From the march 20 news traits unleashed:

“One fundamental change to the way traits function is that you won’t be required to visit a profession trainer and purchase a training manual to access the adept, master, and grandmaster trait tiers!”

Will each of our existing level 80 characters get a 3 gold, 10 Silver refund for purchasing these books for the last year and half?

Don’t be silly. They aren’t going to give us Altaholics back any money. What next? someone that kept an accounting of every time they re-traited asking for that currency back as well?

When the game started, the cost of purchasing the books was a real barrier. While it may be hard to believe now, I has to save up for each manual. Of course, at that time T6 mats were selling for 2 silver.

Everything has inflated but the price remained the same. Now you can buy the most expensive book at 30 minutes in dungeons.

I wouldn’t expect a refund.

I’m purely stating it on principle and I know no refund is likely. Just highlighting that they are going to be giving away something for free that we all paid for on previous characters. I certainly don’t need the money, your point about dungeons is definitely true.

In compensation for the money spent in manuals, we have all our traits unlocked. Those new chars that won’t require manuals will need to unlock them either exploring or via trainer.

All in all, I think it is a good compromise.

As much as I would also like to see refunds for books, I know it’s neeeever going to happen. It’s a nice dream though. I’m not upset by it, nor am I upset that I won’t recoup the bit I’ve spent to retrait here or there. Its just how things go.

I would welcome the 25g+ or so I would be owed, but I don’t expect them to do that, because honestly, they don’t have to. If they chose to, that would be them being extra kind.

New characters will still have to earn their traits, either thru the associated challenges or purchased with some silver. Either way, it’s a trade-off.

While I’m happy all of my characters are already made (I would NOT want to wait till 30 to get traits) part of me is sad I won’t get the satisfaction of earning the traits the new way.
