"Trading 2.0"
you shouldnt have poured hype-gasoline into the fire and make it seem like veteran players REALLY have something good to look forward to now.
Point me in the direction of where anything was stated apart from “there are some things that veterans will appreciate” this week? It sounds like you read pretty far into one line and sort of dug your own disappointment…
“mere rework”
If I were the dev who had to rework the entire TP, which they did, I would slap you with a quaggan tail
because lets face it, the name change from “Collections” Tab to “Materials”, is hardly worthy of being called a feature. you changed a single string in a popup menu. that didnt take weeks or months to do. atleast i dont hope so, as an IT guy myself.
So am I. What if they couldn’t find string in code and they didn’t knew for search option? XD
Regardless, I am surprised how game can change without any change o.O
They broke the law of life and money, they change something nobody asked and it wasn’t needed change at all.
Well, Ill be back in 1year to see if there is anything new. Till then ^^
Agreed, Vol. This is a -huge- project and goes directly to concerns expressed since beta, most especially the better category sorting. It looks like there will be a short learning curve to figure out the new interface, after which shopping the TP will be vastly easier.
/awaits the naysayers explaining how this will “ruin the game.”

Actually these threads have had numerous requests for a BLTC change to allow for better filtering. See you in a year and good luck.

not to be sarcastic or anything, I do appreciate the rework, in itself, but when it comes down to it, most of it is mere javascript. That certainly isnt rocket science.
Ultra dissapointed. TP is perfect as it is for me. Nothing is unclear about it. Honestly the new UI is more complex, and it will slow down certain things i’m doing ultra fast now. The pickup box is a step back (very unclear, and harder to reach list of what you are getting). No no no. Bad call. Putting all these resources on this? No thanks
If feature patch 3,0 has similar update (UI change, QoL for veterans not improved, only for new players), then i’m gonna be really really really dissapointed. This ‘change to the UI’ just for the sake of changing them and feeling good has to stop.

Thank you. Atleast not everyone seems to jump my throat for my own, reasonable opinion on the matter.
Personally, I dont like the “lets put more tabs, in tabs of more tabs” mentality. I am looking at you, hero panel.
this could have been the perfect chance to finally release the API v2, along with the trading post api and all the other goodies coming along with it.
sadly, its pretty much just a mere rework of the trading post, and thats it.
perhaps, after people were disappointed with the first 2 weeks of slowly creeping, mediocre blog posts, you shouldnt have poured hype-gasoline into the fire and make it seem like veteran players REALLY have something good to look forward to now.
personally, the whole minipet and collection thing is nice and all, because i am a collector, so yes, that does speak to me.
still, alot of people arent into it, and for them, the veterans (your choice of words not mine) there isnt really anything in this. I am well aware its not a content patch and “just” a feature patch. however, it hardly introduces anything worthy of being called a feature, as most of it are just slight modifications to the existing things we have, so it might aswell be named QoL Patch instead.
because lets face it, the name change from “Collections” Tab to “Materials”, is hardly worthy of being called a feature. you changed a single string in a popup menu. that didnt take weeks or months to do. atleast i dont hope so, as an IT guy myself.
I just really hope you wont need another break once this rolls out, because the last few weeks have been dreadful enough already, and as someone who has played since launch, my hopes in you are slowly starting to crumble.
Trying to attract more new players is good and all, but its kinda counterproductive if you leave your loyal players who stuck with you from the start out to starve for the most part.
Living Story is nice and all, but it simply doesnt deliver what most people want. No Dungeons, no Nothing, just Story.
And please, for the love of the five gods(leaving kormir out for being a dirty leacher), the spirits of the wild and <insert_other_deity_here>, stop calling me Boss.
If i was your boss, i would have fired that smudge face Norn ages ago.thank you, nonetheless.
Wow… someone needs a hug… or a vacation to blow off steam.
I speak for myself, I really wanted the trading post to change, and Im extremely happy about this. And no, it is not easy to pull this off, we need to at least think about how developers feel when we as players just slap all their intents to making players happy and just criticize their efforts all the time.
sadly, its pretty much just a mere rework of the trading post, and thats it.
The only sad things are responses that cast developers who put a lot of time and effort into making features more user friendly in the light that they’ve done nothing.

I am not being negative, I am just being realistic here. I am a developer myself. Sorry to break it to you, but since the trading post is web based, most of what you see in there is mostly controlled with javascript and a few HTML Requests here and there. it really isnt that hard to do as you think it is.
I appreciate it. never said I dont. Its just not what i see fitting for 3 weeks of dragged out hype train.
I am speaking for myself, not for the community or anyone else. Just for myself.
Two threads in this forum about trading 2.0 and both are pretty negative. To add something positive: This seems to be exactly what I hoped yesterday when I saw “Trading 2.0”. A better BLTC.!!!!
The second to last header of the blog post says: Better Technology for a Faster Trading Post. A Faster Trading Post I made it bold so anyone who did miss it the first two times cannot miss it the third time. The single most annoying aspect of the current trading post is that it opens slowly and sometimes does not open at all. So making it faster is a very important change.
And yes, this should have been in the game when the game launched. And yes it took them two years to make this change. They admit in the blog that the current BLTC isn’t the best product they made. They also admit in the blog that they had a very small team to develop BLTC v1. We veterans complained about that. And ArenaNet did something about it. Too late? I don’t think so.
The complains about the small insufficient changes we will get in these feature patch can be found everywhere (on this forum, on reddit). I disagree. I think ArenaNet announced some fine QoL changes and some nice features. I don’t like anything what they announced. But I like a a better, faster TP. Better MegaServers. I see some interesting changes to collectables and miniatures. The Commander tag change is small but convenient for me. I look forward to next Tuesday.

As a developer, you should know that assuming a system is simple from the UI and platform alone is silly.
They swapped out the core browser engine and then built the newer TP on top of it.
This, combined with conscientious decision to rebuild the actual post with performance in mind, is much more extensive a task than “javascript and a few HTML requests here and there.”
Then you have testing, reworks, bug fixes. since they built on a new core there were probably modules of their old coding that didn’t work as is.
Take this for instance:
" We were able to gain huge performance improvements by updating the game client so that the embedded browser could access things the game already knows about. There’s no reason we should have to download an icon for an in-game item from the Trading Post servers; it’s already in the game files."
We have no knowledge about how modular this system was initially. Making a change could be easy if the system initially took the fact that the location of these images might change to a local request in the future. If it didn’t, making it so becomes an incredibly tedious project.
If they used portions of their original system at all.
You cannot trivialize that. It could easily take as long as it did. Assuming otherwise would be unrealistic.

it is not BUILT on a new core. it is still a mere web page. please, by all means, dont talk like you are the guru of web development if you honestsly believe the webpage itself is built differently simply because its running on a different embedded browser.
I am at a loss to see how anyone can be negative about this TP update. It is everything I have wanted to change since release, I despise the current one gahhh!
So to Anet: Looks awesome, took too long IMO, but better late than never!

Because a webpage will work hassle free on any layout engine without rebuilding.
And magically become faster simply by changing layout engines.
Okay. You win.

As long as the changes include being able to search for armor of a certain type, say, just the cloth items, and other like sifting, I’ll be happy. Probably.
I don’t see anything wrong with the new rework of the gem store, looks really well done to me.

The part i dont get at all is the attribute search. clearly, i have memorized all attribute values for everything from a level 5 blue to a level 80 exotic. would make more sense to be able to put in range, at the very least.

One of the filters looks like it will allow you to search for useable items by profession. This is even better since it would apply to weapons as well.
As an avid reader of the forums and never posted before, I must +1 the OP.

Not all players have all of the attribute sets memorized. Trinkets have different attribute set prefixes than other gear. And when you go into unique-named exotics or karma-recipe gear (eg, the Bloodsaw set, or the Devout set which has different attributes on each piece), it’s even less clear which attributes you’d get from a particular piece of gear. I know that the dagger Usoku’s Needle has Berserker stats, but someone buying a level 80 exotic dagger for the first time might not.
Also, if they extend the stat filters to food, that would be hugely useful. Aside from a few foods that I use regularly, I for the most part do NOT have these memorized such that I can just plug in the name of a food I need all the time.

-facepalm- it was sarcasm, sir, or ma’am. pure, and simple, sarcasm. I cant believe you took me serious. :|
The new trading post has the ability to allow me to filter for armor that my character can use. That alone is enough to make it a win. Add that to the collections thing which is a response to the “nothing to pursue” crowd, and I can see this being a win with a lot of players.

dont worry about it. i just assumed the sarcasm should have been obvious enough. :P
@ faster trading post: Honestly it’s nice but i don’t need it. Most of time it’s instant. And the time it isn’t instant, there is a server issue. Server issues will still delay future Tp I think. If that’s case, barely improvement for me.

Bwahahaha!
Tbh though, not having to visit a rep to pick up your stuff is awesome for starters – secondly, if that optimization rolls out smoothly it’ll be so much faster if the Trading Post utilizes in-game files.
Overhyped or not, this is a really good update.

Hate to burst your bubble but it seems like what they were saying is that you can see the pickup box no matter which tab of the TP you’re using. It really doesn’t seem to say that the manner in which you get items from the TP has changed.

Oh…that does seems possible. Guess I sort of hoped for something as wonderful and beautiful as picking it up from anywhere.
On the other hand, at least it will still navigate faster.

That’s simply an ad for ANet’s official gold selling service and all it does is open up the Gem exchange on the selling gem side. Since buying gold for cash is a two step process, it’s not as obvious as a direct cash for gold.
The upside is if more players buy gold from the exchange, the exchange rate will go down.

Ahh yes… ignorance at its finest.
This was a HUGE overhaul and one of the MOST requested features since launch. I would say this rivals precursor crafting in its number of requests.
I sense the Awesomium webkit wasn’t up to snuff. But the unanswered question I have is does the UI scaling work now on the TP or will we still get barely readable on small and fugly on big scaling?
