It is NOT humanly possible to get 50+ mastery since HoT got released doing normal content with all boosters and consumables stacked up.
Anyone who says otherwise is lying.
48 Mastery points.
All but 4 of those are from HOT
I met someone with 100+ a week ago and asked him where he farmed for the HoT masteries. He wouldn’t tell because apparently his friends were still farming that spot and he didn’t want people crowding it. So its probably a place like cof p1 but in open world?

I’m seeing an awful lot of LFG requests for “VB spider mastery farm” lately. Perhaps that has something to do with it? Dunno what exactly it is, but if I had to guess, perhaps all the veteran spiders in the treetops near the Jaka Itzel?
42. Farm CoF just enough to go from 2 to 5 in Pact, to get the ohhhh soooo beautiful autoloot. All the rest are from regular gameplay.
Geez. I suck. 6 and 1. Lol.
I have lv 103, its very easy and fast to lv up, there is some ppl who say to enjoy the content like do events in slow mode exp, well depends in each person, i dont focus 100% in lv up.. or i will be like lv 140 now .. raids and legendarys armors are comin soon its normal ppl want to get rid fast the masterys

Aww I was going to put 9 up here to be the lowest.
Maybe anyone under 10 can be in the “I suck” group.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?

Just dont complain in 5 months that there is nothing to do since you rushed masteries.

Ha! My SO has only one, if that many. Only plays on weekends.

That’s funny, I have 83 mastery, 80 of which are Heart of Maguuma.
I am proud to announce, I am the lowest so far, 4 (and a half) mastery point earned the hard way throughout few events and dungeon runs (whole paths) still trying very hard but might aswell just hop to CoF instead, this takes ages

Perhaps, never tried that myself nor am I keen to try it. (I hate VB) Atm I do see people farming DS for the mob spawns instead of the meta event as well.
61 with nothing but a Birthday Booster, but i did break off and farm 4000 Gems during the Halloween event, i was at 50 points when i realized i was loosing a ton of money.
I knew i wasn’t going to get anything int the bags..so i sold them. My favorite Event of the year.

What on earth are you talking about? Sitting at 60 Mastery Ranks right now and I didn’t even USE boosters for most of it. Farming Silverwastes, Cursed Shore, and a little map completion killing all the mobs I found for the bonus XP (while hunting Hero Points for my Tempest) and I had all my core masteries done in three days. That’s 49 Mastery Points right there. Doesn’t take long, the longest one was the Legendary Crafting one which was about 12.1mil XP total for all levels.
After that just doing the Personal Story and 100% map completing Verdant brink, and getting all Hero Points in VB and Auric Basin got me all the EXP I needed for the other 11 Mastery Points I needed.
I think you underestimate the amoutn of EXP you can get from boosters, and heck just playing normally in the new Maguuma maps. The story alone gave Writs of Mastery EXP which was quite a bit by itself. Doing VB Meta T4 Day and Night Cycle at 200% participation is also a tone of EXP for Meta Event Upgrades. I think the final chest contains over 30k EXP and that’s just the chest reward not counting the massive amounts of events that run and all the mobs give EXP.

This is not accurate. If you just randomly wander around you won’t finish it quickly, but with a plan it is absolutely possible. Just killing a random out-of-the-way boar will get you several thousand experience in a few seconds.

Farming Gems? How do you do that? I know, Halloween is over, so it’s probably not possible anymore, but I’m just wondering.

ToT bags sell for a ton of gold. A stack was like 18 gold and they dropped literally by the second (edit: in the labyrinth.)

I stumbled upon this spider farm yesterday. I wondered what the hell people were doing but when I saw the XP coming off the spiders I quickly figured it out.
The key early on would have been to find a quiet spot and farm it like mad before the mobs got killed by other people so much it brought down the bonus XP. As I was running through the Ogre lane a day or so after HoT’s release I realised I was getting about 2k XP + 6k Bonus XP off the Chak there. I had better things to do than spend time farming it up, after getting my first 80 mastery points I don’t see any need to rush more right now. Most of the mobs in HoT now see much lower XP gain because they’ve been killed so much…for some reason these spiders don’t.
I guess the player in question will have found a spot where the mobs have been barely touched by other players and still give good bonus XP. It’s a mechanic a lot of people forget about, but something Colin spoke about at launch. The Bonus XP is there to encourage you to spread out to quieter areas of the game to play so that the whole game continues to feel alive…it’s just up to now no-one has cared about that bonus XP. Mastery points making XP matter again is a very welcome change.

Base experience is never affected by how long something’s been alive, it’s the bonus experience you see below that. Killing some random chak that hasn’t been killed in ages because that area is unpleasant gets you more experience than the spiders. Spiders are just simple to do.

Can you back that up? I admit there’s a good chance I may be remembering wrong, but I’m almost certain that the base XP I received from mobs in the week after launch was higher than what I receive now.
4. Played every day, spent most of my time gliding around Maguuma and wishing that was possible in all the maps

Fluffball, I understand how Bonus XP works.
That attachment does not state beyond doubt that base XP does not change over time.
Why would bonus XP and base XP grow over time, that doesn’t make any sense.
It’s very easy to test though, go to an out of the way location, like Timberline Falls and find two monsters of the same species. Kill one, then kill it again. Kill the other. You’ll see nothing changes except for the bonus XP. You get zero bonus XP and a consistent base XP on the one you killed twice, and a consistent base XP and a huge bonus on the one you killed once. I know because I enjoy farming out of the way mobs.

It doesn’t make sense to me either, but that’s what I thought I observed in the week after launch.
I will certainly be paying more attention over the next week as it’s interesting to note.
I don’t think the base XP would change if you kill the same mob twice on respawn, I would expect if base XP changed at all it would take more than one player killing it a couple of times.
As I said, I may well be wrong, and I’m going on what I thought I noticed.
Even that would be pretty easily testable. Find a monster in the middle of a well traveled road, and then find the same level monster in a very secluded area. There are some little cave nooks in the core maps that no one ever goes into. You know, the ones with vets in dead-end areas with no POIs.

I used to level characters by farming yellow mobs in the 25-60 zones and with all boosters, it is very fast. Nobody ever kills them so the bonus XP is off the charts.
I can confirm that it is totally possible for someone to have reached MAX HOT- Mastery level by yesterday without farming any spiders or the mushroom exploit.
Thats because i’ve had finished them this wednesday and i’ve gotten about 400k -700k XP from spiders only.
I’ve heard about that mushroom-thingy after they fixed it. (So never even tried it)
How? I played no fractals, no tyria-content and (aside of a single Clocktower run) no halloween content at all.
I haven’t slept that much during that period of time – but i had tons of fun. 10/10 would do it again!
ONLY hot…and no pvp whatsoever, with Boosters on 24/7 during my playtime.
Just had to write this because it seems that some people do not realize how much one can actually play if there is nothing to do in RL… (or you decide not to do sth in RL during a certain time-period).
I did a fractal with a 161 guy afew hours ago aparently thats max.

It is entirely possible. I’m at 96…and at 98% of a 12 point investment. My guild master is at 161 through mostly map completion, events, and boosters. To say its not humanly possible is quite funny….it’s like people don’t even try.
Last Thursday I saw someone with 153. I can only assume he’s maxed at this point. Like no joke I didn’t even think it was possible. I was at 6.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I’m only at 14 i think, but i already saw someone much much higher saying in map chat how quickly GW2 got boring again….
I don’t really care about the legendary masteries and the likes, and i take my sweet time levelling and doing events, it’s not like i need to be somewhere right this second either.
Besides, there’s more to life then just Gw2.
I’ve got 9 pts and I’m mastery lvl3. What really kills it for me is when I complete a portion of the story line and then it tells me I have to go grind X mastery level to continue. I don’t really want to go grind out xp so I just log off instead till I feel like playing again. While some folks might view it as motivation to go get the XP to keep progressing the story, for me is a big dis-incentive.
Either way, if you have a normal human life (i. e. job, school, uni etc.) you will have rank 10-40 or something. I am rank 35, and out of my 500 guild I am among the higher ones. Don’t know what some people do with their lives…
