I got into this situation where i want to make another character to help out my guild in raids but i can’t because i played only PvE since i started gw2 (ofc i made some in meantime).
Yet when i wanted to create another one i was low on Tomes of Knowledge and when i asked where to farm them i was sent to PvP and WvW.
Just curious, why people in PvP and WvW can exp more characters and PvE players have to spend tens of hours exping?
Yes i get them from daily loggings too but i have to wait like half a year to actually be able to exp my new char.
I had in total like 7 80s and i have friends with like 15 chars and 200+ tomes of knowledge.

There are PvP rooms just for PvE characters to do the Dailies.

Yea but PvP ppl dont go to PvP to farm tomes. But i as a PvE player i have to go to PvP even tho its not etertaining at all to farm tomes.

You can always farm gold and exchange for BL keys. Players are always lamenting the fact that they receive ToKs in chests.

You can do as many Dailies as desired, and exchange Writs of Experience for ToKs. Some WvW Dailies don’t even require one step foot in WvW, and the Chest includes a ToK.

Purchase Bags of Educational Supplies through your converters or Guild Commendations.

Basically because in PvE you get actual XP, in PvP/WvW the XP is given artificially through tomes to mimic leveling.

WvW is quicker than PvP for getting tomes imho. If you can, do some of both WvW and PvP just for daily pots if you want.

You can get Writs from PvE dailies and trade 20 in for 1 tome.

Daily logins grant 10-16 tomes per month (I would not recommend choosing the 6 tomes over the laurels or ascended materials in the Chest of Loyalty however)

Only the Transcendent Chest of Knowledge, grants a tome, you only get this with Daily Keep Capturer.

But trust me, when you don’t need tomes, you’ll swim in them. I have maybe nearly 2 stacks, and I just consume them for shards, which I also don’t need but it stores it infinitly in the wallet.

Ahh, my bad. I didn’t notice the difference in Transcendent Chests. Still, one receive potions, and many tracks give ToKs.

Because you don’t receive actual XP in PVP or WVW. So the Tomes are the only thing you can level with.

Just to WvW, edge of the mists and follow the zerg. Easy tomes.

Remember too, that legendary crafting seems to require a ‘gift of battle’ from wvw or pvp.

PvP people get tomes so they don’t have to PvE to level toons. Those who PvE already … play PvE; they don’t need as many tomes.

Everything you do in PvE awards XP, except using the TP, chatting, and sneezing.

So my question remains: how long is it taking you to level up to 80 in PvE? How about in PvP?

pro levelling tips. use boosters food, utility’s and banners etc to level faster, kill mobs on the edges of maps. they get killed the least, so will give the most EXP. if you play a ranged class, get your friends to take you to some level 80 zones and stay back from the mobs while they pull and tank them and you tag them for the EXP. map completion also offers a big chunk of EXP too. So mapping all the starter zones and cities first is a good way to start.

I play a bit of everything, I currently have 800+ ToK, not to mention all the level boost scrolls from birthdays. and just for the record, I have 11 characters, only 1 of them was levelled 1-80 with out ToK, 4 where partly levelled 30-40 then finished off, the rest where ToK to 80 from creation. So yeah, getting ToK not that hard.

WvW / EOTM = join a group (also known as zerg), run for objectives with a commander (also known as karma trains) and after some time you’ll have enough tomes to level a character 0 – 80. Easiest option imo.

I would anytime exchange the tons of Tomes which PvP Players are getting for playing with the tons of Gold which PvE Players are getting for playing. ;-)

any pvp or wvw reward track gives oodles of tomes. pop in once a day to do a couple dailies in each, progress your track with pots, boom. easy tomes. i have 300+ tomes and 11 level 80 characters and im gonna start throwing tomes away because its annoying. only been playing for a year, too
