Hey ANet & GW2 players,

I used to love Guild Wars 2 and played it for hundreds of hours until eventually, I drifted away but with plans to return in the future. I was fully aware while I played that Server Transfers costed money in order to combat WvW abusal. However, recently I have been hoping on coming back to the game and playing with friends, but I am on a different server to them, and I really don’t want to pay the pretty substantial amount of money to transfer to their server just to let me WvW with them (because I can still do guesting).

Shouldn’t there be some sort of.. 6-month or 1 year transfer token distribution in favour of returning players? I can’t be the only person who has had this kind of thing happen, as returning to the game with intent of changing servers is, I expect, a relatively common occurence.

Thanks!

P.S. I should mention I know about the deletion of all characters resetting free transferability, but I have a max level char and a level 38 on there…

They have in the past given free or reduced costs to transfer to lower tier servers, usually before a WvW tournament. Possibly they will do it again and you will qualify.

Are you even serious? Friends of mine deleted 5+ fully geared 80s to transfer for free and I’m completely sure there are players out there who deleted 10s of them. If you have only a single lvl 80 char, there is absolutely nothing to hesitate about, you can get another one in like an hour or two.
Unless you have something extremely valuable bound to a character (dunno what could that be) that you would lose by deleting it, there is nothing you should worry about. As I said, you can get a new 80 in a few hours, or possibly in a few days if you don’t wanna craft-rush it but play casually instead.

Okay, but doesn’t it seem kind of counter-intuitive for the game to require players to delete characters they have invested time in just to transfer to a server with their friends?

And a level 80 in 1-2 hours? This is new to me, unless the game has changed…

He’s either referring to leveling by crafting, which can take a lot of gold because they nerfed the 1-400 crafting from 10 to 7 levels each and to go to 400-500 on the others can be extremely expensive as you need to discover and craft exotics (and I assume you have no ascended mats to refine so you will not get the exp for doing that) or he is referring to leveling with tomes, which I assume you don’t have. (You would also need the required mats to craft to level. Not cheap to buy if you don’t already have them).

well either that, or you can pay gems. Even transfers to the most expensive servers, are they not only around 300G? Because I imagine that your friends want to play with you too, you all could pool that together

Though these are completely valid solutions that appear to be the norm, they’re incredibly expensive and it still seems strange to me that a more player-friendly system hasn’t been implemented, at least so for inactive players who want to return. I don’t have that much ingame currency as I wasn’t a /rich/ level 80 so to speak.

If you are willing to do PvP, it’s easy to get the tomes that give you a level for each one. Just by doing my minimal dailies, I get one a day. I don’t know how many tomes a day a regular PvPer gets but I bet you could get the needed number pretty quick.

If you don’t want to do that, you can try EOTM. It’s part of WvW (sort of) and from what I’ve heard, leveling is extremely fast. You could delete and level to 80 again with that while getting badges of honor and loot.

Something to read: http://www.tentonhammer.com/guides/basics/how-get-level-80-fast

In a word: No. I mean, I do understand your predicament, but returning players shouldn’t be given a free transfer just for returning.

You don’t even have to guest anymore. All the servers are merged for pve. Just party up. If happen to get on a different instance just click there portrat and choose joins map.

The original poster wants to wvw with his friends.

And @OP – I also returned recently. I can’t tell you how many times I have scrounged up the gold to transfer servers simply to play with friends in wvw. While yes it is annoying, I do believe its a good system. It encourages server wvw loyalty and makes it more expensive for spies. I don’t believe anyone should be given a free ride to transfer servers….especially to the top tier ones. If a player wants to be on a particular server bad enough he or she will be willing to work for it.

To survive this world you must be mad as a hatter. Luckily for me, I am positively insane.

This OP is pretty funny. Why would you cater a few people who returned to the game over people who have been consistently playing this game since release, It just doesnt make any sense. People jump games thats a fact, but returning to gw2 and hoping for a free server transfers so they can play with their friends and hoping that this faction of a population finally decides to stay and play gw2 instead of jumping to other bandwagon games, totally pointless. If you want to play with your friends decide to stay and play gw2 ask your friends help to help fund your transfer, or delete that 1 80 character, i ahve deleted 5 80s no biggy.

Don’t delete the characters. Ttrait unlocking for new characters is horrible and hasn’t been fixed yet.

If WvW with friends is worth $25/300G, then save up for it. Regular dungeon running will get that in a few weeks. If you just want to play with friends, all of PvE can be played just by partying up. The only PvE limitations now are NA vs EU.
