This one is for a dev response
Azure, I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend. This is a lovely tribute to him.
-Mike O’Brien
Because we can’t be angry about both?
I’d support this idea as a nice memento to a player who loved the game. I hope the devs respond in some way.
Thank you guys! His mom has been trying to log into his GW2 account to contact people on his friends list. It was really satisfying finding her and talking to her. Shes a great woman and he was a great great guy. GW2 meant a lot to him.
As much as your suggestion might be a nice tribute, it may have several shortcomings.
What would stop people from creating a character and then, after some time, deleting it and saying, or having a friend/guildie/whoever say that person passed away, and could they get a memorial? As creepy as it sounds, some players might like to have recognition in the game, and would use this as a way to get it.
Let’s say the CS Team closed any account that this service was provided for, to keep players from gaining said recognition without merit. What would keep a mean-spirited player from contacting the Devs and saying some other account’s owner had passed away, and thus the account should be closed? Either scenario would cause extra work for the CS Team to investigate. Would a death certificate be necessary to prove said passing?
Maybe you could create a character named after your friend/guildie as a memorial to him. Or a personal Guild, or name a pet. That might be seen more than a gravestone, and could honor your friend’s memory.
Good luck.

I’m sorry for your loss. It’s hard to lose a friend, whether it’s a real life friend or an online friend.
well, I have his online obituary, article of his death, and more. I fully expected that it could be questioned so im prepared. Obviously its not something I want to just post and such, but if its possible and thats what is required, its not an issue. Plus his mother would be absolutely THRILLED! (she has his character on her facebook, so awesome)
Sorry for your loss mate.
And I support your idea – it would be a very nice thing to do to remember him.
Sorry for your loss and best of luck in talking with Arenanet. Be prepared to give your evidence though, no offense.
Oh, and don’t post that stuff here. When Arenanet contact you, if they do, give it to them and only them.
A lot of other games have done this sorta stuff, and i think Arenanet will reach out to you. That said, let us know what happens!

It’s not unprecedented with Anet, so there may be hope.
Good luck.
I would say the forums aren’t the correct place to request this, but a letter directly to the company or even an email would likely be seen by the people you would it to be seen by and open up a more direct dialogue.
It shouldn’t be too hard to find the details on the website – I know someone else wrote directly to them and got an acknowledgement.
Good luck
The devs always read the boards so im just hoping for any kind okittennowledgement. Even if its, hey Azure, email here, you know? Again thanks guys, I just want the post to be seen by the devs, this isnt meant to be a huge thread or anything
yes. this is a very far-fetched request and likely nothing will be done to honor your friend in game. i wish it was possible but were talking about anet here.
best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base.”
I’d second that a letter written to the company might go over better and get more attention from those that could do this. And I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s really sweet of you to want to honor him in some way.
I have often thought servers should have a Memory Wall, just a place where former players names could be listed it could even include NPCs if the Devs liked. It doesn’t sound hard to put together at least not to me.

I think thats a great idea man
The cemetery next to DR would only need the swapping out of a tombstone or two for a really cool memorial.
I support this.

kitten man, good luck!
There already are memory walls in LA, for the people lost/missing; it would surely be pretty easy to add a few more posters, not with rl names of course but with character names, that would be very cool

didnt know this, thanks a lot wow
Maybe they should implement something like a graveyard in the mists as memorial for those players. So the guildmates can visit him from time to time in the virtual world.
welp I guess you guys were right, its not worthy of a dev response. Ill find another way! ty everyone

It’s not a case of not being worthy, it’s Thanksgiving weekend (I think??) and they are prob on a brief break between heavy workloads, so aren’t checking the forums as much.

That and Devs rarely respond to posts title “dev response”, the forum is not their primary method of contact between the players and the Devs (it wouldn’t be the devs you need to talk to anyway as they don’t make these kinds of decisions) and posts titled in that way are usually trolls or highly opinionated posts.
If you really want to speak to Anet about this then you need to use their primary method of contact, the support ticket system as you will very rarely get a response here.

Yes we are talking about Anet, and someone has posted an example of them honoring a fan in a similar way earlier in the thread.
link just incase you would miss it again rereading the posts http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Roger_Rall
Anyhow, sorry about your loss, hope a dev will see this
Well ive tried many avenues of contact with no luck… ive almost given up hope. Not sure where I can go from here
