Was there ever a stated reason why these were turned into tonics rather than outfits? I’m talking specifically about the default town clothes each race got at launch, not the gem store clothes. I was looking at some screen shots from early in the game and I miss them. I never use the tonic (does anyone?) because it’s a pain and it can’t even be dyed.

This wouldn’t even be much extra work (says the NOT game designer). They have the files already. Just flip a switch in the background to make them an outfit, right? What am I missing here?

It does seem odd and converting them to outfits seems like such an obvious thing to do – would let us use them in combat too. Maybe will be done later.

Yes, there was. You can search (with Google) for the Dev response at the time of the change.

It’s one of the changes that was pretty much shunned by most of the community that cared about town clothes.

It’s been this way for some time now, and unfortunately I don’t see ANet changing the system anytime soon or at all.

Just visit the black lion armor guy in lions arch or divinitys reach etc. and talk to him. He will convert your town clothes etc.
You have to do this with EVERY CHARACTER! That way everything will get converted.
