Too much crafting?
I’ve noticed that at 80, most of the shinier or living story related things are unsellable craftables, like the new amber bug trapped weapons. I find it rather annoying that, as a person that hates crafting with a burning passion, there is no other way to get these shinier things, they don’t drop, nor can they be bought, it seems. I can’t think of a way to alleviate this other than allow them to be purchased on the trading post. Would give crafters more revenue I spose.
As an aside, I would love to see crafting materials like dragonite ore and bloodstone dust be sellable, I have so much of both that I’ve just started deleting them as there is literally nothing worthwhile I can do with it as a noncrafter. At least put in an NPC that converts the ore into rocks we can toss at other players for our amusement.
Well, you can’t sell ascended items either, they are account bound. No, the point being this is another tier of items (by look not by stats) and since they are above Exotics (even though they are the same technically). it is like Celestial items being bound – it is the same reason.
They should be buyable, or droppable, or grindable, or somethingable, though, at least. As it currently stands there is no way I can get these items whatsoever, save for crafting, and, as aforesaid, I hate, hate, hate crafting with every last molecule of my being. I don’t mind the other way being harder than crafting it directly, or more expensive, so long as there is a way around everything being gated behind an anvil. For instance, the ascended weapons and armor could be purchasable for a ludicrous laurel amount, as a tertiary path to getting. It would be something to grind towards.
Crafting in this game is 100% easier and faster than 99% of every other mmorpgs i played,
But i also dislike crafting tho i will sooner or later max them with gold when i no longer need it. I have found 2 Amber’s so far in about a week after hitting my first 80 and will probably end up just destroying them i also don’t care for the look would rather sell the Amber for a gold or 50s or something
If they wont make them anything but account bound then why not allow for a crafter from guild to make these item for a another guild member. Could be done as a rep bought function.
Why not allow for guild crafters. There could be rep bought craft stations that allow for an item to be crafted for guild members only and not to be sold on auction house. This would keep all these account bound only item to be put to use for those that dont craft.
They could also make recipes a 1 time use that needs to be puchased.

“WTS ascended weapon (spot in guild). First send me a money by mail.”
Better items require more efforts and it’s completely fine. It’s not all about money.
I’m not the biggest fan of crafting in here either. Have to use guides if I want to perfectly maximize my resources without going over or under. I’m not saying make it like Skyrim where you craft 1000 daggers and you’re able to dragon Daedric armor haha. I’m sure in time all ascended gear is going to be sell-able on the trading post. Every other rarity already is, they just want to push people to work for these items right now so it keeps them playing.
I also detest crafting and can’t fathom it at all without an online cheat-sheet to follow. I was discussing this with a Guildie the other day who could craft Noah’s Ark if she put her mind to it. She said that after all the work she spends making Ascended items, she’d feel cheated if we could get them in some other way. But what about how I feel? I feel cheated that I can’t get Ascended items at all right now! (And no, I am NOT prepared to wait 1000 years for Fractals or Boss RNG drops to get a full set of a specific look/stats).
For those of us with no crafting skill (or inclination… it’s boring!) I would love to see other ways of obtaining Ascendeds. Laurels+Ectos at the Laurel Merchant? Reward for completing some elaborate, difficult course of action? Or yes, buying them from other players. Something other than crafting, PLEASE!

Loot rewards can’t fit every style of play. If top loot is crafted then the non-crafters are unhappy. If the crafters have no top loot to craft then they’re unhappy (jewellers) and ask for stuff to craft even though it servers no game purpose.
At the moment, crafting seems like chosen way for the designers to add gold sinks and time sinks into the game.
I sort of agree that there should be more concrete ways of getting ascended gear than just crafting. This seems like an oversight to me. I’m not really sure of the reason for it.

Originally they said that they would look into alternate means of acquiring ascended gear. I know that they have a lot on their plate so it is possible that they forgot or that it is just not a particularly high priority.
I am hopeful.
If the Devs change the acquisition of Crafted items, then they must change the acquisition of Dungeon items, as well, for all those that don’t care to run Dungeons. And every other type of content-specific item.

Not sure that I agree that they, “must,” do anything of the sort.
Also not arguing against it.
I do think that there is a difference between a skin and the statistically best gear in the game. Personal opinion only of course.

Cool! Let’s do it!
(Actually, I’m not the one to confirm this, but I read a forum post that seemed to suggest you can get Dungeon gear from PvP these days?)

well it isn’t really crafting. it’s more having the materials in your bank/inventory, clicking a button, then magically getting the item while your character stands there doing math homework.

There is nowhere to hide.

Partly due to developer priorities, also ascended/Legendary gear is a niche thing that many players don’t even care about- it’s assumed that hardcore players will focus on these because they were designed for that style of play and therefore involve more effort than most parts of the game. But the majority of players are casual, so they are more of an afterthought than a major goal for most of the player base.
So it’s more of a “something we’ll get to eventually” thing than a priority for the devs.
