You still can’t enter Toypocalypse with your party. L:ast year it was a mistake due to changing the games to activities". Whats the excuse this year?

We got the expansion so I’m sure they didn’t have time to fix it. I’m extremely disappointed you still can’t enter with you’re party, but it’s sadly what I expected would happen.

lol. It will always be something as to why we won’t have party back for this. They knew last year we wanted party.

It wasn’t a mistake last year. They told us it had to be that way due to the changes done to pvp, if I recall correctly. Because activities shared coding with pvp (dear gods why Anet?) or some such craziness. And they couldnt revert it ( heavy sigh ) I’m not even going to go attempt to find that post, too much work.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Yeah that was the reason given. It wasn’t a mistake it was intentional. But we did have it party based one year. Never again will we have it that way apparently.

Yup. First year we could party, I remember 3 manning Toypoc with my husband and a guildie (fun kitten, spent hours playing it). Last year we were soooooo bummed that we couldn’t do it again. I still played, but it wasn’t as fun with randoms.

Edit: I remember begging and pleading for them to fix it / find a work around so we could party when this came back around. No dice it seems.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

That is what they said , but it didn’t make sense then and it doesn’t make sense now. Parties are a thing in PvP. Saying that you can’t enter with your party because it is PvP is nonsense. Anyway, this is extremely disappointing that anet continues to treat their veteran players like this while putting in tons of extra development time to pump out a new black lion weapon set and outfit every single week.

I had this thought as well, last year, considering. However it depends on what components of code are common between pvp and activities. It might have something to do with the solo q stuff and it works. Dunno. They didnt really elaborate (and here I was hoping).

At least you can sort of work around it, similarly to how we could work around not being able to party for RA in GW1. If you all click ‘join’ about the same time, some of you should make it into the same instance.

That really doesn’t take anywhere near the same amount of work. Besides, different people for different tasks.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

This is intended. Anet does not want you to play with your friends/guildmates.

Dear Anet,
I will absolutely NOT play Toypocalypse until I can play it with my friends! After all, why would I join a guild/community if not to enjoy the game with them? This really bums me out. =(

Sincerely,
Customer

Tried every trick could think of last night and no luck. This is disappointing since the event can be fun but would be more fun with people in my party versus each of us getting split up into different instances. There were only 3 of us at the time even and at one point one of us got a new instance but still couldn’t join in on them. At least the event should try and keep groups together or spam them a new instance.

That is beyond crazy that they did not fix this since last year, like an entire year to fix it and they didn’t bother, espically after the outcry last year,

Talk about dropping the ball.

Tried to time it, tried to be a group, formed a squad, tried solo joins, tried one in at a time to lock down an instance, tried the Join in PvP from guild tab. All for not. We got lucky once with 2 of 3 people hitting same one but that was out of all the attempts. Just seems like there should be some way for the instance spawning logic to keep a group together. Maybe an alternative is increase the number of player in a single instance and up the NPC enemies.

For all of those still concerned about this (with whom I strongly identify), there is a post from last year in which Anet addressed this issue.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Toypocalypse-and-Parties/

You can read it for yourself, but my understanding of it is that they changed the code intentionally in order to stabilize PvP and other instanced activities. Which to me sounds a lot like saying “We couldn’t find any other way to stabilize the gameplay without disallowing party joins for all of these activities”. So my question is, do they intend to make a workaround for this? Can Toypocalypse perhaps be reworked to act as a dungeon instead? After all, there are plenty of instanced activities which do allow party joining.

It makes sense when you read it again. Activities SHARE coding with pvp. Not “they have the same exact coding as pvp.” Afterall, Activities do have “pvp-lite” in a sense that you can fight other players. Similarities exist for the wintersday activities as well.

To top it off, considering none of the other activities offer a team oriented content, and Toypoc is a yearly occurrence, odds are highly likely that they’ll not worry about “fixing” it any time soon. Especially when you realize they’d need to rework the entirely of activities or Toypoc to get it “working.”

The winter wonderland jumping puzzle is another example of an activity that shares PvP coding. All players in the map appear as enemies, even though your skill bars are all blank. However, often times when the map resets after the scoreboard pops up, for several seconds everything on your skill bar is available and you can actually attack other players, though so far it’s never lasted long enough to do much damage to another player before skills become locked out. It lasts for maybe 5 seconds or less.

There’s something charming about rangers.

Here is a more recent (December 17th) post about partying up and what the problem was.

After the 2013 Toypocalypse there were changes to the game that broke the underlying functionality for Toypocalypse. For 2014 the team was trying to fix the bug (and really, they went up past the absolute last second to try and fix it) but ultimately had to decide between the activity working or being cut – it was that unplayable. It wasn’t a lightly made decision, especially since it had worked the year before and players liked it.

The team would still like to fix it but it isn’t a simple switch or anything. Reverting the change would break significant other parts of the game.

Soo…. I would rather queue with friends too, but I’d also like to be able to do the activity. It’s a rough tossup.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.
