First, I play from Asia. And hellll, engy is a real killer when there is high latency.

I see a good amount of Asians in the game. Close to 10% of people who plays during peak time (considering GMT+7) are Asians on my server. And considering that there is no real organized forums, I don’t think that is in any way coordinated—the population is likely to be very evenly spread.

I spent a bit of time with my warrior, and that is all good. It can be hard to dodge things or timing a combo, but I can at least take some hits.
But when I’m playing Engie, I need to drop turrets, switch kits, and kite. The nasty part is the extra second tagged on for every action I do. Grenades becomes impossible to use on dry ground, and my favorite healing (medkit) takes close to 8 seconds to use everything. By the time I drop all the items, my first medkit is usually recharged—that’s how bad it is.

I know there is no subscription in this game, hence no incentive to create new server. But hey—we Asians are well known lovers of microtransaction (and unfortunately, bots). Giving us good experience means we will probably end up buying a ton of stuff too, instead of just leaving the game!

I concur, worst is when you have to use those kitten ground targeting skills.

with 300ms ping that target is no longer where you saw him at.
Position based combat is fun an all but with lag this high… not really.

I had this problem playing rupting mesmer on guildwars.
I was fine when I was in europe and rupted every skill on queue but when I returned to asia it was like, missed the skills unless it was a 2 second casting skill.

Don’t forget about Australians, they’re in your time zone as well. :P I suspect though the lack of a server physically located in that area of the world is a cost issue.

Aussies are always a problem.

Their connection to the rest of the world is awful so they insist a server has to be placed in Australia itself. How many other countries in the world do that? The only one I can think of is the US, but to be fair they are an entire continent with a significantly higher potential playerbase.

And as a result the server placed in Australia is pretty much useless for anyone else in the Oceanic / Pacific Rim area. To the point where most gamers that I know in that area will play on US servers instead of Australia-based servers.

SoE have finally been knocked off the top spot
in the list of developers I have the least faith & trust in.
Congratulations ArenaNet!

I find it amusing that you call the US “an entire continent” when in fact it is not. Australia, on the other hand, is an entire continent.

I play from Asia on a US server (TC), but I don’t notice any persistent lag in-game that’s server-side rather than my-kitten-router-side. Maybe that depends on where you are, though.

Other than semantics, was my post actually incorrect?

Almost every MMO I have played the Aussies insist they need their own server and anyone else in that area of the world wants it anywhere but Australia due to ping issues. The tend to get a lower ping from US servers.

SWTOR introduced Oceanic servers and I don’t see why GW2 can not. The Australian player base coupled with the Asian player base should be enough to warrant 1 or 2 dedicated Oceanic servers.

NC Soft, the owners of ANet iirc, are a South Korean company. So I’m sure they’d be able to figure out something if they put their minds to it.
