To combat spammers, limit number of mails per day
No, I get that much per day from people. Whether it’s down to me in-game, or feedback for my youtube videos or plans for future. The only way to deal with them is instant I.P ban, or have various moderators on at all times.

Are you saying you respond to that volume of mail? o.o
I mean, I really don’t think anybody actually sends out that many mails per day.
Either way, what do you think of limiting number of mails containing coin per day? Only gold sellers need to send lots of different mails with coin.
I send out and receive a lot of mails since I craft for my guild.
My mail box is too small as it is.
Limit it only to people who don’t have you on their friends list and aren’t representing the same guild. Problem solved.

Since I can’t seem to quote-
This is an awesome idea, but I assume you had a typo because I really need to mail people in my Guild
We shouldnt do anything to the gold seller mails :P
Its better to have 1-2 mails per day from them , instead of 24/7 spam on the world chat :P
(1c per mail will hurt them , if u insist)
Why?
I smile when I’m sent gold selling mails, so I can report them and it’s -1 RMT account in the game.

I think you may have misunderstood. I’m saying if you are in their friends list or if you are in their guild then it won’t limit the amount of mail you can send to them.

It doesn’t work like that, though. You’ll continue to get mails from the same people for a while until arenanet does a large sweep. And then even when they do get banned they just buy another super cheap hacked account and keep on mailing.
They don’t need to further punish players with limits because of gold sellers.
They kind of do. Banning them is ineffective. Just use my modification to the suggestion and it won’t really punish legit players. And I’ll add another exception: Don’t limit if you’re currently grouped with the person.
As pointed out, the ‘easy’ fix is just to limit mails to X per time period (probably X per hour rather than per day) with exceptions for guild mates, friendslist and current group members. I’d wager 90%+ of legitimate mail is to one of those 3 categories so it’ll never hurt actual players.

The idea is it wouldn’t be punishing. Maybe I was wrong and people actually do send out large volume of mail.
Well, does anybody send out large volume of coin in mail? I doubt it. Either way the gold sellers send out many times more mails that contain coin than legit players could ever need to. That much is obvious. I don’t know what the limit for this should be, but there is a number that would severely cripple the gold sellers without having any effect on players.
Capping how many sells they can do per account per day means they need to buy more accounts just to run their business, which means they need to charge more to make a profit.
Ultimately the goal should be make it so hard for gold sellers to make a profit that they can’t compete with gems. Then they will disappear.

It’s easier: if you get like 50 reports of gold selling on a determined account → ban.
This is not a good solution because mail is the only way we have to give an item directly to another player.
My husband and I pass things back and forth all the time when we’re duoing together and one of us finds something that the other can use. I would be really unhappy if a limit on the number of mails per day prevented me from sending my extra food out to my guild mates after a craftathon. I give away extra dyes all the time too.
The solution with the least impact to players (not to developers though) is to do what the free e-mail sites do – spam filters and folders.

The only way to deal with RMT spam of any form is to ban the account after 100+ people report it.
Before people say that large guilds would abuse this, it takes 10 seconds or less to review the spam email and decide if it’s RMT spam or not. If people falsely report other players as RMT spammers you ban them. If 50% of a guild falsely reports someone as an RMT spammer you disband the guild. We don’t want griefers or spammers ruining the game for legit players.
Better solution: allow me to choose to only receive mail from players on my Friends List (or maybe in a Guild with me).
