Tome of teleportation
Nice idea.
So far I have a Royal Pass, a home portal stone, a Hall of Monuments portal stone. a Bloodstone Fen and a Bitterfrost frontier portal as well as one of those goggles that port you to a spot inside Bitterfrost. I’m confidently expecting ANet to add even more portals as I bet they’re popular items to buy with map currency.
ANet may give it to you.
So…the Teleport Book from Archeage. I’m not really opposed to the idea.
I would just rather they first fix the seemingly endless keys and new currencies that (they say) might one day end up in our storage inventory.

This would certainly be nice to have. And it would free up those shared inventory slots for players that have multiple teleport items
I would enjoy having an item like this.
This is a great idea. We could also use a bookshelf in our home instances. That would clear up the growing numbers of books in our inventory as well. It would also be a great way to let us read lore in game.
So here’s an idea for all those scrolls, passes and various items that allow us to teleport to certain places. The Tome of Teleportation would have a list in built, that you access by right clicking, with all the locations you can currently teleport to with in game items. When you gain a teleportation item (the royal pass for example) it unlocks within the Tome, allowing you to either keep the scroll or delete as you see fit. The Tome would also count as holding said items for areas like the Royal Terrace, which kick you out if you do not have the pass on you.

Yep, that’s my problem with multiple port items currently hogging half of my shared slots.
I have almost a full row of 10 in my bank filled with teleportation related items. Condensing that a bit would be nice.
Their are town portal scrolls permanent item, but they are expensive to make. The LA one cost ~1000g. The only one I have is the rata sum one it is the best city anyways :P. Also if you are feeling adventures you could buy a few twisted clockwork portal devices. They will port you anywhere. Sometime they will port you to places they are very difficult to get to, they are expensive and consumable.

Same issue as with stuff for a keychain: lock picks, keys, acid, machetes, and so on.
And now for BitterFrost, you have to carry around soulbound feathers, suet, eggs, etc.
Lots of stuff is getting added to the game taking up inventory space, but nothing is being added to help us manage them.
I would really like additions to the game that lets us manage these “inventory collections”, an increase for the number of allowed shared inventory slots, an increase in the number of bag slots per character, an increase in the number of bank slots, and an increase in the stack size of items in the bank and character inventory.
Several of those things are already gem store items, so they would also help generate some direct revenue for anet.

Like me!
I’m less sure about having a book for the time-limited teleports, though. 2-week royal passes and what not. But any permanent teleport item should definitely go into a single item.

Love the idea! I, too, am getting worried about the increasing amount of teleportation items this game puts out there for people to purchase. A container for all of those (like an unlock item you describe) would be perfect!
They could also add them as icons across the top of the screen with the other small icons to free up shared inventory slots.
This is a fantastic idea. I hate having to choose which of the teleport items to put into my shared slots and if I had a single book that I could add the various scrolls to I might consider buying some of the other convenience scrolls. I have:
Royal Pass
Airship Pass
Home Portal Stone
Hall of Monuments Portal Stone
Bloodstone Fen Scroll
Ember Bay Scroll
Bitterfrost Frontier Scroll
And I don’t have the space to keep all of them with me. I’d love to switch it up and go to the airship or DR, or maybe have my home portal stone handy for an afk spot and visit my cats. A single item that you can unlock the various teleport spots would be super helpful.

And unfortunately I think this is also why we are not likely to get such an item in the game. If people could fit all of their permanent teleport items into a single slot, it would create less incentive to buy additional shared inventory slots, since you wouldn’t need as many anymore.

Sure, I’d love for a convenience item to consolidate all the scrolls. (I’d even pay an extra 800 gems for it.)

I don’t understand this argument. There are already plenty of incentives to purchase shared inventory slots; consolidating the handful of portal scrolls isn’t going to reduce the demand by much, if at all.

And yet, I can see a possible opportunity in it.
Release 4 scrolls, sell 4 shared slots.
Make a Mystic Forge recipe that uses those four into a Tome of Teleportation III
Three freed up spaces! Thanks, ANet!
Release 4 more scrolls over the next year. Now we have to buy another slot.
Tome of Teleportation IV, three freed up spaces!
Repeat until heat death of universe.
That’s a cynical view, of course. :P
I think ANet might consider the teleport tome thing once it can be implemented. Probably via “if item is used, add it to teleport book destination list” or something.
To think of it, it might be nice to have the Rift Stabilizer remember non-null patterns in a similar fashion.

They already did a condensing forge recipe for the Infinite Fractal Tonics (which saved me a nice 2 shared slots). That’s kinda were I got the idea for the tome.
I know it’s been requested a few times here before, but it would be REALLY nice to have a “book” or one slot item to combine our ever-growing collections of scrolls, portals, and other “insta-teleporters” into one slot.
With each new episode in LS3 adding a new scroll, more “special area” passes coming out, and the general growth of inventory, I’m sure this would be appreciated by many players. Hopefully not a technically hard item to implement, and certainly a QOL improvement, acquisition could lend itself to a gold sink or gems (or a free X-mas gift for all :-)

Both could probably find more Dev notice in the ‘QoL Suggestions’ Sticky above.
Good luck.
They should have just made them like waypoints. When you zoom the map out for example, dungeon icons stay visible and at their normal size. These would be the same.
I really like this idea.
I don’t have many teleportation items because I don’t find them that convenient to use. Either I have to carry them all around with me all the time (which means putting them in my shared inventory slots) just in case I want to go to that location or I have to leave them in my bank and then I have to go to the bank to get them – which means either going to the Heart of the Mists and back or to a town (probably via the Heart of the Mists) – and then it seems easier to either just keep going through gates to my location or use a Waypoint.
If I could combine all of them into 1 item, so I can keep that with me and choose where to teleport to each time it would be far more worthwhile to buy them.
I’d also suggest including the Teleport to Friend items, if it’s possible. I’m not sure if that would work since they might work differently to items that teleport you to a fixed location and they’re only single use. But if they can be included it would be helpful.

Sure, there are slimey business/marketing practices in all industries. But there’s not really evidence that ANet is motivated by such petty considerations, especially when the game’s design already accidentally offers so many incentives to buy shared slots. There are so many better ways in this game to get people to spend gems that only a really incompetent gem shop team would argue against consolidating items, especially when they can charge for the consolidation itself.
As someone that’s maxed out on shared inventory slots, I still want this. I feel like I spend too much time preparing to go to a specific area instead of actually playing. Do I have the map currency, food / utility boosts, keys and all that? Most of the time, yes, because of shared slots. But lately, new maps = new items & currency. And new ways to get there. Ember Bay even has two, the portal scroll and lava lounge pass. I wouldn’t mind being able to get a few more shared slots, but I’d prefer a way to consolidate AND share.
So for the tl;dr crowd:
The Tyrian Passport: for all scrolls, passes, portal stones, teleport to friend, watchwork devices, and rift stabilizers. Double click for your list of destinations.
The Apothecary: food, utilities, consumable boosts, temporary and endless tonics. Added to the inventory window, similar to the wallet, double click to use.
The Keychain: all your keys and stuff to open…other stuff. Also used like the wallet.
The Curio: craftable for your home instance; account unlock. Stores special event items and trophies: candy-powered matter meter, krait obelisk transcriber, Tassi’s relay golem, and I’d even argue to have legendary (Juggernaut, Nevermore) volumes added, they were NOT easy to get.
If I were more of a packrat, I’d be a Skritt, but I don’t keep shinies, I keep trophies. Anet, please help me maintain my inventory, trophies, and some sanity by implementing some of these ideas.
Zombie | God | For the Pass!
Great idea. It would be nice to have these all accessible like that. It has the potential for being a collection as well, but I’m not sure how I feel about gemstore items being part of a collection.
