Just wanted to express my appreciation at being able to keep the look of a certain set of armor, weapons or what have you indefinitely while still being able to level them up as the game goes on. It may seem not seem like a big deal, but it’s a really nice feature, particularly when some higher-level stuff just don’t look as good (though admittedly, my character is currently only in the level 40’s range, so I can’t yet speak to how the very high-level items look like)!

Are there others here who also very much appreciate having Transmutation Stones (or in broader terms, this type of feature in general)? Is this a common feature among MMO’s nowadays or is GW2 still one of the few that has it?

While I do love that I can keep the look that I want I do wish we could have a option to transmute the stones into crystals. I only play one character and currently have a small stockpile forming of the stones which I’ve got no use for. Even a 25 stone – to 1 crystal I’d welcome as I’ve got no use for them and no plans on playing any of my alts I made for quite awhile.

I’m sort of in the same boat, though I’ve recently learned that keeping extra stones on hand is oftentimes handy.

I’m sorry to say but this way is from my experiences an rather inconvenient way. It still binds one certain skin to some certain stats. If you have more than one skin you would like to use you either have to get another set with fitting stats (and to transmute it) or to use the old item as it is. Or the other way round if you have different sets with different stats you have to get the same skin several times. There are some games with wardrobe systems which lay the skins over your armor which work way better imo.

But yes it’s a nice to have.

Not only do other MMOs have similar features, they have better versions of the feature, and have had such for years before GW2 even came out. Sadly, GW2 is way behind times here. LotRO and Rift, among others, have appearance customization features that blow GW2’s out of the water. I love the idea of a feature like this, and used it a lot when I played other games, but compared to the competition, the GW2 approach is clunky and not very player friendly. So while I appreciate the fact that we have T-stones in the game at all, I think they could be a lot better than they are now.

Edit: Ninja’d.

EQ2 had slots that allowed you to wear appearance pieces of armor over your fighting armor. All classes could wear any other classes armor as long as it was less than their current armor.

Was a good system for plate wearers who could mix/match stuff made of plate, chain & cloth. Chain wearers could mix/match chain & cloth. Not so good for clothies, however.

Are clothies in-game characters who prefer to wear town clothes?

Um. Pretty much every other game doesn’t charge you for the same basic function they charge gems for. It’s called wardrobe in LotRO, and many other games have it.

So no, I don’t really care for Trans stones. But they are a necessary evil if you want you character to look decent in this game.
