Does anybody know what the debuff that Maezz puts on you does?

Im legitimately quite panicked and anxious by the fact something that seems to be a permanent account-bound change has been applied to my account, and there is 0 documentation or explanation for what this does.

Also, if anyone does know what this does or influences, please write on the wiki, even if its vague. It’ll save someone in the future the discomfort im having right now, because I have no idea if my account has been permanently corrupted somehow or something by this.

Are you sure it’s permanent, and not hour-long?

Here are what others have posted:

Good luck.

The debuff is only an hour long, but it seems to have permanently altered Maezz’s dialogue, and I don’t know how thats going to effect my account (permanently).

Some people have said its some kind of an easter egg/joke thing in map chat who ive asked, but if so, it seems like a pretty cruel joke.

I’m sure the Devs wouldn’t ‘permanently alter an account’ in any way that would be considered corrupted. I would not worry about it.

I don’t know what it does but I’m absolutely 100% certain Anet would not put an option like this in the game without any info or warning on the effect if it did something horrible.

Look at all the warnings and confirmations you have to go through before you use the Level 80 Boost item. If it was going to do something bad it would either not be permanent or they would make the consequences VERY clear.

It also wouldn’t be the first time they’d created an effect which didn’t actually do anything. Probably the best known example is the Lucky Aura from Lunar Fortunes in GW1. There were a lot of theories but as far as players could tell it didn’t do anything at all.

Finally look at the name. If you don't know the reference:krait are snake like creatures and 'snake oil' is a common term for any type of 'medicine' or cure which is actually a fraud and doesn't do anything at all..

I pray that Anet remains silent on this topic. The answer to this question is hilariously obvious, and I just want to read confused threads like this one for ever.

I blame wiki culture.
