I ask the community

Do you like the current Trait system for customization, or would you like something new and different kind of advancement system?

Usually such big changes like this happen in expansions in WoW. So I know its a successful practice. But was wondering how you all feel about such changes here in GW2.

I honestly not a big fan of the current trait system. It sound cool on paper when first was told about the system, but didnt know it would be the only method other than stats from gear to customize other than skillbar of course.

Its very limited, and the passives are very boring sometimes. Also many of the options in traits are dull and not interesting.

I bet most of the players already find the trait system too complicated, we should remove it, just to make sure this game s even more easier, no need to replace the current system with something more complicated that would require you to think more.

Not exactly new, but different - http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree

Quite honestly, I miss the brainwork involved in crafting a Diablo II/PoE’s character build, or GW1’s 4v4/8v8 team composition.

I would have preferred a spend your points wherever you want system with no restrictions other than a total amount of points to spend.

Often, with the present system you may want a trait but not the stats or vice versa…

For example recently built a glyth ele but I am forced to have 20 points of precsion to get the glyth traits, when I really want 20 power…

The current trait system cuts down on build diversity…hugely…can’t understand why developers constantly restrict build diversity…instead of it being completely open ended and allowing players to have what they want…

In a word: Balance.

But the one thing about MMOs is they are almost impossible to balance, this is why they restrict choices. I am all for an open skill based MMO. But such a system would cause some players to be more powerful than others, then the weak complain….

Balance isn’t a issue, because anyone in a open ended system could have the stats they wanted and the skills they wanted with in a overall total, so its equal across all classes…

Also, the current trait system is overly complicated, very, very prone to bugs (the chances are at least one or more trait you are using is bugged, your just unaware) and a lot of the times traits are all over the place and make no sense whatsoever as to why they were put where they are…

I would have preferred the first iteration of the trait system that Anet started to reveal before the game went into the beta weekends. Each weapon set had its own set of traits to choose from that didn’t conflict with the traits of any other weapon set. There were also two passive lines for each class that had traits for utility skills. This was also back when you were given attribute points to distribute freely on level-up.

This was an interesting and promising system for customizing your character. It wasn’t perfect by any means, but if Anet had continued iterating with that basic assumption, it could have turned into something great.

Instead we now have very limited talent lines (not even trees) with a jumble of traits divided by tiers in an illogical manner. Too many traits are clearly better than others, many weapon sets are not supported well by traits, and most classes have very few viable builds.

I think the system itself is well organized. But the Traits are just a bit too unbalanced. There are often situations, when 90% of the Traits are just not good enough to be taken, so that only one Trait actually is played.

The constant change of talent tree in World of Warcraft was really annoying, and the ‘’talent tree’’ they use in Mists of Pandaria felt horrible, in my opinion. I did not like it at all because everything felt so no-brainer.

I like the trait system in Guild Wars 2, they just need to make more traits more appealing.

I like the trait system. At first I saw it as very limited, but that was because I didn’t yet understand it. Now I see it for what it is: a way to design & define you character’s playstyle. It’s not overly simple, it requires thought & planning, and allows for skill synergy. I think a number of the traits need to be reworked or consolidated or moved, nothing is perfect, but the overall system that Anet has implemented is unique and effective in my opinion.

When they eventually add more traits and more skills the problem should fix itself.

I really hope anet are planning on adding more traits and skills.

This. Futzing around with those systems can kill a game. I like the way it is, it just needs some tweaking.

Traits system is completely boring. I like having lots of options.

Add to this the inequality in traits between classes that are supposed to be the same kind of class and you have a bigger problem.

Engineers have been suffering from not being a true adventurer class save for the leather armor for quite some time now. Burst damage builds in PVE are a complete joke, nothing new yes but they’ve ignored it since Nov.

When I see another engineer in PVE I am completely shocked because it’s a bit like finding a fellow albino in the wild.
