edit: obviously, 90% of you missed the point; the idea was that I can ping gear from inventory and they have no way of knowing if that`s what I`m actually wearing, so why even ask for pings?

Elitism most certainly is annoying, but in the case of builds that require a calculated amount of efficiency to actually successfully accomplish the goal that was set by the group, it makes sense.

For example, the CoF P1 Zerker Farms requires you to kill the bad faster than it can possibly kill you. If you’re not doing X amount of damage in X amount of time, not wearing the proper gear becomes an immediate detriment to the success of the team.

Pinging stats for gear is necessary when the application of any one individual’s skill is less important than the value of their armor stats. While rare in GW2, these can be the case.

That being said; I do not condone content that rewards reliance on gear instead of player skill and teamwork.

Thankfully from what I’ve seen these people are rare and usually fall into one of two categories:
1) Inexperienced GW2 players who haven’t realised (or are wilfully ignoring) that it doesn’t work like some other games and carrying on like they always have in other MMO’s

2) People looking to do highly specialised runs where you do actually need certain gear for it to work.

With 1 you can either (politely) explain that GW2 doesn’t work that way or ignore them. With 2 you can just ignore them, unless you’re also interesting in that sort of thing, in which case I assume you’d respect the need for certain gear.

As long as it doesn’t get to the point where every single person wanting to do a certain dungeon is wanting to follow an exact set-up because all they’ve ever done is follow a walkthrough and they’re not willing or able to deviate from it like the Underworld and Fissue of Woe got to be in GW1 I don’t think it’s a problem.

So you are on of the zerker warriors only P1 runs? Thats cute… Start open your eyes. Zerker warrior isnt the only good DPS in the game. Have you ever seen a necro being played the right way? I have actually tested it out with a guildie. Full zerker necro VS full zerker warrior against the gate controller. The necro got it down at around 2,5 sec, but the warrior used around 3,5. Wells + bone minions + dagger mainhand is INSANE dps

You could just not run with that group or make your own where you are setting the criteria. I find the guys who ask you to ping your gear annoying but if I don’t have what they are looking for I leave and find another group. Lying to them seems rather kittenty of you.

I can tell when the whole team isnt zerk. I can find a newb quickly. Serious farmers wouldnt do this. And if you do this all to grief a team, congrats, youll be kicked once they figure it out by the low DPS. Hope ya have fun griefing other human players because they dont do everything like you say they should.

However, I’m not a spectacularly versed dungeon player of any MMO’s really, so I don’t know what a “good” dungeon mechanic/system would look like using GW2’s combat. I really don’t want to see pigeon holing through holy trinity though, no thank you.

My signature says I’m a S/D thief. I got a zerk war but I don’t even use it for p1 farm.

My thief handles it better:
I can warp in and out of accolyte area and take 3 of em down without risk thanks to steal/sword #2 mobility (I even synchronize my #1 accolyte’s respawn with my cloak and dagger animation).

I deal with gate controller faster without having to have to retrait for effigy, so warriors save their stuff for initial effigy burst.

Sword thief offers 4 methods to deal with effigy’s attacks, can dodge, can use Withdraw to roll out of circle and instantly be back in melee with Steal/Infiltrator strike, can evade the hits with Flanking strike, or I can just drop a shadow return on him so I don’t get affected by knockdown. My sword AA chain deals above 10k.

TL;DR : if you don’t contribute to your party’s fast p1 run times, then you’ll get the boot. Bet it any profession/any spec/any gear.
You can’t complain that the bulk of p1 farmers are zerk wars though. They bring instant 25might + 25vulnerability + 190 power + 15% crit dmg + 190 prec + other stuff to whole party right at the beginning.

Max damage will stay the norm until there’s a reason to have toughness.

I always ping toilet paper or rotton eggs, goes down well usually…

That takes more skill. A zerker warrior in CoF P1 can be played with no need to dodge.

If people ask me to ping equipment, I leave the party and find someone else to run with. I don’t have time for people to be bad tempered and blame each other for the slightest mistakes.

Games are supposed to be fun. Save the uniforms for when we have to go out and earn money.

I used to be dead set against that sort of thing. But one day I wanted a group quickly and the first one to pop up was a gear ping one. The group was so much smoother, so much faster and so less frustrating that I completely understand why they do it now.

If I have the gear, why shouldn’t I join a run with similarly geared and skilled people. Sure i’m sure there are a few people out there who managed to get full ascended gear without actually knowing their class, but for the most part if you run with people in full ascended gear they know what they are doing and the run will be much smoother.

I mean I spent 20 minutes in CoF1 the other day because the group couldn’t put out enough dps to down the final boss through his healing. I ended up having to switch to SB and spam poison so they could outpace the healing, it was just sad.

Please, even without the Zerker pinging, I would not want to play in a team filled with a bunch of noobs who constantly fail and waste my time.

I recommend just farming both sets from CoE. That way you dont waste stones or money on gear. Then again if your farming CoE your probably masking more money then cof speed runs counting cores/stones.

MF has a nice place in dungeons, I’ve gotten more rares/exotics off general population/boss drops than from chests.

That said, I’m currently running a zerker ele build that is a fair bit above warrior in dps with the right setup.

And you are the reason why inspecting should exist. Sorry, I don’t want dead weight in my party (which you are), and gear checking is the best way I have to prevent that. It’s not effective, but ANet won’t give us the tools for it, so the least I can do is inconvenience you as much as possible.

PS: You’ll be kicked from my party anyways if you underperform.

Like I said a month or two ago, it doesn’t take much to grief these people. Not something I care to do because I’m too lazy to go through all that trouble, but isn’t hard to waste the time of those that request ping gear because they still can’t see the stats of your build so they don’t really know how optimized you are until they get to their checkpoint to see the dps of each individual. Still wasted the time of the ping gear people.

Really, I wouldn’t be so bugged by it if you ping gear people would stop using so many $ and make your LFM not look like someone with a mental deficiency had wrote it. I know I’m insulting those with mental deficiencies because someone with such a problem would still be able to make something reasonable.

I thought it would come off as basic common sense to understand when players wish to run specific builds.

Anyone who does such a thing is very inconsiderate, in my opinion!

The issue here is not whether or not the dungeon could be cleared. If you take a bunch of magic find users in blues, I’m sure it could be done efficiently as well. However, when a player is so inconsiderate that they lie about their gear just to force themselves in a group which wishes to run a specific team build, you’re not only ruining other peoples’ fun, but ruining whatever goal they were aiming for (be it time or reward-based.)

I think there are people that are just stuck in their ways in this game. I do not join groups that advertise ping gear.. and no I do not wear magic find.. however I do not find gear that important.

Last night for example I ran CoE Paths 1 and 2. The first group had a guy ask right away if we would be ok because we did not have a tank.. I informed him this game does not have tanks we will be fine.. and we were finished it with no problems. Then I formed a group for path 2, the last to join us was a guardian who right away asked if they were the only heavy, I told them yes and the left group.. we had a thief join after that.. OMG no heavy armor in the group.. lol.. we finished fine.

To me, do not join groups that want you to ping gear, if someone has a problem with not having heavy armor in the group they are free to leave. I have fun with people that are of the same mind set as me and am finishing dungeons fine.

This only times I see groups asking for full zerker besides CoF Speedfarm are level 40 FoTM and Arah. Maybe HoTW p1 speedruns.

Some people need to get out, and socialize more. This reminds me of when our school Basketball team needed an extra player for the finals, and the worst player lied to join them. Then he complained how the team didn’t like him.

Half the people in this thread didn’t even get the OP’s post. For those telling him MF is useless and he’s a leech, wooosh! This thread is about trolling the “elitist parties”, not being a leech. If OP didn’t know MF was a poor gear stat he wouldn’t be using it to troll, would he? Brilliant.

Back on topic, however. I dislike elitist parties. Mind you, I have all the gear they demand of me and could play with them no problem. However I main an Engi, so I get very annoyed when I see that over half the posts on GW2 lfg are CoF speedruns looking for ‘zerks. I usually find one or two groups in the cracks, but it’s endless farm spam. I never farm dungeons more than 2-3 times and I get enough gold just fine.

Honestly, I’d like to see CoF p1 changed and the overall (not just CoF) dungeon balance looked at to even out the rewards. Players should be able to run any of the dungeons to farm their gold. CoF and gear checks have always gone hand in hand it seems. I’ve never seen a lfg post that needs gear checks that ISNT CoF.

I’m not annoyed at the people for pinging gear, I just leave them alone and they leave me alone. To each their own right? However, their each and their own is becoming so prevalent that it’s infringing on my ability to find a group.

After a quick count, it seems that currently 37.4% of the posts are CoF. The second most prevalent being fractals, and then the rest of the dungeons seem to have a much smaller market share. I think that should be fixed, and I won’t have any problem with the CoF farmers.

The real problem is dungeon design. As long as max dps is the solution, then groups will doing gear checks like this.

The real problem is dungeon focus, not just design. We tried to tell folks about the problems this would make when they put in FotM oh well guess it’s not sinking in yet.

Oh and I find it hilarious that someone actually thinks it’s not that common, cmon now LOL let’s be truthful, it’s VERY common and it’s not only annoying it’s a very bad design.
Traits are even an issue, or do people actually forget that engineers and necros were denied access to dungeons after certain patches, and no that wasn’t anyone’s imagination or uncommon either. spsssh.

Keep in mind some people only run dungeons because they need the materials because suddenly that’s where everything is at, in dungeons and in WvW where if you try to farm something someone could come gank you, yeah that’s fun. They seriously need to remove DR and return loot to the open world like they had it the first month.

You set the filter specifically for CoF Exp.

People like to farm. Is it surprising? Stop trying to ruin their fun just because it’s popular.

Wish they would randomly lock escape routes during acolyte portion of CoF.

I don’t agree with what’s being suggested on this thread, but Toughness is great for many builds and people (though perhaps not for you). Not everyone should use full Berserker’s gear (or Rampager’s for that matter) just because many others do. It is not for everybody, regardless the myths continually propagated on this forum.
