Today's Maintenance?!
Not an expert but maintenance also means cleaning up existing files or fixing minor issues that don’t really make it a patch. So I would think it’s stuff like that. When files get corrupted for example they replace them.

Ditto, or they’ve identified potential buggy code and have made adjustments. Or they’ve introduced new code that doesn’t change front end game play only back end processes.
Feed them and they multiply.
Please do not feed them.

Ok i get you. Then you say “we find a bug/code/script that blablabla…”
Every file you download and patch your pc from microsoft you can read the article what it is about. I know it’s an extraordinary example but all other companies i’ve played their games was more and more honest about what is going on.
Even SONY was much more open to their customers when they were hacked.
You have rights to know what a kitten files downloading and patching.
That’s what i’m saying.
I’m a programmer and work for a software developer. We constantly make updates on the client side which our user don’t know about just because we detected potentially problematic code, optimizations and stuff that the end user will never see or know about because they don’t need to.
There was 600 files? I just launched the game after not touching it for 2 days and all I got was a 5 second launcher update.. And by that only the launcher was updated not the client..
Sea of Sorrows
I do see what you’re saying. I think it boils down to semantics. I read “No updates done, only routine maintenance,” as meaning the same as “Found and updated various bugs and issues with code.” The latter being a more transparent phrasing.

Arenanet is not going to divulge to you the method by which they patch their game because you have an erroneously developed sense of self entitlement.
If you don’t like that they don’t spell out what maintenance means for each individual game file in painstaking detail, you always have the option of uninstalling the game to be more comfortable with what is happening on your machine.
Have a nice day!

Harsh but true. :/ The EULA does give them the right to do so. Transparency is good even in a general sense though. (See prior post.)

The update did NOT involve 600 files. 10 of my guildmates did it at the same time last night and we were back online within 30 seconds.
/conspiracy mode on
They’ve injected new future bugs! Later they will pretend to work and remove them!
/conspiracy mode off
On a more serious note, this is disappointing. No bug fixes? Really? I would expect at least 3 minor patches daily fixing a dozen small bugs, considering the claims that the team size is multiple times larger than in other MMO’s.

I think you are overreacting. This is not a secret and Sony certainly wasn’t honest when things went upside down for the PSN a little while ago.
This is just maintenance and yes there will be some files updated. This is how it worked with GW1 as well. You are perhaps just not used to this.

I agree with the transparency point, but when they actually go out of their way to state that they didn’t really do anything significant in an update and it was strictly routine maintenance, I’m not sure a forum post sending everyone on a witch hunt with fingers pointed everywhere is a relevant course of action.

Congratulaions. Really nice solution. I really couldn’t think that. ty
Hello,
If anything is changed within the game, we will let you know through the Patch-notes. Otherwise, it is just standard maintenance, to make sure the game & server performances are optimised.
Thank you.
