Now that season 1 of the Living Story has completed, I find myself wondering how the “Living World/2 week release window substituting as Expansion” bit is working. I admit, I really liked the Living World. It effectively kept me coming back to the game and I did as many of the meta events as I could.

However, looking back, the amount of permanent, lasting content is staggeringly low. With the exception of TA Aether, we have no new dungeons. We have only one new set of armor (ascended). We have the champ weapons, but no new legendaries, and frankly the named exotics aren’t “new” or “interesting” anymore as it’s been, what a year since they came out. The few new world bosses we’ve received are so difficult that only huge organized groups like TTS can regularly participate in them. And only 1 new zone that hardly anyone ever goes to.

Perhaps what I’m trying to say is that while I really quite loved the story of the Living Story, and the temporary content was mildly entertaining, my overall satisfaction with playing the game has steadily gone down. I find myself wandering aimlessly and doing whatever dungeon someone in guild chat randomly needs. I’ve recently jumped into PvP and am enjoying it, but I desperately want something new. I hope the feature build is as massive and interesting as ANet seems to be suggesting. But after 1.5 years of the same hype for every release, it’s getting harder and harder to believe anything of value other then a few balance things here and there are coming.

Sorry, I don’t mean to be a bummer. I love this game and want it to succeed, I just hope there will be more game to actually play soon. Am I alone in feeling like this? What your thoughts on new content? What have you found to keep you occupied?

In an effort to be more constructive, I thought I would offer my hopes for Season 2 LS. I hope that Season 2 incorporates content that would normally be implemented during an expansion into each release.

New Zones
Why not add a new zone or two with a few of the releases until we have some set number of new areas. Perhaps make it so we’re part of an expedition into Maguuma, researching the effects Scarlet had on the world.

New Dungeons
I have AC, SE and CoF tokens spewing out of my ears. Why not give us a few new dungeons to explore. Perhaps even go between adding new dungeons and new zones in each release. A new dungeon in the shiverpeaks to meet with the Dwarves who are going through issues would be neat. A dungeon that deals with the Tengu and their concerns would be fun as well.

New Weapons/Armor Sets acquirable through the game and not USD
I’d love some weapons and armor sets that were attainable that I actually felt like I earned them. I get that we’ve got new armor sets and weapons through the Black Lion Cash Shop but it’s so hollow. Seeing another thief in all Magitech, or another Mesmer with Kasmeer’s staff doesn’t tell me they’re awesome, it tells me the have disposable income.

I am sure that ArenaNet knows how to make proper expansions:

In the original Guild Wars, there’s an equivalent Living stories:

And of course, the important question is whether they’ll bring something of similar quality to GW2.

I wasn’t questioning whether or not they had the ability to release an expansion but whether or not they will as Living Story is intended to serve as a method of delivering content similar to an expansion. But point of contention is that I don’t personally feel that it’s working.
