Can we please get the town clothes moved to wardrobe so we can use them properly and not as a tonic with no combat? I would love to have them part of my wardrobe. They are called common clothes tonic.
Thank you

I’m not particularly knowledgeable about programming or anything like that. But from what I understand, this won’t happen because of the town clothes (which are now tonics) were designed on a different mesh as different category and not anything that can be compared to light, medium or heavy.

It’s currently impossible to mix armours from different meshes/categories.

I’m not sure how similar tonics are to outfits, but I would imagine that the original town clothes (and now tonics) are more similar to outfits than they are weighted armour skins. What I’m trying to say is, it might be possible for A-net to change the tonics into outfits. I believe that some of the town clothes were in fact changed into outfits- pretty sure that the first wintersday and halloween outfits went this way.

Technically, they can easily be added to the wardrobe and no, they were created to be worn by your standard character model.
The issue with town clothes was, if I recall correctly, that they were diverting developement time and maintenance work away from new content to a feature, that was mostly used by roleplayers.
You could mix, match and dye your townclothes, as you would with other equipment.

I think it wouldn’t hurt if town clothes can be remade at some point, but I can’t see them as anything other than light armor at best, if you want to put it into the standard equipment wardrobe, but not being able to use them makes the medium and heavy armor classes sad.

The problem with townclothes is, that they make no sense in a combat environment, but the tonic decision was bad, that the [Tonic Decision] should be made into a legendary tier item.
The players, who spent real money on their townclothes, to give their characters something to wear in their free time, felt cheated , when it was announced, that the town clothes would be converted into tonics.
Tonics are bad, because they count as a transformation, which disables any character skills and lasts 15 minutes. The tonic is extra arkward in that it can’t even be refreshed by drinking it a second time. You have to end the transformation, because that visual effect when you transform does wonders for your immersion and then drink it again, which evokes the mental image of an exotic dancer.

Tonics to Outfits. I did a thread for it: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Suggestion-Tonics-to-Outfits/

They won’t push town clothes to the wardrobe, because of the different light/medium/heavy frames, but we can at least get our kittening dye channels and mobility back.

Can they be “easily added to the wardrobe”. What are the choices?

1) remade into outfits. Most likely possibility but since the original one were modular, able to mix and match, then no matter what outfit they design it’s still not going to be the beloved look from different pieces that people came up with. This choice will require the artists to make a number of complete outfits and these will be for sale in the gem store at the usual outfit prices. They won’t be handing them out for free.

2) make into armor. This would require they make 3 separate pieces of armor (heavy, medium and light) of each townsclothes piece. Because there are differences in the seams in the different armor weights, that means that each armor weight will not look identical. Again, these won’t be for free. if they put them in the gem store you’ll need to buy each one separately. If they put them in game as rewards for doing content, then they might take the place of new armor they could have put in that place. In addition, the time they spend designing these armors and outfits is time they can’t be spending designing brand new armors and outfits.

tl:dr. Everything has a cost and a price and if they are remaking the old town clothes it will be at the expense of new armors and outfits.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

I guess they were never designed to be worn with weapons.
