Took the forum posters advice and..
That’s fine. As far as I’m concerned, there is not a war between the games. Some people will like WoW better, some will stick to what GW2 has to offer. Myself, I could never get into WoW (and it’s clones), though I’ve tried several times, even bought a few expansions (in the hope things would get “better”).
Besides, no one is forcing you to choose. You are still welcome to come back to GW2 anytime to sniff the vibe or maybe some new content, and then to go play WoW again
No subs rock ^^
They’re releasing a new dungeon that gets harder and rewards better as you progress as well as a new zone.
Hopefully that update will contain the reworked dungeon rewards they’;ve been talking about, They’ve also been very vocal about making sure players are rewarded for whatever it is they do. This game still isn’t a gear treadmill, but they’re aware of the incentive to play issue.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to play WoW instead of this. They’re different games with different focuses (foci???)
Go back to WoW, hater!1!!1!1!
No seriously, it’s cool bro. This game isn’t for everyone, and I’m always happy to see people say they’re leaving, because it means the community becomes more and more of people that are into the game. Have fun, maybe visit evey now and then.

I do have to say, the forum community has greatly transformed into (for the most part) an informative and positive place months after release. Ty for the reads and replies.

It’s been about a month since I’ve logged into GW2. Yes, I “went back to WoW”. After two years of not playing WoW and trying every new MMO I could get my hands on…Tera, DCUO, DDO, LOTRO, SWTOR,The Secret World and finally GW2….I went back to a game i was completely finished with when I quit years ago.
Yes i know that I’m the common denominator in all of this however, WoW is still the game that keeps me logging in. There are tangible rewards everyday. I’m a mid maxer and I’ve found in that, nothing short of gear grind and raiding can satiate my MMO needs. Evidently people (myself included) dig carrots and sticks.
Just my 2 cents regarding all of the threads referencing having difficulty logging in.
Anet made a beautiful game and 1-80 was a blast. It just seems with PvE and PVP being separate (minus zerg v zerg) both are left shallow after about 30 days of play and having BIS gear 10 minutes after hitting level cap.
While WoW is indeed better than all those games you listed (apart from maybe TSW, which has no fall damage. Neither does DCUO but the crappy controls more than make up for it and make an X-Box controller mandatory for that game, and I don’t play with controllers)
And hey, not everygame was meant for everyone. I like pandas personally, but, I just can’t come to terms with that new talent system. I bailed after watching the Blizzcon video on the rogue talent tree. We got our old talents broken up and handed back to us instead of getting new stuff. And pallies, who have heavy armor, 10 second invincibility, and can heal can now outdamage us =(

This goes to show that not everybody loves the same things in games.
What you describe as the thing that puts you off GW2, is the thing that keeps me in GW2. Gear grind and raiding sounds horrible to me! I simply love the lack of carrots and sticks.
I wish you a lot of fun with WoW again. And remember, because there is no gear grind in GW2, you can always drop in without being at a huge disadvantage!
I am like you I do enjoy raiding and the grind. I havent gone back cause the only other game I played was swtor and it is dead.
Having a new guild helps but I would like to see something and maybe the new dungeon will fill that void.
[Holy Cow! Wall of Text!]
I happen to be enjoying the game quite a bit, though I jump back in TSW every so often, but not for long. I’m still drawn to playing this game, even after hitting 80 and getting my map completion. I really like WvW, and I hate PvP.
WvW is one of those things like Wintergrasp or maybe getting caught in Darkness Falls during a switch in DAoC (or maybe the 30 battlegrounds, that was fun). It’s a PvP that is pretty much gank-less and impersonal and just, well, fun.
Woops, digressing time, got off track!
I’m still enjoying the game, and I was keeping an eye on the carrot/stick thing as I played, mindful that I might get let down at 80, and I wasn’t. Now, I created my 6 piece Exotic set (I’m a tailor) and made an Exotic staff (Artificer), and should make a wand and focus some day. I haven’t bought any pieces I don’t make for myself yet, so still in 80 blues/greens/yellows there, like jewelry, and the twin knives I occasionally play with.
I’m saving a lot of money for my Ranger, because I know there are at least two pieces of T3 cultural I might want to buy.
So there are still things to shoot for, but it does seem to be missing the big things that many of us are used to. It hasn’t impacted my enjoyment dramatically, but I can ‘totally’ see how it does for some.
[Gimme the Abridged Version]
We may find when all this shakes out that it’s a pretty big deal to more people than we like to think and be one of those dirty little secrets for MMOs. We might like to think, collectively, that it’s something we don’t need or want. We might think it’s one of those big barriers we need to get rid of. Maybe in the end that’s one of the things that needs to stay? Or maybe in another form, something in between what we have now and a typical gated and tiered gear grind?
[TLDR]
I don’t know what the final answer will be. It does ‘seem’ like you are right, and that it might end up being a little more important than we give it credit. It might also shake out that there is an answer to that problem that “isn’t” what ArenaNet (or Funcom even, with TSW) did, yet still isn’t what WoW or some of the older games did, rather something new that fits the need?
As I said, thankfully I’m still having a lot of fun, so I’m not too worried about it. But I wanted to give you some support in your topic for being a nice non-hyperbolic, non-hateful and straight forward submission of a concern for discussion. And that on some level, I agree that it might end up being a problem.

well, if I recall correctly, the hate was usually flung against people who liked GW2, not the other way around.
anyway, nice you found what you love. Personally, I will never understand these game wars (or brand wars for that matter) and the emotional investment of people in things they are just partaking in as consumers, not creators. WoW never was my kind of animal, but a game with such a huge name and a steady amount of subscribers in the millions simply must be doing something right. Have fun there

@notebene
It has to be a hard thing to create a game with content that makes players who have the time to play a lot feel rewarded and those who play a little not feel left behind. Typically, most of the issues come from those who can play a lot. When “endgame” is reached (whatever form it may take) That is truly when the community is tested.
Casual players rarely have issues with most MMO’s as by the time they reach “endgame” there is new “endgame” already released and they have loads of content ahead of them.
WoW has the advantage of eight years of content and tenure and every game released being compared to it (fair or not) is hard to stack up against.
In the end, as you’ve said, it’s the players choice. If it holds your interest, great. If not you probably are going through the content faster than expected or the game simply wasn’t designed for that style of play.
@OP – So… why are you here posting? Sounds like you found the game for you. Grats on that.
Enjoy whatever game makes you happy. No regrets or hard feelings.
@Fozzik
The game is still on my desktop. I pop in every now and again to check on changes and forum thread trends. This post was addressing one of them.
