So this week for news we get: A devs bio, the upcoming POI topic, and a little summary of what we’ve done.

I’m the BIGGEST fanboy for anet. I’ve met the artists and devs in person, own the CE of gw2 along with the CE strategy guide, own multiple posters that are up around my room, have the Guild Wars 2 dragon t-shirt, and have done everything in this game possible without grinding for hours on end.

Waiting for new content is very hard for me as I want everything RIGHT NOW. I was the same way the day they announced guild wars 2. I was super hyped. The hype died but I could content myself with doing new stuff in Guild Wars.

Now with GW2 I’ve gotten to the point where I feel like I’m done. Like I’ve beaten the game. There is no content I haven’t done yet or areas left to explore but I’ve gotten used to that fact and still do everything I can to enjoy the game as much as possible, but I’m tired of waiting for news. The last new news that was really enjoyable to learn about and made me want to talk to my friends who play and go “OMG DID YOU READ THAT blah blah blah!?” was the few revenant skills we got to learn about and then later test in the stress test and I’m ready for new news.

When I log into the game and talk about HoT there is nobody with new info. Nobody has anything new to say. All we can do is speculate, which was fun for a while, but after so much you hear it all. I’ve heard everything from “Thieves will be Snipers” to “Eles are going to dual wield swords”.

With April 1st just past I though for sure SAB would make a come back. You brought back the minis, and it would have been a perfect time to release something new or re release the old worlds at least, but again the opportunity was passed up for something mildly amusing and quite annoying after 15 min. I realize maybe resources weren’t available for SAB right then and there because of HoT, but if that’s the case can we at least get a little more info? Something we can sink our teeth into whilst we wait?

When you consider all we’re getting in the game atm are cosmetics, it feels very incomplete.

I’m hitting the 3-year itch (that point in an MMO when you’ve been there and done that and not that much is thrilling enough to occupy your time or attention). But I don’t want ANet to hype for the sake of hyping. They have a plan for offering hints and following up with details. That’s fine.

What I really want is new content, but I prefer to wait for it to be done right (or at least, as well as possible). The alternative is that they rush stuff and we end up with a great expansion with major blemishes or bugs.

Not with some of the parenting I’ve seen, they don’t. This was true with the previous generation, it is far far less common with the current one. It sticks through the teens and well into adulthood now.

I’am guessing most of the people who played long enough feel that way. Can’t be helped, game’s old, it’s been 3 years of same old, same old. Take a few months break or something. I hope AN learned their lesson this time and we won’t have to wait another 3 years for another expansion.

I’d say to go do whatever achievements you haven’t done yet, but you did say without grinding for hours on end, so I guess that advice isn’t going to work since there are soooo many grindy achieves.

take a break and play something else every once in a while…it works wonders. just back from a 4 month break (minus the occasional login to get the free LS episodes)…its fun again and i have new content to play. you forget how good/smooth the combat is and some of the other nice details of the game you get jaded to after a while of playing.

pretty sure i’m going to play this way from now on….a few months at a time with breaks of a few months. you feel less possessive/invested, and thus less frustrated.

I feel the same about a summary of Season 2 (Who needs that when we can just go in an play season 2 again…if you pay attention you don’t need a recap of season 2..) and a devs bio…

Nothing “NEW” regarding the game, what they gave us was useless information just to stall yet again…i’m starting to get a bad feeling…and i’ve been like super excited for quite some time now… But the info is so small and far in between it makes you wonder

You’ve not really offered up any opinion. All you’ve posted is the rather childish cry of “I want, I want, I want and I can’t wait!” and “The game is stale for me.” Who cares? Go play something else if you feel you’re done with the game until the expansion or whatever. No-one’s forcing you to keep logging in. At the end of the day, it’s a game. If you’ve got nearly 3 years of enjoyment out of it up to this point for your original investment in the box price, I’d say you’ve had a pretty good deal compared with most other games out there.

We all know there’s an expansion coming out. That will solve the “staleness” factor in the interim, although pretty much all MMOs/games in general suffer with players consuming content way faster than developers can produce more of it. That’s just the nature of the beast. With MMOs, the community usually sustains people’s interests in the long term when the content does get rather stale until the next batch is released. People just have to be patient in between those periods and either find something they can still enjoy to do in the game with friends, or find something else to do entirely in another game or whatever.

That’s the problem with Hype. Some times it just comes too early. All you can do for now, is to put the game down til the actual release date. They don’t want you to do that, but if you’re feeling burnt out, then stop for a few months. Come back later. That was GW2’s biggest selling point anyway, so make use of it.

yeah, I feel they shouldn’t have announced the expansion until they were a little closer, I thought Mike O’Brien said something like “after PAX East, things will get going very fast leading up to launch of the xpac”

I think he missed the day where he’s supposed to say “april fools”

since pax east, we got 1 closed beta, new borderlands map info, legendary info(but not really), storytelling/summary of story so far update

the closed beta was info we had already seen, the borderlands map was just adding visuals to what we were already told about it, the legendary info was basically re-stating the legendary crafting is coming(but not really telling us any new legendaries, that’s for another day), and storytelling update which should have never been removed in the first place

I understand what you are saying, and i agree, but maybe a blog post isn’t the way to do that.

We could use a part of the website with the whole history of Tyria, From the Beggining, during Guild Wars 1 and recent events in Guild Wars 2.

Me, my girlfiend and some friends, didn’t get a chance to play Guild Wars 1 (but i’m planing on buying it soon) so we missed on a big part of the story, yes i did read some of the history on the internet, but a interactive page with everything in Chronological order, maybe with some pictures… That would be great, if they want to do some “recap” that’s how they should do it.

Guild Wars 2 has a rich and beautiful history it’s too bad we don’t have an easy acces to it, like many other games offer.

So yeah i’m standing by my point, a 500 words(i know it’s more, i’m just trying to prove a point) blog post about what’s been before doesn’t cut it as “news” and it’s not really the way to make a recap.

Not trying to be mean, ungratefull, offended or anything but it’s how i feel, and what i’d like from them.

Also it wouldn’t be that hard to do something like i suggested.

This is very true. Something like the summary is very nice for returning or new players who’re being thrown into all of this. I think that it should have been released along with something for us veterans though.

agree that this week’s “preview” was lame, but theres not much to wonder about, or left for them to preview. Anet doesn’t (or at least hasn’t during GW2 lifespan) surprise us with unannounced big-ticket features. you already know everything that will be done…just not to what extent….and they aren’t going to reveal the true extent before the expansion is released.

you will get 1 new class and 1 “specialization” per class (which will be the extent of any new skills/traits added) which is mostly on par with GW1 expansions

you’ll get a few new zones (likely far less than a typical expansion)

you’ll get a storymode (less than the base game, but likely more than a LS season).

one new pvp mode/map (though oddly, it seems to be something you can’t specifically choose to play) and a few more reward tracks

one new wvw map

guild halls (this is actually worth wondering about…could add a lot, or not much at all)

precursor crafting/ masteries (lvl 80 horizontal progression) – the masteries seem to be mostly a way to gate content/ slow down the vultures who finish everything in 2 weeks….but we’ll see. could be good, and should certainly take a while to do them all.

adventures (scored/leaderboard quests) – seems like a waste

“challenging group content” – the other thing very much worth wondering about….i’m hoping this is not ONLY open world, but also instanced “raid-like content”…and instanced guild mission “raids”/content tied to guild halls.

all they have left to preview with us is specializations, guild halls, and “challenging group content”….and they have a lot of time left until open betas/release.

I agree 100% that it would be cool to have an on-site history of tyria. I have the special edition walkthrough book thing and it has at the beginning a “Story so far…” thing in it that’s very well done. I was thinking about copying it for people to see onto here. Good idea?

You’ve done a lot of assuming in your post ,which is fine, but what we actually know about the things you’ve listed is slim.

This kinda bugs me… I mean what does meeting devs in person, done everything in the game and owning alot of GW2 stuff have to do with being a fanboy… And the BIGGEST at that? So by being the BIGGEST fanboy gives you the upper hand doing ‘whine threads’ like this? Anet will listen to you more than us becouse of that? Doubt that.

What Anet have done at the time I guess is that they have released information on the most yummiest parts that is finnished enough to show us, so in time there will be more stuff but do not expect cooler things than a new class, Boarder for WvW, Masteries, PvP map. What we can expect information on (when Anet is ready to show us) is Guild Halls, Specialications and some more stuff I guess.

I do agree about bad content since Expac was announced but that is the prize for wanting an expansion. I in no way blame Anet for not be able to be working on two games at the same time. I also thought and hoped that SAB would come last patch and I got disapointed that it didn’t but again I can’t expect them to do wonders every day.

It’s times like this I’m glad I’m a Guns N’ Roses fan. When you’ve waited 15 years for one album nothing else seems that bad.

I’m really excited for Heart of Thorns and will be pre-ordering it as soon as it’s available and playing it on the first day.

But I can wait for both of those things to happen. Just like I can wait for information about it to be released. I’d much, much rather they take their time making the expansion as good as it can be and only announce things when they’re ready to do so than rush it and end up doing a bad job of both.

Maybe it helps that GW2 isn’t my only game or hobby so even if I had finished everything in the game (and despite playing since launch I’m not even close) I’d still have plenty of things to do without HoT.

Edit: Also if it makes you feel better one game I’m waiting for, a spiritual sequel to my favourite game of all time, is 3 years overdue and showing no signs of being done any time soon! So by comparison HoT doesn’t look so bad.

I dont have problem with waiting for xpac (except for revenant as i want to dust my main for good) but the lack of info is disturbing. The last good news we actually had was revenant blog which happened few weeks ago, since that basically not much info were given. We got to see revenant but we still have no clue what Glint/Ventari (we can guess what Shiro will bring at least) or what power/vit trait lines are all about and while weapons been datamined as well many of them are probably outdated concept like sword as i dont see it as hybrid weapon. At this point we have to w8 for another revenant preview week maybe up to 2 to see rest of his stuff

We also had preview of new WvW map which looks really cool and such but i dont see a reason for it to take up 2 weeks. We got a glimpse of legendary crafting but without showing off legendary weeapons itself as they come ..later in another blog and probably as HoT will launch there will be olny few legendaries to choose from and rest will come later with future updates.. It doesnt sound good. Also just like with revenant we didnt got a complete info.

Then we have some guild halls/challenge group contest which both probably will take 2 weeks each for no reason just like WvW. We also dont know how many maps will come so i guess thats another 3 weeks just for them to showoff and talking about them. And naturally we have specializations (9 weeks) everyone waiting for but instead we getting a blog about story – like wtf? I mean they could at least release druid specialization this week and next one necromancer, so we can at least guess what is coming to other classes while they can continue releasing blogs about other stuff but instead we getting a blog about story that have happened and we dont care about anymore.. Im kinda curious what first will come tho – full reveal of revenant or specializations.

You see, when they rush stuff out, you get a ton of bugs and and rusheh content like Zhaitan, and players complain about that.

When they did not rush things, players complain it takes too long.

They won’t ever fix it. There’s just no point redoing a single encounter which players do once and never do again.

They rushed it in the initial launch of the game do it could be on shelves by the deadline.

Not saying you lie becouse I think not. But I have googled and tried to search for this announcement after I read this… Can’t seem to find it. Maby you(or someone else) know where to find it?

I don’t really get these kinds of posts. People talk about hype like it’s some sort of good thing. It’s not. The only thing that really matters is if the game is fun when the expansion drops. Prior to it dropping whether there is hype or not is largely irrelevant.

People want to be kept in a constant state of excitement and it’s not reasonable.

Three years is a long time for any MMO to go without an expac and it has indeed taken it’s toll on GW2.

The problem with Hype is that they announced it then built up hype yet never gave any indication of a proper release date. Some people came back to this game on that wave of hype and they’ll leave just as easily. We’ve seen footage and gameplay but at this point it seem that Anet is more focused on taking the game on the road to these shows and expos than an actual release. They’ll take HoT around the gamut to E3 and beyond before they actually release the thing.

So yes hype will go down and TC is correct as they announced it early for the shows and that they’ll release it later for the same media coverage. By that point GW2 won’t be the only MMO totting a major expansion and the other companies will have plenty of time to time their own content and launches to steal any thunder available. This is a market and the longer they take parading the game the more time the competition has to prepare a counter.

trimmed for space

I realize that everyone’s situation is different, but after years and years of gaming and finding myself often in the mindset that you’re in right now, I came to realize the value of having hobbies and responsibilities outside of gaming, and how much binge consumption can really kill the longevity of a game.

That’s not to say your concerns are invalid, or that there isn’t room for GW2 to grow and expand. Nor is it to say that I wouldn’t love to hear more news myself, but more to say that (as rude as it might sound) get out and do something else instead of waiting around running in circles for the next scrap.

It will help, seriously. If you aren’t currently employed, consider taking on some part time, or full time work. If you are employed, take up a hobby that doesn’t involve the computer. The last bit is important, because as long as you are sat in front of your computer you will find it incredibly difficult to get away from thinking about GW2 or its coming expansion.

Do some, or all of those things, and you will eventually find yourself in a mindset where you will enjoy smaller doses of GW2 and not be stuck in an endless loop of what’s next. Especially since the game continues to grow, if you are digesting it in smaller chunks, the growth will quickly outpace your play times, so there will always be something new to experience.

Just a few tips, and I hope none came off trolling or judgmental because it truly is not meant to be taken as such. I’ve been there, it’s hard, and it sucks. Stay strong

Have you ever tried to find a 2 year old post when you don’t even know wether you read it in the german or english forum, let alone what sub-forum?

Edit: All I found was someone else who remembered the statement about a year ago. Can’t find the original ANet-Statement though.

If I recall correctly they acknowledged the issue and stated there were plans about revamping it… haven’t heard about that for the longest time.

Anyways, Borderlands final boss fight was worse because it failed even on a graphics/scenery level.

This just makes the lack of SAB all the more baffling. It was the perfect time for it to be turned back on. The content is already there, and after a year and a half there are loads of people who’ve never even played W1 and W2 so between them and the ones of us who love it (and have paid real money to play it) there’s no need for W3.

Pretty much all my positivity from the HoT announcement has gone again. Between SAB and traits, meh.

People want to be kept in a constant state of excitement and it’s not reasonable.

It’s also not mentally healthy.

What I got out of the OP: “Anet you absolutely have to give me the expansion right now cos I’m totally your biggest fan ever, in the world, in the universe. And because my declaration of fandom is so sincere I totally deserve, nay I’m entitled to getting the expansion now

While i apprecite that fact that it’s not another Devs bio…we already knew this stuff, they said those things at the very begining when they announced the expansion. It’s just a recap of things they already mentioned…

is it just me or do they stall and avoid talking about certain areas of the game that are much more important to the players, and they keep repeating themselves, and buying time.

I worry more and more that the expansion isn’t that close to being complete, usually you don’t say something that is subject of change, you’ll just have a riot on your hands if you change the smallest thing, but still too much secrecy and too much “we’ll tell you when the time is right” what i start understanding now is that by “when the time is right” actually means “when we have an idea what to do, cause right now we got squat and we are working long hours to create contet that we promised”

I tend to agree with certain ppl here on the forums, they had LS Season 3, and somehow decided to make a traditional expansion, so they kinda have the story, cinematics…etc but are now working on the actual specializations/legendaries/mastery system.

Don’t worry. They most definitely have someone doing social media analysis, and will post new info as soon as their hype measurements indicate a decrease in GW2 hype.

I said it at least twice yesterday and I’ll say it again:

The hype train was never meant to run constantly until release. If you think that it was, you’re insane. The fact is that ANet doesn’t give two kittens if you’re happy with their release schedule, because they know that regardless of how jaded you feel right now, come release day you’re all going to be racing to throw your cash at their feet and worship them as gods, until 3 weeks later when your lack of self control lands you right back in this slump, but it doesn’t matter, because they already got your money.

So how about you just learn a little restraint, get a handle on your emotions, and wait it out like the rest of us?

I think the announcement of HoT was overdone. What I mean by that is they announced a new borderlands for the x-pac except you don’t have to own HoT to play it. They conveniently left that out at the announcement at PAX.

They announced a new mode for PvP, which I thought, “Awesome! That is totally a reason to buy the x-pac.” Except, they left out the part where they are combining the queues for Conquest and Stronghold. You don’t have to own the x-pac to play Stronghold. So if you don’t like Conquest and are interested in Stronghold, you may end up having to play Conquest. Yuck.

The Mastery system is just gear gating by another name. Let me explain. You and I go into HoT. We are both level 80 in all Ascended gear and Legendaries. We are vets. I put Mastery Points into hang gliding and you put Mastery points into killing Mordrem. While you can defeat that Mordrem there, I can’t. That’s the same as gear gating. It’s just gating with a different name. Remember doing raids in other games where you literally could not defeat certain enemies without particular gear? Without very specific masteries completed there will be enemies you can NOT defeat

Colin talked about new Legendaries. Yay! We were all very stoked. We were getting an all new set of Legendaries. Except now it seems we are “getting a handful of new Legendaries.” That was included in a blog post weeks after the announcement hype train at PAX as almost a foot note with ArenaNet trying not to draw attention to it. Don’t worry though, “More will be coming later.” They said new legendaries were coming back in 2013. That was 2 years ago. Now two years later, we are still gonna have to wait. What gives?

If it’s anyone’s fault that the hype is going down, it’s ArenaNet’s own doing. A lot of how they made the x-pac sound when they announced it was classic over-promising and it could lead to under-delivering. Time will tell, but I for one am not going to drink the kool-aid without first knowing what’s in it.

We are also only getting one climate type: Jungle. No snowy tundra. No chapparal climate. No plains. After 3 months of playing, how sick of, “All jungle, all the time” do you think players will be?

Oh yeah, your precursor crafting? It’s all going to be collecting stuff for 3 year-old content. They haven’t said one way or the other, but in the precursor crafting post, if we were getting a bunch of new stuff to do in the base game don’t you think that would have been a selling point? I mean, with everything else at the announcement at PAX, they were overselling it so why not sell us on the new content for precursor crafting? Because it simply doesn’t exist is why.

Waiting for new content is very hard for me as I want everything RIGHT NOW.

Honestly, I dont find theres much hype at all. All I’ve seen is some previews for an amount of content that I’m really considering not getting, since I have to pay for it. Alot of the things they’ve previewed I have no interest in. New class that I’ve watched in action and not interested. New Legendaries, which I have had no interest in (and never had even in the current). New methods of getting Legendaries using 3 year old content. New PvP, WvW maps and class specializations are about all I’m interested in. The amount of content doesn’t sound like a very big expansion and they haven’t hyped me up enough to the point where I want to pay more than $10 for the content that’s being offered, because it doesn’t sound like they’re adding much to the game itself in terms of anything new to do that doesn’t reuse 3 year old content.
