When you read the class boards, it seems like everyone is unhappy. Lets see if I can summarise things

Elementalist: Half the posters feel that the class is intended to be used only by the elite of the elite and everyone else should play Warriors. The other half feel the class is overly complicated and under-rewarding their efforts.

Engineer: The implementation of kits is problematic and elixirs too random, resulting in a difficult and unreliable experience.

Guardian: The lack of an effective ranged option cripples the class, especially in WvWvW.

Mesmer: The class design is awful and it is unworthy of the name Mesmer (too different from GW1 Mesmer), but there is an effective class here just screaming to be released from confused mechanics.

Necromancer: The class mechanic is awful unless you focus your build around it, which then makes other builds under-powered in their lack of an effective class mechanic. Half the players consider the basic class design boring.

Ranger: Some players do like having a pet for a class feature, some want more/less/different weapons, some consider the basic class design boring, and almost all want the pets dramatically improved.

Thief: Generally happy, other than spammy noobs reflecting badly on all players of the class.

Warrior: Generally happy.

I have intentionally skipped `bugs’, because I believe all classes share that issue. I also skipped the downed skill, because every class (apparently) has the worst downed skill and (apparently) every other class has one that is better, but only our class (apparently) does not :P

Can we have a happy thread? I am a little down from all the constant negativity. What makes you happy about your class(es) of choice?

Elementalists are NOT overly-complicated, if anything they need more depth. I chose Elementalist only after getting bored with the overly simple combat of Warrior/Ranger/Thief… Elementalist so far is much better but could still use additional weapons… But absolutely nobody needs less weapons, I don’t know how anybody could argue that…

Love my ranger. Don’t find it boring. But I am doing some things to keep it fresh.
1. Continue to get new pets. Test each out to determine their strengths.
2. Continue to refine my build.
3. Love my weapon setup. Now I am trying out new things based on the situation.
4. Running a trap, dual bow build. This is requiring me to move a lot more. Have to run in to lay traps (most mobs do not come to me when I’m in groups). Also, have been getting better at flanking and dodging.

I have played ranger/hunter class in many MMOs and single player games. Most are about bows and pets. If you don’t really like either, I guess it would get boring after a while. Personally, I like the different combat choices that I have – can go with strong pet, can go with condition damager, can focus on dps, can focus on survivability, etc.

the joy is IN GAME, where one builds skill with said professions, and not on the forums where noobs whine before even attempting to adapt and learn.

still theres always room for improvement and additions to make everything more varied, and fun to play. ut ust takes some imagination from the devs and the power of programmers…… sometimes artists too….

I’ve got one of each class.

I like 8 of the classes in this game. But the rest of them suck.

The people who complain a lot, in my opinion, really don’t know enough about their class…

Some of them are playing it like “X” from MMO “Y” and wondering why that fails. Your thief is not a rogue, nor a rouge. Your elementalist is not a mage. And your Guardian is not a Prot-Paladin.

Some of them picked A when they really wanted B – but a B that had the name A
(rangers with no pets: this is known as thief or warrior. Thief or warrior with pets: this is known as ranger. If this hurts you, just get a pen and write the word “thief” over where the name of your profession appears on your monitor.)

Some say they want an MMO that is different, but when it is handed to them they gripe about everything that actually is different, and then point at the familiar similar things and say “see, this MMO is 123% identical to my old MMO.”
- And this seems to be the big issue at the moment… though none of them want to admit it. This, plus people who insist they know everything, so when confronted with something they don’t know, they get angry.

Take a lesson from Socrates: The path to wisdom is to insist you’re an absolute fool. That way, anytime you find something new; it presents an opportunity to learn and enjoy becoming wiser. You get to be smarter and happier.

I’m very happy with the Guardian. So happy, in fact, that I pushed one to 80, then promptly rolled another (who is now 51).

I’m also critical of the lack of ranged options and am an advocate for Guardian Longbow. However, my criticism of Guardian Scepter/Staff does not preclude my love of the profession. Rather, being passionate about my favorite profession necessitates advocacy for change and improvement.

Are you saying they’re wrong? =p

Most of those are valid complaints imo.

Despite my Necro’s issues, I’m still enjoying him for the most part. Sure atm I am getting a little stale of the limited builds/traits etc. But I love the aesthetic and theme of the class and can pull off some satisfying combo’s for dmg/survivability.

I’m basically being patient and hoping Anet delivers on bug fixes and making things more exciting (like traits).

Hey sweet, I made a post like this too. Just not quite as organized.

I must not have had enough time with the game yet (had it since launch, but not much free time) because I’m still loving everything. I enjoy all three classes I’m playing, but Guardian is quickly taking the cake in simple fun. The other two are Necro and Mesmer, which are enjoyable too… but something about the game mechanics makes bashing enemies with big weapons incredibly enjoyable.

Warrior: Generally happy.

eh? i don’t know a single warrior that’s happy about being pigeonholed into using a greatsword because everything else is inferior in certain areas of the game ie. 5’s tourneys.

Well, I’ll go on record as saying I love my Thief. If I get bored with the way she’s playing, I’ll switch out her weapons, slot different skills, refocus her traits, and have myself an entirely different play experience. I love the face that I can so easily alter the way my character interacts with the game, instead of her being given one mechanic and being stuck with it until she dies. The flexibility in this game has, for the first time ever, made me choose not to be an altaholic, but play one class to the near exclusion of all others. (I tinkered for a couple levels with other classes, but none of those got above level 5 before I went back to my thief)

I’m sorry I stepped outta yer box, don’ worry, if
ya whine enough they’ll put me right back.

The way they decided to setup skills and talents does not leave for much variation contrary to what they preeched.

People are getting bored with useless skills and under powered / underwhelming weapon skills. Some are just boring…but your STUCK with them after level 3-4 which you can easily unlock all of your skills lol. You can only do so much with the traits and trait points.

The only cure for peoples frustration and boredom will be for them to get moving and fix the bugs/class balance ASAP. Content is not coming anytime soon so they need to get on the stuff that matters.

Slow patches on release …kill mmo’s. I would have gladly paid subscription if it meant them hiring more class managers or just more employees to focus on bot reports/banning or bugs.

But i guess they got our initial $60 so its no rush…

The design of the classes is excellent, there’s not single one that isn’t interesting or desirable one way or another. Unfortunately only the Warrior and Thief can really be considered finished. The Guardian is close but the others feel like they really need to go back to the drawing board.

So yeah, I can say I love the way the Mesmer makes clones of himself to tank for him, that the Elementalist has a huge range of skills available at any time, or the way my Engineer can prep the battlefield in advance. In reality though I play my Warrior because I love the way she’s finished and has a range of abilities that actually work. I always prefer to play magic classes in MMOs but none of them are functional.

I love all my classes and think each one is well designed. I play mesmer, thief, necromancer, guardian and elementalist. I plan on making an engineer at some point too. The only time I haven’t been too keen on a class is before I’ve found a build with them that fits well to my playstyle. Once I have this worked out on a class everything else about them just seems to slot into place. Which is the best piece of advice I could give to anyone not happy with their chosen class: just keep at it trying new things until you find something that seems to fit. If there truely is nothing, it may be worth looking at other classes.

not everyone is unhappy, happy people just do not flood the class sections with complaints. I play an engineer e.g. and I personally find the complaint you cited ridiculous. Though from what I read, Necro seems to be really in need of some overhaul.

I like the Necromancer, just everything that was supposed to make it unique is either broken or performing extremely sub par. It’s condition management and minon skills are either bugged or working worse than Mesmer’s (closest class in playstyle).
