After reading through the forums I noticed there seems to be an awful lot of negative thoughts flying around. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, so I figured I’d give mine.

So I’ll say thankyou to NCSoft/ArenaNet for creating a very enjoyable game.

The game design makes me want to keep going. The variety is good. The endless loops of questing in other MMO’s are gone and replaced by mechanics which (whilst ultimately limited in number for obvious reasons) are a welcome change to the normal run of things.

I particularly enjoy the Daily quests which change on a daily basis (duh). This is a good idea in my view, adding a lot of variety and a sense of accomplishment each day.

Truthfully, I dont find the game a grind at all. The personal story is interesting, amusing at times and you can sympathise with the plot if you go into it with childlike wonderment, this is a fantasy MMO afterall…

I’ve been surprised by how many people say the game lacks endgame content. The thing is, the play through to 80 is the content.

Back in the mid 80’s when I started gaming, the endgame achievement of a game was seeing the screen, which took 20 minutes to load from tape, that simply said “Congratulations, you have killed the black dragon” and had a little CGA graphic of a 2d guy with a sword and dragons severed head. If you were very lucky your computer might beep at you too, in a musical doorbell sort of way.

I paid my £35 and I will see probably 120 hours of gaming out of it, perhaps much more. Even after 4 days and achieving only level 25 so far (because PVP is fun!), I’ve had my moneys worth. There is virtually no other activity which provides so much entertainment for so little money.

Any further updates or content which is added to the game, I look at as a free gift. I’m not paying a subscription so I cant expect endless content for free but the updates are very much appreciated.

Overall this is a quality game. Nothing will please everyone but this is an extremely good example of how an MMO should work. Its massive, its multiplayer and its online. That doesn’t mean it needs to be the same as any other game, it can do its own thing, which it does, and does well. Oh and it looks beautiful too with full graphics.

Agreed with OP! This game is clearly amazing and has done right in so many aspects! While there are a few shortcomings, this game is great and it will be even greater in the future!

Also, the endgame is the entire game itself. Not sure if this will get into the minds of players but it’s true. I mean, I find the game very enjoyable.

Give a man fire, he will be warm, set a man on fire, he will be warm forever! …or dead…

The overall game is fun, however you only have a level 25, I can assure you almost everyone that is claiming issues with the game today is way beyond that point and loved GW2 to pieces when their first was only 25 levels young.

The more you are balanced between real life and game the more you will enjoy GW2, it is an inviting game. The more you live in game, in time the game will frustrate you, but to me pretty much any game will do that. Some want to believe heaven can exist in a game, that when they find that perfect one, they can make their new reality in game permanently. Many people seem to have crazy and I mean crazy hours into GW 2, if one is handicapped or out of work no matter, crazy hours I tell you!

I hope several things in GW2 become standards in new mmo’s being developed, they made good strides in some areas that will be hard to go back to the old way.

yup the game is awesome!

but people who play 1000h expect a designed PvE “endgame” that have no end.

and there is a lot of those people. and they are very vocal.

for random jack the rpg lover, the game is just mindblowingly awesome.

I live in the game, I have 5 80s and the game doesn’t frustrate me as much as most MMOs do. In fact, I can’t think of another MMO that frustrates me less.

To be sure, plenty of things can frustrate…hard jumping puzzles that take me forever, because of camera view, dungeons bugging out on occasion, dying because of lag…all these things frustrate me..but overall, that’s true of any game I’ve ever played.

Guild Wars 2 is by far the best MMO for me, and I’ve tried a bunch of them. I’ve always believed in the potential of the MMO as a game genre. But this is the first time it’s come close to being fulfilled.

It’s not perfect, but there are plenty of level 80s running around that enjoy the game.

That is true, what I’m trying to convey is many that do become disgruntled are well into the game, which going back to the OP and them seeing negativity vs their sole 25. It’s not that those complaining never had fun, far from that, but to some fun dies out with repetition and that is what a lot of it is now. I run around with my 80 often. My actual disgruntles are few, I’m still here, so I can’t ask for much more. I have my areas I focus my feedback on…

I understand what you are saying, I do. My experience of the game is more “limited” than most, its true.

I submit to you though, that even if the game ended at level 50, it would still represent amazing value for money. Consider other games on virtually any platform, some have as little as 15 hours of playable content, yet they cost around the same to purchase and are sometimes rated very highly. I’d equate hitting level 25 in GW2 at a sedate pace to completing 90% of GTA 4, for example. I’ve logged about 45 hours in this game.

People tend to judge MMO’s by the market leader, who we all know and either love or hate. The thing is, that ANet does not benefit from the same enormous level of monthly income, so when making judgements on the game, we need to remember what we paid in the first place.

Any game that takes over a life will eventually frustrate a person. This is because a game can never fulfill the basic requirements of a human being. The frustration stems not from the game or its content, but the lack of fulfillment a person suffers from being tied only to a computer game for 18 hours a day. It’s just a different form of exile, if you catch my drift.

That’s just my opinion of course.
