Time for more Personal Stories
Considering this was the same case for Zhaitan, yes it does make sense. Also because the Zhaitan storyline can always be played, it wouldn’t make sense to make the next dragon story temporary (aka Living Story).
But that’s probably exactly what will happen.

If you ask anet, the personal story’s still ongoing. For some reason. That’s why Destiny’s edge isn’t really around during the Scarlet Story. So I guess no Personal story 2.0

I’m beginning to think that it should have just been a continuation of the personal story all along. Having both just makes it awkward even if it’s a great idea.
From Anet’s point of view, the personal story never happened. Its always “happening”. Thats why if you do it right now, it will be in ruined Lion’s Arch. That’s also why you see “The Vigil, Durmand Priory and Order of Whispers” instead of “The Pact”.
I don’t think they plan to do anymore, they seem to see it as more of a tutorial.
I’m usually really sweet… but this an internet forum and you know how it has to be.

The personal story was a static world when they were trying to create a living one. Rather than phasing players to their spot on the timeline like every other MMO does, ArenaNet wants everyone to be on the same page. I doubt they’ll do a personal story like the current one again because it was too limiting. This is why they have now decided that the personal story is historical, taking place in the past, because they couldn’t assume where people were, so they had to basically ignore it entirely. I can however see personal stories being purely personal and used as more of an introduction to the world. For example, the current personal story should have ended somewhere around joining the Orders while everything involving the Pact and the downfall of Zhaitain would have been a living story.
To simply increase the personal story, they could convert the living story and make a historical version. It would basically be the same story, the same content that everyone has already done up to now in the living story, but it would be presented like the personal story. This would add a fair amount of content for new players to play through, rather than simply deleting it.
What I would really like is some more optional missions in the personal story coming from the orders. I’d love some order of whispers spying missions etc…
Marush Ifri, Noreena Gorun, Arsaname, Desra Ele…
The posts above seems quite contradictory to each other.
Let me clear something out, Living Story is the story about the Past that’s why you can’t redo it now. Personal story is your Character’s story of evolution and it’s plotted around defeating Dragons. Since now we have another reason to continue our battle it seems quite logical that they would move to Personal Story again.
Remember, in 3 years there will still be new players that will experience the demise of the dragons for the first time… and that’s why we have Personal Stories.
They will not be able to defeat Scarlet, making Living Stories, past tense.
The big problem with the Personal Story I have is the lack of the personal touch beyond level 30. It feels more like a common story. I would appreciate a Personal Story that focuses more on personal aspects of our characters. I would like to see more Personal stories beyond killing dragons maybe to our childhood or youth.
The next problem with the Personal Story (PS) is its fixed location in time. It is dealing with events in the past. So the best solution would be to separate the PS from the presence.
All events and encounters in the presence should be delivered via Living World. This gives the feelings all happens in real-time. When a LW chapter ends it becomes a chapter of your PS. The devs just have to adjust/transform the LW temporary events to the instances used within PS. PS will be a flashback to encounters in the past.

This is actually a nice idea. Although to me it sounds too complexed to make. Because we do have our current playerbase that are following the story every two weeks, but what about new/returning players? They will also have to defeat the Dragons because that’s the Plot in Guild Wars 2. How to satisfy both, I dunno.
They told us that the “sub arcs” of the next LW season will be smaller and not overlapping. This should make it easier to provide finished sub arcs as chapters for the PS. For running sub arcs we would need some “what happened so far” features to catch up. Story instances could be used in LW and PS without major changes. Only important large and zone wide events have to be transformed in a PS-friendly solo version.
The next problem with the PS is the absence of level gates like we had with Zaithan. I can’t imagine Arenanet will introduce another 30-50 character levels to slow down the consumption of the PS. I see the danger you play through the PS within several hours or the devs introduce some kind of artificial time barriers. The LW would provide a much more plausible time frame.

Factions, Nightfall, and EotN were designed not only as stand alone games (ie having their own starter zones), but where the ‘meat’ of the game was intended for already max level characters. I can see them doing something similar here, with the additional PS content. They just have to set up some type of quest or event progression between the various ‘mission’ installments.
In truth, after the initial launch of any game, the only real way to slow a player down is to enforce some type of gate to the content. Which is something many of us absolutely don’t want.
Edit: Well eotn wasnt, it was ‘actually’ an expansion, but same general principle.

If they do make a new Personal Story (PS2), it will need to be a stand alone one not requiring the completion of the 1st Personal Story.
Because many people refuse to do the final Dungeon mission of the first PS, if they make it a continuation of the first one, requiring its completion, the PS2 would be a dead project for many, never to be started.
That would be a bad use of Dev time to segregate such an arguably vast group of customer base.

Honestly, I think they should drop the personally story and replace it with missions, like the first Guild Wars had.
If you check the map at the attachments, you can see the map is marked with shields. Those shields were missions that played out the story of the campaign, and I think those were really well done.
Even if the missions could be; Walk from point A, to point B and slay X boss there were side objectives to complete additional things for extra experience and skillpoints, and then you could try to complete it on hardmode. Yes, these missions were replayable.
The personally story is fine, but I still think these shield symbol missions were much, much, much more interesting.
