really? does this not scream in everyone’s face about every nerf/grind this game has become? Or what direction anet is wanting it to go.. My heart, Its hanging on a thread.

I do love the new stuff, everything is beautiful. But even for me, its plan to see that sugar coating “making it harder, or nefing to fix our economy” Is really saying, We want you to buy our gems. Not make gold and buy our gems. hooray Korean Cash Cows!

Yeah, it was like a dagger to the heart for me when I saw that. They dont even deny it anymore, they straightout say it. “Buy gems for gold guys, since we removed all the other ways of making gold C:”

3 years of my life spent on this game, I love this game, and they do this to me? Nothing makes me more sad, than to see what arenanet has become

The point at which I knew they were headed down a slippery slope was when they tried to make it so you could only buy gems with gold in certain increments. The community responded awesomely though by letting ArenaNet know in no uncertain terms that it was unacceptable.

I have issues with some of the blatantly terrible business practices that ArenaNet try to pull sometimes that some members of the community try to defend, but it was really reassuring to see when the community saw through that garbage and banded together to let ArenaNet know they wouldn’t tolerate that. They keep trying though.

The new glider/outfit bundle is the latest debacle. ArenaNet are outright telling people who don’t want HoT that they don’t want them using the gem shop. Why would I EVER buy a bundle that has a glider skin in it if I don’t own HoT? Sell that biz a la carte please.

I really wish they would take a page out of Gazillion or ZeniMax’s book and return to a cash shop that has more options. Sure, sell the bundles. It’s a good deal. But don’t cut off your nose to spite your face by alienating players from the gem shop who don’t want HoT. It’s not our fault we love the game but don’t see anything appealing about a fifty dollar x-pac that doesn’t seem worth the money you charged for it, ArenaNet.

as i too call bs, Unless you are a TP Baron, where did i ask for a guide for money? what?. I literally said nothing about earning money, They nerfed it to “Fix” our economy, that was them sugar coating that they didn’t want people buying gems with gold. Along with them still sugar coating it. But they do stuff like this.

Odd, I’m making more Gold off mats than ever before. And exchanging that Gold for Gems as the rate has been more lucrative lately.

I guess the ‘fix’ was undesirable for dungeon-runners, but great for us lowly casual gatherers.

Same. They dumped a whole lot of nerfs and so-called balances to the market before and after HoT released. T6 mats prices took a dive all the same.

Then dungeons are dead, and they’re more focused on promoting raids but to get further in raids you’ll need ascended gear. And the prices for the mats to make each kind of set skyrocketed since then.

Now with them admitting they’re openly encouraging gem to gold conversions.. I’m only counting down the days before I end up having to move on to another game.

Anet advertises gem exchange in the gem store (GASP), made a cheeky advert. OP and friends have developed audaciously sore buttocks as a direct result.

And still there are people trying to defend this in this thread. The economic changes of the last month or so together with this are certainly a step from the good old play to earn to pay to earn. And no this is not a ftp game, many people just bought an expansion and the core game in the past. The massive gold and material sinks everywhere are also a good example in connection with this.

I’ve spent a lot of real money on this game but a lot of the times when I want something in the gemstore I just convert the gold I need and I’m not even rich making only 5-10g a day. I was thinking about how massive and epicly scoped GW1 was earlier today.

Didn’t have a single iota of money grubbing in it, either.

Anet has massively monetized this game, this is SO much worse than it was at gw2 launch.

While I can’t really blame them, it kinda makes me sad to see the clear transition from making an awesome game for gamers, to “how can we milk these walking wallets more effectively”. I feel almost dehumanised by them.

These seem really overpriced to me. Normally, an outfit costs 700 gems. Gliders sold by themselves cost 400 gems. Therefore an outfit + glider should only be around 1100 gems.

Overpriced items make me think that enough people have either left the game and so aren’t around spending money or the people that have stayed are keeping their money, so that overall they’re not making much money with their gem store and need to overinflate the prices to make up for the people that are no longer spending money.

So if I get this right… People are angry they advertised to buy gems to convert to gold?

People are angry, that a business, is trying to make some money, with advertisements…. I can’t be the only one that thinks this is silly.

The Advertisement itself, is just to put the idea into your head, to buy gems. That’s it. No conspiracy or new lows. Just a simple advertisement to say “hey man, don’t forget that buying gems can get you quite a bit of gold”.

Silverwastes! Seriously, not even chest farming, just doing the events gets me that much gold. You can get even more though with chest farming. I would make 100g a day sometimes chest farming. What I do is salvage EVERYTHING, I mean everything that is below 1g. Sell items 1g or more on the TP. After salvaging everything, you’ll end up with valuable mats like silk, linen, ores and other expensive mats. You sell those all.

There are people that spend a lot of hours farming Silverwastes and major events in Dry Top – like 8 to 10 hours per day. Those are the people making 100 gold. And they’re usually pretty cranky too.

Well i don’t like defending anet -hot sucks nerfs suck so so -
but you can def still make gold i had about 1gold or less 4 days later
220 gold and bought a Dreamthistle staff for my druid and all i did was grind mats sold any thing more than 40s or salvaged it then sold the mats granted this is only doable if you have at lest 3-4hrs a day to dedicate to it

They’ve been selling gems to trade for gold since day one. They’ve had a button for it since day one. How observant are you if this is the first time you’ve noticed this? This is really, really, really old news.

I have bought Gems. I have gotten cosmetics from the Gem store. What I have NEVER done in 3 yrs of playing is exchange gems for gold on the other hand neither have I exchanged gold for gems. I just made almost 100g in about 4 days and that’s without trying and no SW this time. Just playing the game.
You guys need a serious time out to go do something else for a few days besides trying to incite a riot (again) over ANet and what ever you imagine is wrong.

If it wouldn’t had been so that I use all my mats for guild hall I would have more gold in GW2 from just playing now than I would have from just playing before. Mats are expensive like crasy. I have been crafting ascended mats since ascended crafting was introduced, now I don’t need Ascended crafting anymore so I sell all ascended stuff I craft each day from just playing and well I earn almost 30-50 gold each day from just that and then I buy Elder wood, Quartz crystalls, Flax and coarse sand for it all. You wanna make money? Sell crafting mats for that money buy cheap Black lion ticket weapons on TP, wait and then sell them, repeat.

Seriously though, this is nothing different than advertising a new item that made it to the store, or advertising a sale. It’s simply letting you know what options exist within the store. So now a company isn’t even allowed to mention their services anymore? please. It’s just ridiculous.

I like how I recently logged in and I had a special green chest (like a normal achievment chest) above my minimap. I go to open it and it’s an ad to buy HoT. “Blah Blah Blach is now open! Travel here now!…..click to buy HoT”. I mean the ad was specifically aimed to make it seem like you had earned something and you could now travel there to get your reward….your real reward is paying $50 for content that has been out for over a month.

50g in 2hrs… either youre talking kitten or youre part of the illuminati cause sw loot got nerfed for days. I usually run around in a chest train for 2hrs and get around 14-20g+ and I have mf% capped. not to mention the nerfs to salvaging, I barely get ectos from rares now.

Honestly, I don’t get it. I have friends who will do the EXACT same stuff as me in SW and still won’t make as much as I do.
Same hours and events and I’ll make 30g while they make just 10g. I really have no explanation. I keep telling my friends to do what I do, but even then they make less.
Also, salvaging nerfed? I’m still getting the same amount of ectos as I used to get. 1-3 ectos for the majority of rares/exotics I salvage.

Were you under the impression that ANET was a gaming charity? Are they not allowed to advertise their service? This is a gross overreaction. So easy for people to be armchair critics when they aren’t the ones trying to run the business. I see no ethical issue with advertising something they’ve had for a long time. It’d be different if you HAD to pay to get gold. However, you don’t.

I make varying amounts of money in SW. It isn’t the exact same every time. I have to say, I’m kind of suspicious of people that name a figure and say they make this exact same amount every 1 hour or 2 hours or whatever no matter what.
