Transmutation Charges Q
I can’t confirm on that, though if I remember correctly any crystals and stones you have will convert into charges, three stones to one charge, and a one for one on crystals to charges.
The simple solution here, if you do get a charge for mapping a town, is buy an extra character slot, and keep it open to make a Sylvari or Charr, as they are the two easiest cities to get map completion on, and farm up some easy charges.
You will get one Charge for City map completion, and may receive a Charge from other rewards, like Zone Completion, Daily Achievement, Monthly Achievement, etc.

Curtis Johnson: Transmutation charges can be earned as part of map completes and will occasionally be included in other rewards. Gold can also be exchanged for gems to purchase anything in the store.
The Devs confirmed Charges for City map completion in the Twitch Livestream about the upcoming patch.

But it “seems” that in the above post Curtis Johnson says: “earned as part of map completes” doesn’t that mean area maps as well as towns?
So far as I can see, yes. The “might” is that you could also get BLC Keys. Or possibly some other goodies from the shop.
>.< i have 8 chars (5 of them 100% exploration) 2 above 60% and the last one less than 10% of the map…anyway a couple months ago i had 2 stacks and half of those Transmutation Stone but since all my chars were already all level 80…and I already had 1 of each profession I thought “WHY?! Why should I save this if i can’t use them anymore?Not even in forge to convert them into crystal…so…destroy them!” …now they can be conveted into the new charges >.< awesome!! xD
