Im a 43 year old IT professional who has played MMO’s since the late nineties. I’ve been enjoying GW2 since early start. I have 3 level 80,s spent in excess of $500 in the cash shop.

Tonight I will uninstall GW2 and instal Planetside2 in anticipation of its launch tomorrow.

This weekend event made me realize that ANET created an AAA title that they will turn into a small A rated game that once again, can barely be called an mmo, will have a small but dedicated following and will linger that way for years to come.

Please note, this is my only post; I am not a troll.

Give ANet enough time to gather data and understand… it could have been handled better.

I’ll transfer there if you want to mail it to me Missed the whole event myself, couldn’t even do the quest because it was bugged on my server.

I’m taking a break from GW2, going to give it a few months to develop and see where it headed. I suggest holding onto your items.

I generally think some of the folks getting refunds after 2-3 months are abusing the system a bit. In your case, though, get a refund on the gems. Because I’m betting a lot of that spending was “This is the right direction, please keep it up!” money. And, well, they obviously didn’t get the hint (from your personal perspective).

… As far as I can tell, the window for refunds is one month. Pretty sure it’s in the TOS. So… patpatpat

Yup, I was right.

(d) Refund Request – If You do not accept the provisions of this agreement, You may request a refund for the Software, if you were required to pay for it and if it was purchased from NCsoft, within thirty (30) days of either the date on Your receipt or the date You created a Game Account, whichever is earlier. If the Software was purchased from a third party, You should request a refund from that third party. Such refund may be subject to that third party’s refund policies. If You purchased the Software from NCsoft and would like to issue a refund request from NCsoft, such a request must be made to the Notice Contact and include Your name, address, contact information, a copy of Your receipt, any applicable serial code number / access key, and a reason for the refund request. After clicking “I ACCEPT” below, You may not request a refund for the Software except where You are entitled to a refund in accordance with Your statutory rights under applicable law or where the provisions of this agreement allows You to request a refund.

Wrong. Refunds are valid for 6 months. If you purchased your game before 6 months ago, make sure to contact your card company and charge back EVERYTHING you spent on the game. I know my bank and card issuer cover me longer then 6mo

This is the “if you do not accept the provisions of this agreement” refund. It’s a standard thing in click-wrap EULAs. Because you often can’t see the EULA until after you’ve already bought the software, you see, but it’s possible that you won’t accept the license agreement; so this clause tells you that if you don’t like the license, don’t install it and just go get a refund on the application.

The refunds folks are applying for are different. They’re not just the legal boilerplate on all software.

That’s not a refund. That’s stealing.

You have paid for a game, played it for longer than the period in which you can refund it and then are telling your CC company to take the money back after the time period WHICH YOU AGREED TO BE ABLE TO, breaking the ToS.

I’m sure you don’t care, but that’s not ‘getting a refund’. That is fraud, plain and simple.

This is what you’re entititled to when you close your accout:

(b) Discretionary Account Termination – You may notify NCsoft that You wish to terminate an Account by notifying the Notice Contact of Your desire to do so. Any such request must be made to the Notice Contact and include Your name and contact information. NCsoft may also, in its sole and absolute discretion, provide other means by which You may choose to so notify NCsoft. Whether or not You wish to terminate an Account, NCsoft may at any time or for any reason, both of which shall be conclusively determined in the sole and absolute discretion of NCsoft, modify or delete Your Account as well as any other Account, NCsoft Message Board ID, Character ID, Team, and/or characteristics related to a Character ID. Unless NCsoft terminates due to breach of this agreement by You, You will be entitled to a refund for any unused purchased Gems that cannot be used and/or spent as a result of the termination by sending a refund request to the Notice Contact.

Doing a chargeback for everything? That’s plain Credit card fraud.

Yup i share this sentiment. With Ascended they kittened over all casuals and with the event they kittened over all hardcores. good work Anet, just one weekend and a big part of the playerbase is pissed and ready to leave. Maybe we can get rid of the other part on next weekend by removing fractals and adding 10 more empty borderland maps?

i fear we will look back to this day and remember the good old wvw as it is now – Jan 2015

Since you spent so much money in the cash shop (god knows on what, or why you would do that), and the game has only been out 3 months or so, you have already given them more then any subscription MMO in history.

$60 initial cost + $500 cash shop \ 3 months is approx $187 a month. That is roughly 11 times what any subscription based MMO charges.

I think people like this should be ashamed for being suckered so badly and rewarding a company for this.

Chargebacks aren’t refunds. Chargebacks, generally, are for incorrect billing or total failure to provide a service. If some company’s glitchy storefront double-charges me for a web order, I get a chargeback. If I paid for a product and the company closes up shop before they can deliver it to me, I get a chargeback.

IANAL, but there’s no way that “ascended gear ruined the game after I played it for 3 months” qualifies for a chargeback.

There’s an Anet refund page that will give you a refund, though.

Except they didn’t. Your interpretation of their advertisements might not have been 100% spot on and you might not be 100% pleased with their interpretations, but they have not outright lied about anything. That argument wouldn’t hold water in any court.

And no, ANet doesn’t have the time to take people to court over it, I know that, but that doesn’t change the fact that doing a chargeback for everything is still fraud.

Are you a lawyer? No? Then don’t do a chargeback over a situation as ambiguous as this. Because inappropriate chargebacks are bad news. Just ask Anet for a refund, like everyone else who wants their money back is doing. They will give it to you.

I know. I’m just saying that given the size of the company, they might not even have to lawyer. They might just call up the company, tell them to investigate, and if the credit card company finds that you fraudulently did a charge back… well say good bye to a good chunk of your credit score. And potentially your business with them. It’s not a good idea, just don’t do it.

Also read up on American fraud law. Dictionary definition =/= legal definition. You might get away with false advertising charges, which is a much lower thing, but not fraud. Fraud requires intent, more intent and even more intent on top of that. And you have to prove that intent, which is a pain in the butt.

I mean, reading american law anyway is fun in the first place. :P

Anyway, bottom line, get what you can legally from their agreement back if you’re leaving. Try a charge back at your own risk, but keep in mind that it’s a dangerous and technically illegal move except in very certain situations.

Been playing game for a week. got the game refunded but said cant refund gems. They terminated that account and serial. Feel like the gems should be refunded because they were for that account for bag slots and bank slots. Makes no sense to have spend $50 on gems for an account that is no longer active. They lied about this game. Those purchases were made in the belief they weren’t going to do a 180.

Anyone else been denied for gem refunds? Even with there eula stating refund is for unused gems I call BS. I’ll be going through my bank if they deny me again.

Yeah all that is going to happen with that is your bank will issue a chargeback, their bank will rebutt with evidence that you bought the game, played and game and signed the Tos..and your bank will be out the cost of the chargeback plus the fee to rebutt and you will pay it.

Lets talk about intent. Patching for bugs, Halloween event, etc. must have kept them pretty busy. Did they just make up this new dungeon and gear in their spare time? They havn’t even fixed the culling problems so you think they were hard at work on this new dungeon without having it fixed? I believe it was their INTENT to implement this new content from the beginning. If they did have people working on this new gear and dungeon without fixing existing problems it shows extreme negligence on their part. Either way doesn’t look good for them. I simply applied to get my money back, they sent me an email asking for my account and payment details so it looks like I will get a refund. Done deal, no hard feelings. Enjoy your game where the whole community is just crowded around the entrance to a dungeon. It’s totally like WoW with the whole player base huddled in Ogrimar or Stormwind waiting for raids or bg’s to pop.

Created a thread in account help with
They refunded the game but said cant refund any gems that are spent. The eula says only unspent gems can be refunded. They sold this game and convinced me to buy gems in the belief this game would head in one direction but veered off another path. Those gems for bag slots and banks slots were an investment for my future enjoyment while supporting their efforts. In the end its is not what I paid for. Those are directly associated with account that is now terminated. Im talking about purchases that are all less then 2 weeks old. So its not like oh you played for 3 months and got your moneys worth here. It doesn’t make sense to refund the game but the gems used for characters on that game aren’t.

I opened another ticket to get them refunded. Wondering if there’s anything more I can do. They got those sales in an il gotten manner. I feel ripped of here. Any chance you can help me out?

As has been stated, PS 2 couldn’t even be downloaded yesterday. Quit being a vulture. Robin has dibs if ps2 looks promising.

I wasn’t going to respond but I left my iPad on this page and was surprised by all the responses. I hold no ill will toward ANET, I don’t want a refund and i feel that the money I spent was well worth 3 plus months of entertainment. I simply can’t log in anymore as I don’t find it fun mainly because the elements in the game that would be fun aren’t due to bugs, design issues, ambiguity and a conflicted future agenda.

I wasn’t posting for any other reason than to provide feedback to ANET. This is a game, not a virtual life. Games that get my heart pumping hook me. Games that make me fall asleep, not so much.
