This what they mean by new skills?
Well, for one, they may certainly not be done with their plans of adding new skills. Secondly, you can hardly blame them if you go your hopes too high by incorrectly assumptions.

Except that Arenanet habitually uses slight-of-hand in wording their statements about what they are going to do in the game, to maximize the anticipation of new features without actually having to deliver what the players are expecting.
Take precursor crafting for example. They’ve been talking about it, and there’s lots of excitement among the players, but it’s pretty obvious from some statements in one of the precursor threads that what is really going to happen is the implementation of new legendaries and the ability to craft the precursors for only those legendaries.
There are a number of people over the past year that I’ve seen express dissatisfaction with Arenanet’s delivery of changes and additions when compared to the “hype” that was put out in regards to those improvements.
But that’s Arenanet’s choice. If they want to destroy any shred of respect that the players have for their word, they are free to do so. If for some reason they want to retain some standing with their customers, they are going to have to start releasing exact details on their plans, and then follow through and deliver, without any gimmicky word-mincing.
Maybe it will be released as a christmas present or new year thingy,
if more are to come.
They’ve also stated that they don’t want to upset WvW balance during season 1. I assume that means that new skills/traits will come out in either December patch. Ascended armor may also come out then, if they deem that it would “upset the balance.”

When did they ever mention a time frame? I’ve only remember seeing something like “we will be adding more skills” but never a mention of when.

Everything mentioned in there was scheduled for “by the end of the year.” And of the things missing, only precursor crafting, new legendaries and new legendary types have have been stated that if something isn’t going to make it this year, it will most likely be those things.
Dec, is just my guess/estimate from a different dev post about not wanting to effect balance during WvW Season 1.
lol, that would be just like them, to say you’ll soon have the ability to craft precursors, then limit it to only legendaries that aren’t in the game yet, where the precursors you craft are non-tradable, can’t be obtained elsewhere, cost more to craft than previous precursors cost to buy, and are time-gated. I look forward to this message: “Only 1 precursor can be crafted per day”.

Ah forgot about that bit. Well this new skill certainly doesn’t fit the description. Reading that again I am actually a bit annoyed. New traits would be nice but how about fixing/updating some the crappier existing ones?!

The new heal skill is on par with racial skills ie…mainly rubbish…
Its only really useful when in Kessex Hills and probably in the future when you go into the tower in a group.

Well right before WvW Season 1 they did buff some support trait/skills. Like I said, I assume the next “big” balance patch to come in Dec (and thats when I guess more skills/traits will land) because of WvW Season 1.

That’s a very wide thing to do.
If something goes wrong, making current precursors craftable will massively devalue existing Legendaries, upsetting everyone who worked their butts off to get one.

But they now have 2 months to get in either new skills for each class/weapon combo or the precursor scavenger hunt(which they said might not make it in as promised).

They never did say how many new skills to expect. I figure we’ll see half a dozen or so, maybe. I’m also well aware that new skills need time to be developed, implemented, and tested. Let them take as much time as they need.
If we only get a couple by the end of the year, then a couple more a few months later, I’m good with that…if they come to us balanced and usable. I’m sure they’ll need some tweaking after the fact, since not everything can be caught or accounted for in the relatively sterile development environment. Nobody can catch every potential flaw or come up with every potential exploit or op synergy, its just not possible.
If people have issues with that, I challenge them to step into a professional game developer’s shoes for a day or two and see how it goes for them. It’s not sunshine and roses.

Not arguing that, but technically 2 would fit that description and they have 2 months to go…
I just don’t expect a new full set for each weapon for each class that the weapon goes on. That’s a bit much to ask in 6 months, I feel. Considering it’s not the only thing they are working on…
I honestly think the only time we will get ‘proper’ new skills for general play and new weapons for classes with skills tied in to them will be in a expansion. If and when that ever happens.

Not everyone, at least not this one.
Crafting isn’t necessarily cheaper, just take a look at the cost of some of the more expensive exotics. Wouldn’t surprise me if for example the recipe for dusk/dawn is 250 ori blade and 250 ori hilts and 250 lodestones, 250 something else to differentiate between the two and similar things for the other weapon types. You know how much they love 250.

The blog post also implied class skills. This one is more alone the lines of a racial skill. It is also a PvE only skill.
