Hi y’all

I’ve been playing more Guild Wars 1 again as of late, and now that I’m getting close to GWAMM and 50/50, I have realised that I actually have enough gold and other resources to get another account up to 30/50, or close.

This made me wonder: do you think it would be possible to trade those resources for GW2 gold? Do you think there are people out there who would be willing to spend their GW2 gold on these 6 titles and 30-ish items? And more importantly, do ArenaNet’s rules allow this kind of cross-game trading?

Viona (Thief); Abbygael (Ranger); Rovaniemi (Mesmer); Laxxne (Guardian);
Zyyghe (Warrior); Mrs Mustard (Engineer); Kharektera (Necromancer); Lee White (Elementalist)

I’m positive that’s against the terms of service.

People used to do this (some might still be trading) but it’s against the ToS. GW1 and GW2 are viewed as separate games for all intents and purposes – it’s viewed the same as trading between GW2/WoW or GW2/Runescape.

Doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be caught but…there’s your answer.

Thanks for the feedback. In that case, I think I’ll just be giving all of this stuff away for free.

While trading for GW2 gold is out of the question, I’m sure you can find a guildie or two who would love to get an easy 30/50 for the skin unlocks in exchange for helping you with some GW2 goals

I don’t see why not.

Technically speaking, there is no cross-game trading. It’s a player/player agreement, and that’s a part of our private life that’s none of Anet’s business.

Instead of a trade, look at it this way:

GW1 player (A) gives other GW1 player (B) stuff for free = not illegal.
GW2 player (B) now gives other GW2 player (A) stuff for free = also not illegal.
Trade complete. There was no trade. Just two people giving items for free.

And regardless of whether it’s legal or not, if you don’t advertise it, no one will ever find out.

How come if you can link the game together ROFL

Wish I could get back to GW1.. PvP-GvG. It feels like we are outcasted, not desired or rewarded..

And that’s absolutely fine as long as you accept complete responsibility for any risk incurred. There’s no guarantee that the person you do the trade with is actually going to send you the money afterwards. And if they choose not to, there’s nothing you can do about it because you’re doing it outside of the services provided in game for trading and you are going against the ToS. If you go crying to anet they’re just as likely to suspend you and do absolutely nothing to the other person (which is fair enough)

If you are talking about RL money, then it’s out of the question. Once something of RL value is involved, or once you start doing “business” kind of transactions, then it’s strictly prohibited. You are probably safe as long as it is just favour for favour exchange between friends – but, as other people pointed out, you’d be on your own here in case something goes wrong. And of course sometimes it would be hard for Anet to differentiate between favour exchange and business.

I’d like to trade runs in GW1 content for runs in GW2 content. Example: I want my character in GW2 to have dungeon master title. I would like a way to help others further their GW1 account, by helping me with my GW2 account.

The economies of each game are separate, and we do not support or condone the trading of items or gold across games.

I’m talking about in game money, not real life money. GW1 and 2 and separate games, there is no system in game that facilitates the trade of an object from one game for money in the other. If you choose to do that kind of trade you’re going against the ToS, and you’re putting yourself at risk. The person you send the items to is under no obligation to send money in return and Arenanet is not going to help you out if you get scammed by them (or you scam them) because you’re going against the ToS and doing something you are specifically not meant to do.

Between friends of course its fine, but you don’t exactly expect to get scammed by a friend so there’s not really a risk factor involved and it’s no different to just exchanging gifts between friends.

Thats the way to go.

Help out others who are just starting the path toward GWAMM or just enjoying the game itself.

Shortly before GW2 launch I gave away the majority of my GW1 wealth stockpile. Since the launch I’ve helped a few people get at least a solid start on earning the HOM skins and the like.
