Spirit of Faith [HOPE] – RIP
Touhou style boss aoe
Spirit of Faith [HOPE] – RIP
I don’t think this is the way to approach boss reworks. Perhaps some of them could have AoE patterns (or AoE patterns could be part of the stage in which you fight them), but it should be just that.
I think Giganticus Lupicus from The Ruined City of Arah (explorable) is a very much bullet hell boss well part 2 of his 3 part fight. I think there are a few more but they are mostly get out of the red circles.
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)
Server : FA
I agree there should be more anime girl bosses. That was the point of the video wasn’t it?
I think one of the things that would make boss battles epic would be Touhou-style aoes
If you are unfamiliar with Touhou, see attached:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Nb5Ohbt1SgObviously not as insane, but something similar adapted to the available mechanics would be epic IMO.
There should be several different aoe’s with unique patterns, used in no particular order but with distinguishable charge ups.
Jormag phase 1 has this to some degree, but because of the “safe spot” most people dont notice.
This sounds cool, but WoW tried this sometimes – all you get is a boss with a ‘you must have sub 50ms latency or don’t even bother joining the raid’ check.
Old Tom, in the Asura fractal does this.
A true bullet hell boss would be ripped to shreds by mesmers and guardians
Projectile reflection OP
I wish we had less “MMORPG style” bosses and more “offline game” style bosses. The Frog King at the end of Super Adventure Box was sort of a hint at that. You have to watch certain tells, avoid big AoE things, and exploit a weak point at the right time. Granted, in that environment there was no requirement to attain mastery of the actual game mechanics or profession skills, but in general I’d like to see more stuff like that. Yes, a boss fight should be difficult — but more than that, it should be cool and fun.
To address the “bullet hell” shooter mechanic of the topic — there was a boss in WoW that was modeled after Ikaruga somewhat. The boss would shoot a bunch of black and while projectiles around the room, and you have to imbue yourself with black or white energy to become invincible to one or the other. Of course, it was very basic and watered-down, but they captured the idea.

This!
Right now it feels like the bosses were made with the trinity in mind then they added the dodge system and removed the trinity afterward without reworking the bosses.
Make them more like beat them all bosses, gimmicky and with a big emphasis on dodging.

Also, very few would even bother trying melee. Just switch to ranged, lock on to the boss and plink away with autofire until done. In the end it would simply be a test of player concentration over time, something some of the boss fights already demonstrate via the dodge-or-die attacks and large health pools. Get distracted once and you’re down, maybe even defeated.

It is for me (see sig)

Story Mode, Arah, Boss 2 has this….though it is not coming from all sides like a true touhou game
Omg!
And I wouldn’t mind the occasional dose of that cheesey video game music now and then.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?

That’s one reason I play this game despite complaining so much about it. When I do battle, I’m not listening to Jeremy Soule, I’m listening to ZUN (well, Demetori covering ZUN). The custom soundtrack feature is a sublime idea.

I’ve been meaning to look into that, it was one of the things that drew me to the game. Hmmm, time to go through my music.

Your wish has been granted!
There’s also a boss in Arah Story like it.
Right now it feels like the bosses were made with the trinity in mind then they added the dodge system and removed the trinity afterward without reworking the bosses.
Yeah I agree they removed the trinity but didn’t replace it with anything.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro

They replaced it with groups that can actually go to dungeons.
