Today's Update [merged]
I’m hoping this is substantially different from the template they used the past two times.
Hate to disappoint you, but it’s the same template. And even the same kind of event as the first leyline events.
Yep—good stuff but they still haven’t fixed defeat the harpies and rescue the villagers after 3 years!!!!!!!! Make me wonder if they can fix it or just can’t be bothered.
The new event is virtually identical to the past 2 events, but you do get a mail about it this time

Kind of lame but I guess it let’s them release content without too much effort to bide time until the actual season is ready.

Also this — they are polling us for a choice of name. I was torn between two of them but did vote on one.

I was hoping that “Commander’s Tag Alongs” would be an option…
What is really starting to bug me is the none reward for those last events. Massive XP. All my chars are 80 so its just a waste. Couldn’t even give it to a low char as it applies to the char that happens to do the last part of the event. What is that about? Removing end chest from missions now none reward events for many players. Anet you getting cheap.
“Added an option called Disable Player Chatter to the Sound Options tab. Enabling this option will disable all player chatter VO, such as boon and condition gain, mantra and shout lines, reward acquisition commentary, and low-endurance notifications.”
So does this apply to not only our own toons, but everyone else’s? Now we wont’ have to hear toons shouting their buffs every time! I am interested in seeing how this works out. At the very least, I would enable the disable option for certain races or classes, haha. Others, I have not as much issue with.

See, NERC? This is how you ask the internet to name something! Admittedly I was a bit disappointed Guildy McGuildface wasn’t an option, but choosing lore appropriate options for players to pick between is a good way to go.
Now if only I could choose between my top two.

In game mechanics terms they’re just normal dynamic events, so it makes sense that they would have the same rewards as normal events.
And since they seems to be setting the stage for the next living story chapter I think the focus is supposed to be more on what’s happening in the event than what reward you get for doing them. Admittedly it does mean once I’d done each event at least once I stopped doing them since there was no incentive to keep repeating them, but I don’t see that as a problem.

Going to quote myself from reddit:
But… they have a name.
It’s called Destiny’s Edge.
Also, something I don’t get is why is Taimi included when Caithe and Canach – who were there for killing Mordremoth – not? And if this is about the biconics, then why include Rytlock?
Honestly, I can’t even bring myself to choose any of these names.
- The Unbroken sounds like a name belonging to torture victems or ex-slaves.
- Eternity’s Guard sounds like a group that’s purely defensive – but Destiny’s Edge, born from Dragonborn’s Destiny and Edge of Steel, have always been a purely offensive group.
- Dragon’s Watch fits as their main goal is fighting the Elder Dragons but again, that name sounds defensive rather than offensive – it sounds like they’re a group watching for the rise of dragon activity, a name suited for when the dragons were still a rising threat instead of the current standing threat.
None of the name fits.
I VOTE FOR KEEPING IT DESTINY’S EDGE. The name has meaning, history, and importance to the lore. It fits thematically, as each of the group has ties to the original Destiny’s Edge member, and naming it something new feels like another case of ignoring the foundation of lore that was so present in Season 1. And for goodness sake, include Caithe and Canach in the listings! Stop hating on Caithe! She’s done nothing wrong to you, writers!
Edit: And I just want to respond to one line in the blog: “The winning choice will be revealed in the next season of the Living World story.”
Isn’t this a bit late? The voting ends in early July. This means that any and all voice recording for the group’s name either hasn’t been done and won’t be done until after July 8th, or was done with multiple variants. Does this mean that Season 3 isn’t going to be coming for months still?
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
With the new events, when the escorts set off from the camp, do the event and return, watch the pile of crates at the starting point. They appear to grow in number after each one. To the extent and purpose I don;t know. Probably just flavour

I haven’t tried since the patch, but I would imagine it does still.
In case anyone is wondering, the shard you get from the BL chests is worth 1g, no matter who you give it to
“For a limited time, every Black Lion Chest contains an additional Crystallized Magic item. These can be turned in to Priory or Consortium researchers for a reward. Players can choose which.”
I’m guessing this means you can choose who to give it to, not choose a reward. Badly worded, and i’m disappointed by the 1g reward, given that a key costs 40g in converted gold id have preferred if you could collect enough to get a unique skin or mini, atleast that would be interesting.
Ah I also assumed there were actual rewards. Saves me buying keys in which case
I, too, thought there would be rewards to choose from. But, alas, only an automatic 1 Gold.
Just an FYI…even if you have the Crystallized Magic item in an invisible bag, the Vendor takes it. Sigh.
It’s in the patch note today :
- The inactivity timer is no longer impacted by autoloot.
And bam ! If you try to find a workaround to stay online you become bannable for using macros or third party software.
Probably not disabling all of them …. but least it something. Now the next step is the auto-cast problem ..
(edited by Farming Flats.5370)
Auto cast was never the issue, it was the auto loot. Tested and verified and even patched out.
the issue should auto resolve now. Offenders will have to use external means to AFK farm again, hense perm ban for Exploiting, cheating, botting.

Yeah. There’s some “external” means if they really wanted to but chances are it would still fall under their policy.

What is your definition of “beginning”? It has never brought me back to the beginning.

I wonder… is this mail about helping someone do something in Lion’s Arch? I was cleaning out my mail of the “thanks for exploring [region]” mails and got ahead of myself and deleted what I think was a quest starter mail. (I looked on wiki but I’m not exactly sure what to look for)
Can someone share the details of this mail please?
It is from the Priory woman at LA saying they have discovered something interesting about the unidentified lodestone we handed in. Come see her for more info.
I’m paraphrasing obviously, but that’s the gist.

New parties are becoming interested in ley-line energy.
I’m hoping this is substantially different from the template they used the past two times.
I’m not sure what you mean by that. It’s like 99% of all other events. You do them and they succeed. What would a different template look like?
With the bandit events it’s more like bounties, and with the leyline events they are more like locations where energy is leaking. So they are already different templates if you want to call them that. I haven’t checked the new events out but people say it’s exactly the same thing (it’s events again which means it’s somehow the same? I guess? I dunno) I mean Events is how the some of these biweekly “living world”updates seem to go. How would you show progression of the world changing without events?
I’m just curious what improvements could be made that would make these things more engaging without them pouring alot of resources in like they did with living world 1 (And it doesn’t seem this is there to replace living story in the first place.)
Would it be “bad content” or “boring content” because it’s the only thing going on and it’s being hyper focussed and since they are basically like small extra events to show whats happening in the world of Tyria, they shoot past that as its basically the only thing new and people want way more than that. Which turns these smaller additions into “is that it? is that all? That’s not much” (Hence I wouldn’t really go all out with mails and achievements and leave it up for discovery. Maybe even no extra XP rewards as that also adds to these flavour events as if they need to be rewarded with something.
Because personally I like that more events get added, seeing the world progress.
If anything I would critique is that I personal would see things changing on a more grander OR more complex scale, affect events that are there being replaced with others rather than adding events in random locations. Though If they keep updating each of these new locations that also could grow into something pretty cool.

I’m not comparing it to other events…
It’s essentially having you go to a handful of places on a map, sit for 10 minutes, do event, and then hop to the next. It gets stale.
Imagine if the next five updates had you go to three other locations on the map, wait 10 minutes for an event, do event, and then hop to the next. According to you there would be no issue.
Finally we can put this behind us. Good job, ArenaNet
Well, they each give Champion Boxes/Bags, so I am not overly disappointed. The new Leyline ones are a bit different; I expect they will be easier (at least the gathering part) to do once the rush dies down.
Each of these maps now have more events with the possibility of better loot. There is no real need to sit around and wait for 10-20 minutes. They aren’t going anywhere…at least, until Season 3, I would guess.

Thank you
According to you there would be no issue.
Why would I ask you what the issue is if according to me there’s no issue?
I don’t even understand how your brain figured that out.
I took issue with the past two updates being practically the same but you claimed that they weren’t. I then created a hypothetical scenario where the next several updates do exactly what I claimed that the previous two updates had done.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
Just because they have the same issue doesn’t mean they are indentical.
I didn’t say identical because that would mean they were exact copies. Notice in my first post I said template. This could also mean formula or structure.

Correction then, Because they have the same issue doesn’t mean they are practically the same. You’re basically saying that all events are the practically same because they all have timers that, if focussed on, you have to wait for to “spawn”.
I’m not comparing the “issue” that they may or may not share…
Please read my other posts if you’re going to continue this as I have already explained it. Thanks.
You wanted them to be substantially different. I asked what is not different about them. You say you have an issue with the way you have to wait for the events to spawn. Which is always going to be the case if you’re going to specific events.
I know you’re not comparing, but I definitely am, because it clarifies what exactly is the issue.
Maybe you should be more constructive with your feedback rather than attack people because you can’t look at the bigger picture.
I don’t really see any attack here, seems you are being a bit overly sensitive and more than a bit obtuse.
The problem is quite the opposite.
Sure thing, have fun with the victim card.
They could always do it Homer Simpson style and use a dippy bird to hit a movement key.

Haha! I wasn’t the only one to think of that. xD
Going to quote myself from reddit:
Maybe you should also quote your tag line: " Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story." — seems like that’s a good reason for why Rox, Braham, Jory, Kasmeer, and “the commander” should have their own name, that isn’t tied to someone else’s history. (And by the way: I think everyone joining the commander is part of Dragon’s Watch or whatever it will be called; I am not too concerned about which images appear on the website today.)
Mind you: I don’t like any of the new names either; none of them do justice to the group (one sounds like the name of a sentry tower and the other two are worse). On the other hand, I can tell you that I won’t care at all about their name in six months — all that I’ll care about it is whether ANet told a good story and included fun events, activities, instances as part of the telling.
You get achievement points!
These aren’t just from chests, they also drop from the new events. Gotten 2 so far.
Thanks for the info, guys. I’m going to skip going out of my way to buy keys then.

When I saw the patch notes, that’s the type of reward I was expecting. Some new cosmetic or consumable item. The wording is somewhat misleading, making it appear that we will get a choice of rewards, not just a 2.5% return on the key’s gold value. It’s easy to look up the item and check before buying, but that’s no excuse for the wording in the notes.
Stating that it “can be turned in to Priory or Consortium researchers” already establishes the choice between NPCs. And even that is something of a false choice, aside from a few lines of text from the NPC and the lore/RP aspect of the exchange. There is no functional difference in the ‘choices’.
