My wife logged into her GW2 account to play the game for the first time in a few weeks today. Apparently her character was attacked and killed while she was in the process of logging in (logged out near the bank in LA), before she even had the option to act.

This annoyed her sufficiently to convince her to log back out. All of her characters are currently in LA. Is there a way to get them out of LA in order to log into them without this concern ?

Yes by reading the news or installing kitten, otherwise no.

Not that I know of. Originally they stated that chars logged out in LA would be logged back in outside of the city, but in reality they do log into LA and do die. Don’t know if they will be patching it either. Perhaps you could log in for her and move them if it is upsetting her. (and pay her armor repair bill)

There is a cinematic on log in, but she can replay that at an NPC at the refugee camps if you do move her out.

hehe I just realized all my husband’s characters are logged out in LA- next time he logs in he is going to be in for such a surprise.
I did warn him though

Most of my characters were sent outside when I logged into them. Maybe I just happened to log in during the 10 minute window when LA is inaccessible.

Of course, my throw-away level 11 did log into LA, but didn’t die at log in. I was surprised how long that character stayed alive. Lol.

I was looking at the map after I got defeated in an event and unless I’m doing something wrong, it seems it doesn’t let you zoom out past the LA level so only 3 waypoints are available AFAIK.

My apologies. The point was that referring to logging out of a video game as the, “overreaction of the year,” when the news is full of overreactions like police shootings, murder, etc seemed a bit off.

If you had not played in a long time and then log into LA as it is now it will be a shock.

Yeah, the waypoints are the exits to Gendarran Fields, Bloodtide Coast, and Lorner’s Pass.

If it was something that’s difficult to overcome, I could understand the reaction, but the solution here is to just WP out of Lion’s Arch and presto, the whole issue is solved.

But maybe that’s just me.

When logged in, you can pick a wp and leave and if you get killed before that, just travel to a wp and exit the area.

On topic, i have 4 characters i havn’t logged on to , parked in LA. i also logged in to LA and ended up stuck inside the banks vault.. with all that gold around i did mind dying a bit because eathers spawned on top of me..

I am afraid there is little to be done about it but waypoint the character.. shouldn’t be too much of a hinder.

no disrespect but some people really need to get grip. “Oh no I logged in dead! Forget this game im done!” are you serious right now? Yes, the 1 silver to wp is the worst thing that ever happened but once you wp and simple walk out of town things do get better

I logged in, died, some kind soul resurrected me and I died again – all before the game interface had finished loading and I could actually move or do anything.

Logging into a zerg slapped my PC quite hard.

I just thought it was amusing, shrugged, found an uncontested WP and repaired.

Try this: Log in ON the hour. LA will all be closed then and you should appear outside. The events start at 5 mins past the hour, so dead on the hour or even at 5 minutes to, should be a safe bet.

If you happen to log in near the end of the event cycle, all the wp’s become contested, included the 3 that feed into GF, LP and BC.

This is part of the event, it kills you and you get booted out to one of the adjacent maps (probably GF)

If you log in while the zone is closed, it will wp you out, that happened to me when I first logged in. Also if her character is dead why didn’t she just res at a wp?

So she died… Couldn’t she just wp and at least try the content before getting frustrated?
If she gets frustrated this fast, then omg, i can’t imagine such life…
