Guild Wars 2

Dear people from the Guild Wars 2 developing team,

I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 for almost two years now and I like the game alot. The selection of the characters is balanced, the races are interesting and the world is very beautifully designed in detail. I havn’t seen a map that doesn’t have its charm. Even the crafting system is nice, though there are some things I’d like to suggest here. An overview of missing recipes which you still have to learn would be great. That would be helpful to see, which one you still have to learn.

But I’m not writing you, because everything is all right. In the last few weeks a certain frustration has been spreading with me as to my progress in the game. There are several reasons for that. First, I have to mention the raids. They are a hurdle that doesn’t fit to all players. I tried to get into a group, learn about the raids and how the bosses have been to be defeated. However, many groups seal themselves. And the few open groups usually fail very often, which is very frustrating in the game. Ultimately, I was forced to pay gold to be carried through the raid (currently about 500 gold to play all three wings around Raid for once) to learn more about them, especially the more difficult parts. Right now I got into a raid group, but we started at the beginning. I hope I can make some progress there without paying gold again.

Another problem on my part is the game in PvP. I had actually intended to make the achievements for the legendary PvP backpack. But in a solo game the experiences were so frustrating that I tried it with groups. I wanted to go into a group, that is. But since I have generally played only little PvP, no one wanted to take me with them. I’ve also tried to offer gold here. But even an offer of 10 gold per player per win was not enough. Like the raids I’m can’t do many achievements from the PvP block , although I would like to do something in this direction. I already missed the achievements for the revenge of the “Capricorn”. I won’t be able to do the achievements for the Colloseum as well. And the same applies to the legendary backpack.

Achievements, yeah… There are so many things that I can’t do anymore, since the corresponding events no longer exist, such as the battle for Lion’s Ark. Unfortunately, I came to Guild Wars 2 just two years ago, and I wish I could catch up with them somehow. Many have told me that this story was very interesting. Regrettably, a repeat of these events is not available for all new players.
In addition there a achievements that should be there, like those for the racial weapon collection. Something like that exsists for the armors, but why not for the weapons? I don’t expect any huge reward for that. But a title maybe “Weapon Master” or something. That would be nice.

Finally, I’d like to explain my general happiness in the game, especially about my luck to get random loot. After these two years, I havn’t received any of the desired precursors yet. The legendary weapons that I have, were bought or made through the available crafting achievements. I don’t know exactly how luck is determined in the game (despite Magic Find). Some people get 5 of these precursors within a month, while I haven’t had one after two years. What exactly determines who gets expensive gear, and who not? And I don’t have bad luck just with precursors.
Over the time playing Guild Wars 2, I’ve invested several thousand euros in gems to get the skins, expand my home base, and get equipment that is prescribed for raids and other things by players. With the last update of the black lion chest, I have invested 400 € in keys to get enough items for the guaranteed account unlock. Again I wasn’t really lucky. I still miss about 40 things I could unlock. It’s clear to me that there shouldn’t be “pay-to-win”. But for people who support the game as much as I do (and I plan to continue to do so), there must be something.

Generally playing is frustrating for me at the moment, even Guild Wars 2 has many facets that are worth to be tested. Unfortunately, my guild became very inactive and other groups wouldn’t take me with them to play. I actually had intended to achieve something in the game, something that no one has managed yet. Everybody wants to have of be something/someone special. But I probably just failed.

Oh, one more thing. I wrote an email straight to Arenanet, because I was interested in two things. First, I found the background music very appealing when the Legendary Bandit Executioner appears. I asked if this music is available as a MP3 file. And second, there is an interesting soundeffect that appears when somebody gets the light aura. It has a nice surring sound and I asked for a MP3 file as well. I never got an answer sadly.

I’m sorry that I had to get this out of my head. I apologize. But I don’t know where I should put it instead.

Precursors, and any other skins drop randomly regardless of how much money one spends on Gems.

Getting into groups for content is determined by the playerbase, not ArenaNet.

The PvP achievements were re-instated. Check the Dev Tracker or PvP sub-forum for more details.

For Raids, PvP, and WvW: Join Guilds that do group content and are willing to teach. Many will advertise in game, on the forums, on reddit, or on other sites. Just search on google.

I too, missed Living Story 1 and the Battle of Lion’s Arch. However part of LS1’s hook was ‘you have to be here to experience’. They do seem to have plans to bring them back in Fractals, however- you may still get to do a version of it (Tower of Nightmares drops on Monday).

Precursors and Black Lion Chests: It’s random. Each time you try for a special item it’s an independently generated number. Say you were to roll a dice- Statistically speaking if you rolled the dice enough you would get every number eventually right? But it’s very possible to never roll a six. And it’s also possible for one person to roll a 6 five times. I’ve played since launch and I’ve never gotten a pre or anything particularly special from BLCs. If you want your money to be worth it get a guaranteed item, like skins.

Speaking of money- You support the game by buying things, your reward is the items you buy. Nothing more. Any sort of reward for the amount of money you spend on a game would make it pay to win and therefore be unfair. Even a title seems unfair to me- I don’t have thousands of IRL money to spend on a game and would hate being blocked from the achievement.

For raid, try to ask your guild whether they have scheduled raid training for their member, or join a group that has one keep asking to join raid training on your guild once a week eventually they will recruit you to their primary squad once you mastered it, goodluck.
