Overall I’m not sure about the new traits system. I’m withholding judgement until I try it, but I have some concerns:

— open-world PVE for levels 10+ is presumably balanced with the assumption that characters have traits. There’ll be a noticeable power difference between a level 29 character with 19 trait points now, and a level 29 character with 0 trait points in the near future. Is there any sort of adjustment for this?

— leveling is somewhat stepped now as far as power goes, but it will be even more so in the future. A 50-point jump in stats and a new trait every 6 levels, as opposed to 10-point increases in stats each level. There might be a bigger difference between level 35 and 36 than there is between level 30 and 35. Seems like that’s going to have some odd effects.

— some trait choices while leveling are taken for quality of life: run speed in particular. That 25% run speed increase I was hoping to see at 20 will now have to wait for level 36. I know some weapons, signets etc. offer run speed boosts, but I’ve always felt that travel speed is a bit of a sore point in this game compared to some others, and that choosing one weapon over another just because it has a run speed boost is kind of galling.

— pushing sigils later in a character’s career means they’ll be less interesting and more cookie-cutter for longer, and is again a kind of a test of patience.

This would just require a better understanding of your profession’s skills. Events out there are not hard, especially in lower areas, even for a newbie. Plus, you get most of the exp by exploring, aka wps, pois and hearts, which don’t require any skill at all in 99% of the cases.

I can tell that the only problems about this new system are about the sense of progression and new that a player may feel toward his character, but this could become frustrating in an old style MMORPG. But you level quickly in GW2, even if it’s your first time.

And the lack of utility traits such as the speed boost, but since not all the professions have a speed increase trait or such (Guardians rely on skills for this), that’s not a problem.

I have to agree with Syrpharon…….one levels pretty quickly for any of this to be much more than a minor annoyance. Unless you have absolutely 0 patience, then I could see how what the OP said might bother a player.

I think most of the changes coming down the pipe look fairly interesting. Of course, I have a few concerns(mostly of the bug nature)…..but guess we will see what the patch is like when it gets here.

Well, I think that if you have 0 patience, you won’t probably choose this gendre, but something more action oriented. And new players usually don’t feel the urge to skip the entire game.

To levle alts, you can simply use your main and swap on dungeon completion.

I totally agree with you buddy. As a 2 weeks new player, I feel like sharing my impressions and complainin a bit.
Playin a currently 52 memser, my favourite thing of the game, one of the emersion points of all the good thoughts that support it, was the ability to access and experiment trait builds in the first phases of the game, allowing the player to enjoy gameplay and role variety and competing with endgame players with the first synergies you can start to build up.
Hitting lvl 40 milestone was exciting, and the system tributed some importance to each level you gain.
Now just let me express how gratefull I am, as on 15th I am not only going to loose few traits but,, most of all, see the access to grandmaster traits (essentials to exploit mesmer as, i presume, to any other class) bounced back to endgaming, having to wait much more for my longed glamour build.
I am really curious, devs, what’s the point of this? Honestly, that thing bout noobs waisting points didn’t even get close to persuade me…
