Ok this is obviously not the most pressing issue in GW2. But I have spent a long time to get my Guardian to have a certain look. To be honest I want her to be a Angel type of character. Well the issue is I spent all this money on Celestial White dye for the armor. Ok fine, but the gear has different White colors in different lighting. In bright light it looks all white but in the dark they have different shades. And it really bothers me!

Here is a pic. Thanks!

The dyes final effect is based on the material as well as the dye, not sure if there’s another dye that has the effect you’re looking for though.

This is the problem with mixing and matching armors. It isn’t just about colors, but materials too.

I think zones would be more boring if ambient light was the same everywhere. It is what helps give zones their distinctive ‘moods’. And the ambient light is what changes how dyes on armor are reflected.

I was gonna say, the mis-spelling of ‘irks’ is what irks me, but I got beat to it.

I’m gonna have a crack at this:

With the colours, GW2 does this (somewhat) correctly. As light fades, the ‘cone’ receptacles in our eyes don’t receive enough light to function correctly, so we start to lose colour perception. It works its way down the colour spectrum, so that we lose purples, then blues, greens etc all the way down till all we can see is reds… and then no colour at all.

At night, all hues stop becoming visible in this way unless otherwise illuminated. Now the thing is, different textures reflect light in different ways. The shiny armour would reflect it far better than the matte cloth. So light from the matte parts photodegrade quickest.

Really, it should all fade to grey reasonably equally, except for the gauntlets which have their own light source.
