a distance.

Using this method I have yet to get less then a gold on any DE I have done.

Edit: you could go Dagger/Dagger, but I like the Septer attacks better so that I can get out of melee when done with the Air/Earth/Air rotation.

That event chain does happen very fast, it unlocks Arah and most will try to plow through these events as fast as they can seeing they can still bug and gtlich out if its too slow. If at one point capping camp C or camp D takes too long, camp A or B will get attacked and sometimes it wont stop being attacked there for will not let you restart or finish the event, this bugs out the 2 temples the cannon and even make Arah stay locked and not let you in. Finsihing then as fast as you can, is best.

I remember the 1st time it was unbugged, zone was full and all you could hear was “FOR GREAT JUSTICE!!!” every 3 seconds for a good 45 minutes

This entire post!

“I remember the 1st time it was unbugged, zone was full and all you could hear was ‘FOR GREAT JUSTICE!!!’ every 3 seconds for a good 45 minutes”

I keep hearing it… all the time in Orr -_-

I’ll take the combo under consideration and I usually like Earth especially against heavy armored mobs as bleed ignores defense (great underwater especially with the long bleed skill) though I mostly stick with fire staff. I also switch to air whenever someone uses some guardian skill to scatter the mobs because it’s 1 ability has longer tap range and bounces off mobs whereas with fire they have to be closer together.

I think the problem is the nature of these events. They throw masses of standard mobs at a huge group….and that makes no sense.

If they wanted this to be challenging and make sense for a group of 50 players, they would have thrown a big group of VETERANS at the players instead. The regular mobs die in under 1sec after entering the AOE spam area.

there is a lot of things to balance in this game.

its true.

but its still a kitten amazing game.
as a standalone b2p its 200h of fun, and thats if you dont try pvp/wvwvvw much.

eventually, itll be better.

cant believe there is that many players in Orr yet.
definitely anet underestimated the hardcore nolifers sheet numbers.

That’s what we center our skills around by necessity. Not support, because healing and slowing gives no loot, not single target, because you’d only get one drop out of so many mobs, so we need fast AoEs and that’s a design flaw. There’s a whole game out there, true, but I was the only person at the pirate ship trying the dead sailor quest, and all I wanted was the discovery. I got silver for the event, and given I’m an ele who had to solo it =( It involved for me recovery kiting (i.e., when something’s chasing you and you’re still out of combat kite, dodge, and hope for the best), lay down AoE fields, target higher health mob, switch back to lower health mob when downed, rally, get swarmed, and die anyway.

There were at least some people by the ice elementals in the southwest corner, but still pales in comparison to the other part of the map I showed.

well, random is random.

ok.
gw2 MAIN appeal is the super majestic work of their artists/animators/sound guys.

as a game itself, combat is well done but the “big” picture need some adjustment.
to me its weird that anet designers didnt catch those problems. (and im not talking about minor bugs!)

all in all… in goes back tonthe dreaded word; endgame

gw2 is having an issue there, but we need to ask ourselves; is an endgame “required” ?

blizzard D3 couldnt nail it… and its blizzard “the creators of endgame”.

This is one of the few reasons why I try to avoid the camps at both ends of the tunnel, as well as the Historian Fia one. The spawn camping has to be addressed somehow. It just doesn’t seem right. Instead, there are many other events that you can take on if you’re after Karma more than loot.

Here’s a moderately short list of events that I can think of off the top of my head that doesn’t include defending those two outposts and escorting Historian Fia. NOTE, I don’t know the exact names of the events, but I do know the general objective of it.

  • Kill Champion Gladiator and two Hounds
  • Kill Risen Broodmother
  • Escort an Asura in battlesuit
    • Follow ups: defending his position, then escort to Caer Shadowfain, then killing a Risen Giant
  • Kill Tar Elementals in R&D Waypoint
  • Collect rotten fish glands for Rakkan, west of R&D Waypoint
  • Protect Rakkan while he experiments with anti-Risen thingy
  • Defend Gavbeorn’s Waypoint from Risen
  • Temple of Grenth meta-event that starts in Graven Cay island
    • Protect lightning cannon
    • Protect and Escort Jonez
  • Temple of Melandru meta-event that starts at Gavbeorn’s waypoint
  • Defend Jofast’s Waypoint
  • Defend Gates of Arah
  • Defend Tactician at Desmina’s Hallows
    • Follow ups: burn Pact corpses, then escort tactician back to camp
  • Kill Champion fish
  • Kill Champion Risen pirate captain
  • Kill veteran spider and rescue an Asura near Gavbeorn’s waypoint

There might be a few more I’m missing, but that’s all the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Quite frankly, most of those are pretty enjoyable to do with a small group of friends.

I think a waypoint should be added somewhere near the pirate ship. It’s amazing how many events get missed out because it’s just out of the way of most of the events towards Arah.

I reported those two, clinically insane, tunnel spawn camp points as a bug in the game.

Aside from being a bugged situation (debatable, i know), I can’t imagine anyone being masochistic enough to stand there zerging a slow trickle of enemies for hours and hours on end. That sounds like the definition of “horrible.”

Dude, if you want rewards, you’re playing the wrong game apparently. Go to WoW, duh!

What do the rewards have to do with the fact that DE farming is not fun because its a huge zerg? rewards are actually the only thing keeping people doing what little there IS to do. People wouldn’t do them for hours at a time if there was no loot.

Was farming last night and some players were really mad that we “messed up the rotation” and killed the giant after doing the helicopter. About half the zerg would go to The Giant because he’s right next to it, and the others would port out and get so upset that one guy wanted to report us as griefers. Where in the rules does it say that everyone has to play the game the same way? Isn’t that what’s nice about GW, that it’s different? It’s not my fault you spent money on a karma boost and aren’t getting 100% of the karma you think you should. I hope they change these events to get rid of the zerg karma train that everyone thinks they have to do.

It was during the off hours in a small part of the area too, there were many others by other areas. But yeah that’s nothing compared to peak hours (such as now) and more active servers. As for veterans… well, the veteran mob dies too fast and I get no credit even if I arcane blast it -_-

Back when I was at Orr there were very few people there. Infact I was aching for more people because soloing some of the events was difficult/boring ( I went there when I was lower 4-5 lvl than the mobs). But, but then again I lvled kind of fast and other people might have been lower lvl.

Remember it depends on your server population too. I suggest transferring to a lower pop server.

The problem with Orr is that for solo, the mobs are too tough/high damage/too darn many gimmicky CC and perma sprint.

But for a group, most of it is too easy. It’s like the scaling you see in the lower level zones aren’t functioning properly in Orr.

I bring up the Shaman Raid in Timberline Falls; It scales perfectly… In fact, the more people there are, even zerging it takes a signifigant amount of effort.

The Shaman’s guards are easily soloable if there are only 1-3 players. As there are mor eplayers there, they get very, very powerful. the regular mobs become “veteran”- like and the Veteran scales to a full Champion that if you get caught in his AOE, takes 1/2 your life.

In Orr, relatively speaking, individually, it’s very tough. In a group, it’s way too easy (for the DE). Even defending/capturing Arah entrance, you, as a player, can just stand there and mass AOE the mobs and it’s likely the mobs won’t even attack you. They have artificially high HP of course, and speed… but they’ll attack everything else but the player unless you literally stand right on top of them.

Comparatively, the lower level zones may have simpler mechanics, but they are more fun, and offer more of a challenge than the Orr events. Even as an 80, I find some of the lowbie zones more challenging (in a fun way) than Orr; which is just either too easy or too difficult.

Are there not enough other lvl 80 areas? I think the problem will be ironed out just got to give it time, more high lvl content will be added. Keep in mind about two weeks ago (which is how long I imagine roughly it takes u insane hardcore players to get to 80) the game went back up for sale, so right now its probably peaking with population. You literally have the biggest amount of new lvl 80 players trying to do the same thing that you might ever have per server that is. For one ANet didn’t expect this HUGE a turn out for their game, they did not expect it to sell out in the first place…

Not sure the point of this thread, but Ill just point out 1 thing, an ele saying he cant aoe ‘tag’ is just silly.
Go daggers and you will hit anything u want. you have 2 skills that close down massive range and about 6 big aoe skills that spread around you or are a ‘cone’ you aim.
As someone who is lvling most classes, and has a high lvl warr aswell trust me ele is lacking in areas, but aoe dps or ‘tagging’ is not it. Prob the easiest class to tag tbh

If you go staff to think you can tag easier due to its range and aoe skills then your wrong. The time it takes to tag say a grp of 10 mobs on the left and a grp of 5 mobs on the right with 2 or 3 spread out mobs way behind you on daggers will take 1/3rd of the time it takes to get em on staff. And more importantly the dmg you do in that burst time on the mobs is far far more with daggers.
(just stating dagger V staff weap skills here 1-5, ignoring sceptre and all ele skill slot skills 6-0, which again there is a few that will help you ‘tag’ mobs far faster and better)

Use your skills wisely)
